Description
I don't like the idea of Ceci on the top pair but we are talking about a coach who played Hainsey with Rielly for 2 seasons.

After reading the title, I definitely thought this was going the route of signing Marleau to a 1 year deal and playing him in the top 6. Now that he's not signing for SJS.

I heard Dubas throws up whenever someone says Marleau is coming back to TO.

Clearly, the Leafs will have to use the sum of its parts (and depth) in order to get a 4th line together). I think in Babcock's world, you switch the #1 and #3 left winger. Also, I don't think Spezza has a full 82 game season left in him, whether that means some time on the LTIR or just in the press box. I think Pierre Engvall will get a serious look on the 4th line. He played center with the Marlies most of last season. He is a big body guy that can play physical, defend, kill penalties and skates better than you'd think a 6'5 player could. I don't mind a combination of Shore, Agostini and Wilson on the 4th line, but I think Moore will get a serious look in the top 9. As for D, I don't think Liljegren is as ready as Sandin, and I don't think the Leafs rush either to fill voids. Maybe you pair Dermott and Liljegren by season's end, but I don't think either prospect gets a serious look before December.

Liljegren has so many more tools than the other guys vying for the bottom pair. I would not at all be surprised if he passes Ceci quite quickly. He vastly improved his defensive play last season which is something you want to see from a young player prior to making the jump to the bigs. Most people think Sandin is closer because he scores more points but he's not as ready as Liljegren, mainly because he still hasn't played top minutes for a long stretch for the Marlies. This year I think Sandin will be the #1 guy on the farm for the whole season and next year make the team out of training camp. Liljegren will either do the same or he'll make the squad this year.

As for the stuff about the 4th line and left wingers and stuff. Most of it doesn't matter at all. I put Shore in the lineup because he can kill penalties and win faceoffs which will help on the PK. Spezza may take some faceoffs on the PK as well but Spezza is going to be a guy who barely gets 5v5 time but will get a lot of special team time on the PK and 2nd PP unit. That'll go a long way to keeping him fresh. I don't think he'll be a game breaker but he's a vet who's battled for a cup, he has a lot of experience that will help in the dressing room and it costs nothing to have him around since he makes the league min.
