the most i could see MTL retaining is the 1.08m we'd have to pay to buy him out .
that being said i think it will take a 3 way trade to ditch Alzner with another team willing to retain like VGK did with Brassard.

but honestly given NJD cap situation i doubt they care about cap and are just happy Alzner has most of his salary paid out.

I did $1,625,000 since it made it an even $3 millions, and MTL would be paying more per year but it would only be for 3 years instead of the 6 if they just buy him out. However the Devils do have a fair amount of cap space so they could probably live with anything retained over $1 million.
