It is tough to move a guy who failed as a top 6 forward and is playing in Europe for a legit top 6 forward. Who would you see as a fit from Winnipeg? Roslovic? Gustafsson? Vesalainen? Not sure Winnipeg makes any of those moves without Edmonton adding.
I did not say that he wants a top-six forward in return for Puljujarvi. Consider the bigger picture for the Oilers.
1. Trading Puljujarvi has no impact on Edmonton's current salary figures.
2. The Oilers do not have enough cap space to accommodate a top-six player.
3. Kris Russell is the only roster player Edmonton may be able to shed without creating another major gap in its roster (and that's only if Larsson is the only defender who suffers an injury this season)
4. Kris Russell is a serviceable depth defender, but he is being paid $4M/yr. for this season and next... Not an attractive trade piece.
5. If Neal continues to find success with the Oilers, Edmonton may have to relinquish its 2020 3rd-round draft pick to Calgary... restricted options for sweetening a deal.
My guess is that Holland is looking for a youngish middle-six forward capable of producing roughly 15 goals/season and under contract for at least another 2-3 seasons, an RFA, or playing under an ELC. A big-framed, tenacious, 2-way player, with lots of speed, and a willingness to shoot the puck often would be his ideal return.
