Kovi [FLA]
That FLA trade...why? Kovalchuk, Cammy (salary-retained), and one of Nico/Nolan for a player who has hit 50 points twice (Trochek)and a guy being billed as an offensive defenseman while only putting up 17 points (Matheson).
Totally overpaying on NJ's end here as Trochek/Matheson don't get anywhere close to being worth a first-overall + a semi-high quality player and a decent player after a bad year. Not to mention that Nico/Nolan can eventually be as good as Trochek if not better plus having more time in our system to adapt and learn how we would like them to.

Oshie signing, Gally trade

Quoting: CD282

Nice upgrades. I have no idea if those assets are enough to net you Galchenyuk and Vatanen, but I like the result. This team should be pushing for a playoff spot for sure.
One change I would make to your lines would be to put Oshie and Hall together. I think they would compliment each other well.

I think Montreal might take it if we trade a salary-retained Kovalchuk for Gally 1-for-1. I think the extra second pushes it a little too far considering there is no guarantee to how an older Kovy will play in his first season back in the NHL.
Vatanen, on the other hand, we would be giving way too little for here. No way Anaheim takes two middling "prospects" (if, at 24 years old, Lappin can be considered a prospect anymore) and a second round pick. I'm sure another team will most likely offer a good amount more than that, thereby driving the price up if we want to grab the young, promising defenseman.

We will trade you a d man (for expansion-lovejoy, merill,) plus a pick (2-3rd) and a ExpExempt d man (jacobs, AuVee2, mozik) for to get Vats. You get player to expose, a pick for your troubles and a throw in D
We would also be interested in a similar deal for Silf

I'm actually a Devils fan, but I'll let a Ducks fan know your offer if I ever meet one in person :)

I don't think Theodore will be the one being dealt though. He's still on an ELC and seems to have a decently high ceiling from what I know. I think either Fowler ($4,000,000) or Vatanen ($4,875,000) will be traded instead to free up cap space.

Absolutely no way Severson get exposed by the Devils. Especially not after the loss of Adam Larsson. Their defense wouldn't be able to handle the loss of two of their best young defensemen in a matter of two years. Expect Lovejoy to be exposed in order to fill the requirement with Severson, Greene, and Merrill protected at least (maybe John Moore gets protected too depending how the Devs view their forwards).
I'd also imagine the Flames would protect Shinkaruk.

So their average offensive production is roughly the same. Cammy is also 34 years old and is signed for 3 more years for $5m per year while Hossa is 37 and is signed for 5 more years at $5.275m per year. On top of that, you're looking to upgrade your 6th round pick to our 4th round? It is fair in both ways, because Hossa fits New Jersey's Defensive Style of Play... Cammaleri just needs a true #1 C to play with in order to achieve a productive year

No it is not. Devils do NOT want a 37 year old forward for another 5 years with a higher cap hit than Cammy, regardless of play style. If anything, New Jersey is looking to get younger or shed high cap hit contracts for older players. If Cammy was traded, it wouldn't be for an older player being paid more money for a longer period of time and turning their 4th round pick into a 6th.

I'm sure we'd consider dropping Josefson, but we're not giving up a serviceable veteran defenceman in Lovejoy and a good PK player for a cap-dump, regardless of the cap space we have. You would have to send more our way and expect us to send less back (we shouldn't be paying you to take on a contract we don't need/you don't want and a player we don't even want).

SIX third rounders for a first and two seconds? Fragile Nuge and aging Sekera plus a second rounder for a salary-retained PK, 1C Johannsen, and a first round pick (among others)?
Good lord, man. If Edmonton actually pulled off these trades, the whole front office should be tried for robbery while the other teams' GMs should be fired for incompetence!

