Description
Who knows what GM Paul Fenton has up his sleeve this offseason, but this is what I think this team could look like next season, realistically. Trades with EDM, TOR, and LA.

LAK
  1. Pateryn, Greg
Détails additionnels:
The Wild tried to trade Pateryn in the middle of the 2018-2019 season. They will revisit that in the offseason and the Kings will pick up a steady, right shot defenseman without giving up a pick this year.

MIN
  1. Yamamoto, Kailer
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2020 (EDM)
Détails additionnels:
Yamamoto is more of a goal scorer than Puljujaarvi and I don’t believe Edmonton will part with Jesse this offseason. Young, speedy goal scoring is a priority for the Wild this offseason. This is another move to make the Wild even younger.
EDM
  1. Zucker, Jason
Détails additionnels:
Oilers get a winger that can keep up with McDavid and put the puck in the net. If the Oilers can make another move for a guy like Phil Kessel, suddenly things don’t look as bad for Edmonton. Zucker, McDavid, Kessel. That would be a solid top line.

MIN
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi [Droits de RFA]
  2. Räsänen, Eemeli [Liste de réserve]
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2020 (TOR)
Détails additionnels:
The Wild hit a homerun here after Spurgeon’s fantastic 2018-2019 season.
TOR
  1. Spurgeon, Jared
Détails additionnels:
Leafs get their right-handed defenseman to play with Morgan Rielly for the long-term future as Spurgeon re-signs with the Leafs.

Myers will get more with the lack of rhd in ufa, you are cutting his pay.

Toronto declines for cap reasons and from an asset management standpoint. Would we not be better off signing Myers for less keeping our futures and signing Spurgeon in the offseason?

But Spurgeon is much better than Myers, if you need quality, it is not better, and if just to sign a free player, then okay, Myers really overrated.

Just illustrating a point. I wouldn’t want to sign Myers.

While I agree that Myers may get more than that a year due to lack of quality right-shot defensemen in UFA, that is the highest number I would offer a year to Myers if I were a GM.

With regards to the Spurgeon trade, GM Paul Fenton needs to hit a homerun on this trade. Spurgeon is by far his most valuable asset available for trade and he isn’t going to trade him for any less than what he’s worth. 31 teams in the league are looking for players like Spurgeon. It’s pretty clear how desperate Toronto is to find a quality partner for Morgan Rielly. And with their cap situation going forward and unless they can move a contract like Zaitsev or Marleau, they might be forced into making a move like this even if it might hurt them down the road. But Toronto’s window to win is right now and this move helps them immediately.

Toronto’s window to win is the next 10 years. I would love to have spurgeon but the cap hit is an issue. If you retain 50% the deal is atleast plausible. Your trade adds atleast 2m in cap. So I don’t see how the leafs are forced to make a move like this for cap reasons.
