TOR_MIN trade as seen around here today

I really don't want to trade Kadri for a guy for one year. But I guess it's worth it to get him on retention and get out from zaitsev.

Yeah, in 20/21 you would hope you'd be able to retain Spurgeon and Muzzin for a few more years, and bridge Dermott. Between Marleau going, and the continuing cap increase I would think it would be very possible.

If a trade like this frees up enough cap space to get Marner locked up at $11m + for 8 years...and get Johnsson/Kapanen locked up for 2-3 years (which it does) ...it would give the leafs enough cap space to try and make a bigger splash on D via free agency...either resigning Spurgeon if he looks good or Pietrangelo if he makes it to free agency.

I don't think there's anyone in Leaf land that would want to see Kadri go...but it's tough to ignore the potential upside.

Yeah, the Leafs would have a 4 year window (in this scenario) of minimal cap complications. Then in summer of '24 it will likely be a challenge again.

Biggest win this off-season would be Marleau moving on and Leafs getting out from his cap, 2nd biggest IMO would be getting Marner on a 8 yr in order to stagger some of the future pain.

I like the Wild trade, solves a lot of issues. Any chance we could get more from Brown, I think he holds more value that that. Anyone out there see him bringing back more of a middle 6 forward (C/W) who could flip flop with Nylander depending on the situation?