You're going to try to trade a cap-dump and a 7th round pick for a former first overall? He may not have proved much at this point, but he's still worth something to Edmonton. Plus the fact you'd still have to pay them to take on five more years of Marc Staal, even with salary retained. In this case, they'd be stuck with a low-end defenseman at $4.2M per season who would probably end up being a bottom pairing guy for them, since Klefbom, Larsson, Nurse, Sekera, and maybe even Davidson would most likely be ahead of him on the depth chart at the very least. You don't typically have the other team reward you for taking your bad contracts, and in this case, I'd imagine Edmonton declines immediately.

I'd swap Fiddler with JJ on the fourth line since Fiddler has a history of being better in faceoffs. I also don't think Blandisi is ready for 2C duty at all and could use a little bit of time in the AHL at the start of the season to clean up his game a bit. I'd bump Zajac to 2C, slide Zacha over to 3C, slot Boucher in at 3LW, and consider Palmieri at 2C to see if the Zajac-Palms chemistry is still there (if not, testing him with Hall-Henrique might work out too, so I get that line of yours for sure). I'm just not sure if Russel would take $1.5m for one year, especially in NJ.

Even if he waived it for Jersey, I don't think they'd want to make that trade. We have enough LW depth for now (Hall, Cammy, Boucher, Smith-Pelley, Bennett, Wood, Josefson, Fiddler, potentially Elias) along with center depth (Henrique, Zajac, Josefson, Fiddler, Zacha, Blandisi) that we don't need or want Filppula, even for just a late pick. We need RW depth and D right now, and I don't think Shero would even consider this deal from Tampa.

Devils trade isn't though. Devils don't want a 30 year old defenseman who has only put up a maximum of 17 points with a $4.2m salary for two more seasons. Devils want to be younger and faster along with generating more secondary offense. If they trade for a defenseman, it'd be for one with more of an offensive upside...or at least younger or with less salary. The need just isn't there to make a trade even for a 4th rounder.

You're not giving EDM two awful contracts for aging vets who are either streaky or on a sharp decline (even with retained salary) and receiving a good young center, a prospect, and two picks.
No.

No way Nashville parts with Fiala and Ellis for Kreider. Fiala is still a 20 year old prospect with a good amount of potential, and I think it would take a lot more going Nashville's way to get Fiala, even without Ellis included in the deal. Not to mention that Kreider is part of the reason Vesey came to NYR, why would you up and trade him right away?
On the TOR end, giving up JVR and Gardiner for a salary-retained streaky Nash, a decent but aging Klein, and decent D prospect McIlrath would just be bad asset management on their part and a steal for the Rangers. Gardiner is only 26 years old and is good for about 30 points per season along with being a pretty good 2nd pair defender. JVR is only a bit older, at 27, and is the Leafs' 1LW, If you think this trade seems fair to the Leafs for what they're giving up, you're crazy. This is more lopsided than the trade with Nashville.

It's not money as much as it is duration, most likely. He's probably looking for a long and secure contract before he can't anymore due to potential play degradation, and I don't think it's in the Hawk's best interest to take that route. I think they need to stay young and skilled and not tie up more money and another roster spot to a vet for multiple years to come.

Not only that, why would the Devils want Krug, especially if we're giving up Moore as well. Moore and Krug are the same age, plus we want one of our prospects (Severson) to step up into Larsson's first-pairing role minus PK minutes. Don't think we'd be your trade partner there since, if anything, we'd be looking for a proven second-pairing defenseman (that doesn't eat up $5m of cap space).

I'm not such a huge fan of Blandisi being on the main roster again yet. I think he needs some more time in Albany to fine-tune his game a bit. He needs a bit of work on his skating and needs a little bit of discipline before he heads back up. I also think Bennett is not going to sit on the 4th line as that would do almost nothing to validate trading for him. He's not a 4th line type of player, injury history or not, and will probably find himself near the third line and maybe flirting with second line duties on the right side. I have Palmieri/Bennett/DSP/Kalinin on the right and Hall/Cam/Boucher/Josefson of the left since Bouch is normally a LW and Bennett plays RW.
