Also, Leafs don't have to trade Horton since he is on LTIR. They would never give up a first to move out money

But, he then goes back to SJ, or he hangs them up after being dealt to Ottawa... the game has passed him by and he gets his $ on July 1st

I understand the thought process here. Unfortunately, SJ has little to no cap space for this kind of move. Sure, Marleau would waive to go back to SJ but I think that ship has sailed and he will retire a TML. If that trade were to go down, I'd rather offer Harpur over Lajoie. Lajoie is younger and has a higher upside.

I think the goal is to sign Ceci and have him play a reduced role with Wolanin as his partner. They've both shown improvement and chemistry in the latter part of this season. I think EDM passes though. Sure they rid themselves of some cap space by getting rid of Gagner but it's only for one more year. Sending Ceci doesn't really help their cause either when qualifying him will cost just shy of 5 million.

I like the idea of trying to sign Fox but Ottawa is a rebuilding team and have struck gold on multiple occasions with later round selections. I think they'd hold onto those picks and attempt at drafting something out of them. Could be a good risk though! Ottawa is really going all in on the college prospects route.

I also like that deal for JG Pageau. I also would like Ottawa to keep him. His defensive game is strong and can play up and down the lineup. I think he is getting phased out with the amount centres Ottawa has coming in the next couple of years.

The owner and gm of this team are too dumb to make it a good team. They arent capable of it period.
