(NJD/ARI) - Hall, Speers for Bahl, Merkley, Schnarr, 1sr round pick, conditional 3rd round pick
People need to read into these trades before they go voting because the amount of people who think Arizona Won this trade is way too many. Keep in mind that AZ is a good solid team right now and they just got better with Hall in the short term. The Coyotes are going to make the playoffs and I think they will win their first round match up so right there the NJ Devils are getting a hard 1st Round pick in a very deep draft (2020) and they get a (soon to be) 2nd Round pick in another deep draft in 2021. In addition, NJ gets the 3rd and 4th rated Prospects from AZ right now and Kevin Bahl is a STUD and a big one at that. Merkley is an NHL caliber player and will make the NJ team going forward. Getting basically 4 young players in this deal is terrific for NJ for a player who they weren't able to sign is very good. I think the Coyotes will TRY VERY HARD to sign Taylor Hall longterm if he does good in the first month. Once Marian Hossa and Mike Ribiero's contracts come off their books they will have the Cap to lock him in as one of their top forwards. I think it's a win win for both teams right now but overall I think IF NJ drafts well then they win longterm. If Hall was more consistent I'd be saying otherwise.

who was going to give them more. No one.
You could see that a mile away. 1st and a prospect was basically the ceiling on this and they got that. If he resigns they get more, but we have to wait and see how that goes.

Not a lot of teams are willing to offer 2 potential 1st round picks and 3 B prospects for a 6 month rental

Guess I will join the opposite side as I do with most of these trades.
A hard first round pick, A conditional 3rd that is almost guarantee to become a 2nd round pick (could become 1st).
And 3 B prospects (1 being a former first)
All for a Rental who isn't even a PPG and missed almost all of last season with an injury.
Thanks for bringing Tatar's value up :)

I hate the Devils more than any other team but even I wouldn't say they lost this trade. Seems like wherever Hall was going to end up, people were going to bash the Devils for their return. In all honestly, he isn't worth the moon, so I don't know why people were expecting that. Bahl and Merkley are really good prospects, and they got two picks out of it too. Giving up Speers was... weird... but aside from that, this really isn't a bad return for an overrated, polarizing, unproven (in playoffs) 28 year-old winger who was never going to sign in NJ anyway. I'm with you on this one, Devils fans (never thought I'd say that). Hockey world overreacting. Let's see what Hall can do in the playoffs before we call this a win for Arizona.

On one hand, it's better to get something for someone you know is leaving in the offseason than just letting them walk for nothing (ahem, Columbus). On the other hand, wtf Shero lol.

STL side of the MTL trade 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>worcat</b></div><div>Agreed. If the Blues are going to make any trade of the young core, it better be for a guy like JT91.
Any trade at the deadline this year, I'd be ok seeing Blais, Barbashev, Schmaltz, Walman on the move.</div></div>
Agreed. I like Blais too though. Even if he's just our improved version of Paajarvi.
My ideal scenario, trade barbashev for Maroon+. Trade Gunnarsson++ for Grabner.
Barbashev is a cheap replacement for Maroon/letestu next year.
Gunnarsson is the replacement for Holden and has tons of experience playing with Shatty.
Gunnarsson and barbys money equals Maroon and Grabner
Easy peasey

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sicarius</b></div><div>Absolutely no to Maroon.
Absolutely no to Patches.
Hoffman is the best option but the cost would be someone that I don’t want to see go. The Blues have 4 prospects in Thompson, Thomas, Kyrou, and Kostin that Army has confirmed generate a lot of interest from other GM’s. If the Blues are after a top 6 player like Hoffman it’s a pretty good bet one of those 4 are on the table.
Personally I don’t think this team is a top 6 player away from making a run. They’re a playoff team and that’s about it. I’m hopeful that Army thinks the same thing.
My wish is to have both Thomas and Kyrou up on the club as soon as their OHL seasons are over. Nobody could convince me that Sundqvist and Paajarvi should be on the roster over those 2.
Army signing both Berglund and Sobotka is somewhat of a head scratcher. I’d rather keep Sobotka but Berglund isn’t tradable with the NMC. I’m kind of expecting Sobotka to be moved. Maybe he’s packaged and the Blues get a 1st back for 2018.
Maybe the roster is this by year’s end:
Schwartz Schenn Tarasenko
Steen Stastny Thompson
Berglund Thomas Kyrou
If Kyrou and Thomas can both make the jump to the NHL, and be impactful, next year could be the start for runs at the Cup for 4+ years. Add Fabbri to next year and the team offense could potentially be very dynamic.
The Stastny situation is interesting. He’s a very good 2C but is somewhat injury prone and will be 32 entering his last big contract. I’m not keen on the Blues being the holder of that contract. It’s a really big if, but if Army has no intention of resigning Stastny, trading him could be in the best interest for the Blues. Plenty of fans would freak out if Stastny is dealt but it could make sense long term.</div></div>
Thomas nor Kyrou can’t play in the NHL this season unless under emergency situations. It’s not like college where you can sign a guy right away and use them.
I agree no to Patches or Maroon. Sobotka should be traded for cap reasons if nothing else. I like him as a player, but not worth keeping around. I don’t want JBo back after THIS season. Just buy him out and be done with it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>worcat</b></div><div>If you are suggesting the Blues would receive a 1st round pick for Sobotka, I would disagree. If you meant Sobotka plus whatever else he is packaged with, then yes I agree they could potentially acquire a late round pick. I would hate to lose Sobotka but as you suggested, eventually there will very little room for our current 3rd/4th liners to have quality playing time. The Berglund and Sobotka contracts don't bother me as much as the Steen contract. His offense is declining as each game goes by but he's making up for it with leadership and penalty killing. However, I'm not sure his $5.75 over the next 3 years is worth that. I think if Berglund was presented the right conditions to play for another contender that he would entertain the transaction. He was a list of 20 teams he could go to, it's not like he'd be forced to play in Phoenix or anything.
The Stastny scenario is entirely up to him. I feel that the Blues would keep him on after his current contract expires if and ONLY if, Stastny identifies his role with the team as a faceoff specialist/leadership role and agrees to to a 4.5-5 mil contract per 3 years. If he infact wants to retire with the Blues and understands that a youth movement is coming, he would be happy to be apart of that chance to play for a true contender during his last ride for a Cup.
It may be my own personal opinion but I'm not sure I would welcome Jbou back after his contract is over after 2019. Even if he accepted around or under $3 mil, I feel that he has lost a step and will only get worse. I expect Walman to replace him by then as another LH shot and by then Edmundson and Dunn will have fully moved into their proper roles with the team. I expect Gunnarsson will be long done before this scenario even breaks wind. If Bortz is willing to stay around another year or two at $1.15 after his current deal, I'd be open to that as well. Not a bad guy to have around as a 6th or 7th dman.</div></div>

My god. Give up our two best prospects, one of our prospects who has gotten NHL time, for Patch and one of the worst backups in the league. Additionally, give up two of our most consistent veterans? Lol what?
