<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>1st, Bouchard and Bear aren't ready for the NHL, let alone NHL top-4.
2nd, they play a different position than Nurse does.
3rd, the Oilers are a very good team when McDavid is on the ice, they need secondary scoring, not a winger for McDavid.
4th, if the cap space isn't being utilized to improve the team then there's absolutely no point in making an expensive cap dump trade.</div></div>
Okay I'll bite.
1. My point is that they have a surplus 2-6 defence and I disagree that Bouchard won't be ready to compete for spot next year. I've watched him a lot and he looks like the real deal. Top 4 next year? Not likely, but compete for a spot? Absolutely. By all means, if he's not ready don't rush him but a very promising player nonetheless.
2. Fair. Thought Bouchard was left but I was wrong. Still, Nurse is a valuable trade chip out of your defense and from what I see, is going to max out as a 2-3 defenseman which they have plenty of. EDM's biggest need is speed up front which Ehlers definitely gives them so if it costs Nurse I would 100% take it. Not doing it because you don't want to move a RHD to the left side is foolish, look at Carolina. Too many RHD is a good problem to have.
3. The point was, wouldn't that line be fun to watch. And look at Colorado, Boston etc. Teams stack top lines now, If it works they'll run with it and if its not then they'll split it up. This point is irrelevant and was strange mentioning, look at how many times Draisitl was paired with McDavid for a stretch then split up and then reunited again. Same thing in Boston and Colorado with that top line.
4. If the opportunity presented itself in the offseason to rid yourself of a horrendous contract for the next 4 years when your team is a nonplayoff team but up against the cap why wouldnt you for that price? Why would you rush to use that cap space if the right opportunity to spend it isn't there? Cap flexibility going forward when you've had an opportunity to reevaluate your team and find out what your actual holes are and not expected holes is a great thing to have.

RNH for Depth
I think Nuge is better than both those players individually. I wouldn't do this trade because 1) it means we can't play McDavid and Draisaitl together, and 2) we don't know what JP might turn out to be. I think to solve the Top 6 F the Oilers could sign one through FA that'll cost below 6M. Then you have a bonafide 1st and 2nd line with McDavid + Draisaitl and another with Nuge + Top 6 F.

Trade with desperate teams
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>twodollarlobster</b></div><div>So, just some thoughts
1. RNH has more points than JVR, Fabbri and Simmonds combined this year. Plus Simmonds will certainly leave after this year as he is a UFA.
2. If you're going to make a trade to get rid a ton of forwards, why not bring in a defense? The St.Louis trade, why not make it for Parayko?
3. I don't disagree with bringing in Winger help, but I just don't think these are the wingers the Oilers want. The only one worth value right now is Perron but you have to wonder about his age.</div></div>
Pretty much this.
You’re getting rid of Nuge and a cheap Yamo, for an overpaid JVR and a soon to be overpaid Simmonds.
Then you’re trading High-potential (yes it’s not guaranteed, but a lot has been invested in these players) and a high pick for Perron(still effective but older and has no speed) and Fabbri (good young piece, but also just missed a full year due to injuries).
None of these really help the Oilers out.

Trado for D option
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>twodollarlobster</b></div><div>I did read everything. But this trade never specified if they resign or not. BUT while we are on this topic, let's assume that Karlsson resigns. He still isn't worth Drai and a 1st. Draisaitl has had more points than Karlsson, playing second fiddle to McDavid, he is younger than Karlsson and can still get better. You are in theory trading away a #1 D for a #1 C. Sure Karlsson is better but not worth a first rounder on top of that.</div></div>
He is, in a landslide. Without even the shadow of a doubt. No arguments you can ever throw in will change that fact (because IT IS a fact, not an opinion). It's not a knock on L.D. at all, it's the difference between the best of the bests at his position (top2-3 D in the world) VS a great young elite centerman ("MAYBE" top 25-30 centermen in the world)...fact.

I only gave it 4 stars because Milbury would've traded that 2020 5th round pick as well.

Oil trade - 2018/19 Pwr Hws
Yup I was thinking signing a vet in the 2.5 - 3 range for a couple years as a place holder for Yamo / Zandia would a good bet. Grabner et al. Gives you youth coming up the chain for when Patches contract is up in a year. If the team is not strong into the playoff push trade patches for what you can get for him to a playoff team.

Selling dead weight building the right way
Even if puljujaarvi has a good next season! You don't think they should try a bridge? Bc it was only 1 year. Its a lot of money for someone who may have 1 good season under his belt. Let him do the self bet and do 2-3 years of solid work. Then pay him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FullSend</b></div><div>1st trade is an indefinite “nooooo” from Edmonton
2nd trade, with Sekera’s clauses waived, salary retained, No from Edmonton, although we do need to dump him, not in this way.
3rd trade, yes from Edmonton. Great future 3rd and 4th line cheap options + a late 2nd to boot, didn’t like Strome anyways.
4th trade is no from Edmonton, Stay away from Reinharts?!! But seriously, he isn’t a shooting winger, he supports a need being right handed, Beaulieu is a decent top 4 at best. Nurse is just too close to untouchable right now being one of the bright spots of the season, no need to add Camm and 2nd. I don’t think Buffalo gives up on Reinhart unless given a lot, and we shouldn’t persue.
5th trade is just a no from both teams, I think both can get more with their assets, I like Russell when he’s simple, not doing too much, a <strong>Great</strong> 5th Dman, who fills a top 4 D like nothing and a beast on the PK. Maroon can get a 2nd + decent AHLer, Benson’s starting to look like a good pick this year etc, etc.
6th trade: No from Edmtonon Letestu gets a 3rd and a 5th alone as market price.</div></div>
Yours is the sort of replies that I think every person who posts wants to receive. I am only going to respond to the Sabre trade.
IMO, Nurse for Reinhart may be a close swap with a defense-man normally having a bit more value.
I think Cammalleri is added to even up the rosters.
You are correct about Beaulieu, 2nd pair is his ceiling.
But you have to be intrigued with a top line of Draisaitl McDavid and Reinhart. With McDavid at center Sam will be awesome. and Buffalo would kill to have Nurse playing next to Ristolainen.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>twodollarlobster</b></div><div>You could argue the opposite. Matt Benning has cracked an NHL team and for the most part playing solid hockey, whereas Ho-Sang can't crack the NHL, has had a bad attitude, and isn't even producing much at the AHL level. Now I do think Ho-Sang has a higher ceiling but he isn't showing he's going to get anywhere near it. Maybe Benning and a 4th/3rd for Ho-Sang?</div></div>
I think that would be closer, but I still don't know that the Isles would do it. IMO it's a lot harder to find a guy with Ho-Sang's upside (even if it hasn't amounted to much yet) than it is to find a 3rd pairing defenseman. There are a lot more Benning-type guys available, which reduces their value.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campa96</b></div><div>He is having his best season in his career and he's still not on pace for more than 55 points. I feel like Edmonton fans are overrating him a bit because they surrounded by bad news and the good stands out just by contrast. He is on pace to score less than his third and fourth years in the league, and is having an average season scoring-wise.</div></div>
Nuge was on pace for thirty goals before his injury, so I would take a young center over a coring winger any day

It still doesn't change the fact that Oilers cannot afford to do this. Unless Ottawa takes one contract away from them in that trade.
