Description

Sully went to bat today for Dom Simon, and I completely agree with him.

First off, I understand why there are a lot of Pens fans who think he is the coach's golden boy and isn't contributing offensively like they deploy him. He hasn't produced, and it is obvious that it has affected his confidence. But if you watch him when he carries the puck, he is such a smart player. He can hold the puck in the offensive zone and create space, and he typically makes really smart passes that usually only players like Sid and Geno see on the ice. It's frustrating because a lot of it comes from him missing golden chances and wide open nets, but things like that happen to many players. I am here to ask Penguins fans to give him a chance in the top 6 before writing him off. We are at a tough point in the season to really try different things and the clock is ticking for sure, but I hate when I see others bash him for not being as good as Teddy Blueger or Garrett Wilson. Both of those guys are great and I love to see the WBS boys find success, but Simon is actually really good and would be a mistake letting go.

I agree with you but i dont agree with you about garret wilson. Simon is also pretty decent defensively.

And Reese has been great with geno and phil and theyve been better with him. Reese is also defensive which is good because most people think to have a defensive winger play with those two or kessel. Not that mccanns defense isnt just as good but reese already has established chemistry.

When healthy the pens should not have Simon in their top 6. Rust or Horny can play with Crosby and Guentzel and the Aston-Reese, Malkin and Kessel line has been fantastic. McCann-Bjugstad-Rust was a solid line. so right there Simon is on the outside looking in to a spot in the top 9. Blueger has earned a spot on the 4th line with his production and sully won't sit Cullen so you should have Wilson/Simon battling for the last spot in the lineup. Don't get me wrong Simon is a solid player but when healthy the Pens will have a tough time figuring him into their lineup.

Simon has no business on the 4th line. Wilson is sandpaper, but he doesn't have much offensive upside. Angello can provide offense and sandpaper. It's another poor organizational move to have him still spinning wheels in WBS.

oh in addition, I would have benched Cullen a long long long time ago. He's not the player he use to be.
