Probably not... Andrei for all his faults as a player is very very good and isn't gonna send us into a further cap hell like Johnny's contract would

Toronto Maple Leafs signed Cade Webber (2 Years / $875,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>Trust me unless your name is Makar not many teams have used Small Dman and won cups in recent years
Other than the Avs everyone's big
And Orlov may be a bit short but 214 pounds makes up for it. Wild meanwhile no cup with Spurgeon and while it could work with him he would be an exception and fox is up there with Makar but still no cup out of it yet.
Having a football team on the backend makes it hard for opponents to get to the front of the net, create plays, among other things
We saw it during VGK run last year</div></div>
I mean that's totally fair... The Hurricanes blue line is great and everybody besides Orlov is 6'1 or bigger

VGK Cup Winner (2023) 🤷
Hague 6'6 230 pounds
McNabb 6'4 201 pounds
Pietrangelo 6'3 215 pounds
Hutton 6'3 201 pounds (7th Dman)
Whitecloud 6'2 207 pounds
Theodore 6'2 197 pounds
Martinez 6'1 210 pounds
And in that series vs. FLA we saw the damage those guys did. FLA just could not get much done with these guys preventing net drives.
Its a copy cat league and teams will see okay what do I need to help my team win lord Stanley by copying what the other guy did. Now yes small Dman can work but they need to be Makar level gifted</div></div>
I think that small defensemen work they just need to be very technically sound... Spurgeon, Orlov, and Fox come to mind.

Playoff Predictions as a Leaf fan
I think your underestimating how much better this Hurricanes team is than last year.
We add a healthy Andrei Svechnikov, Jake Guentzel, Dmitry Orlov, and a much improved power play.
Plus the Panthers haven't scored in 120 straight minutes against the Hurricanes

Top 10 Every Position 2024 Playoffs Edition
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mv21227</b></div><div>I had Eichel, Aho, and Miller all pretty close for 8/9/10. You could argue Aho ahead of Eichel but for me Point is definitely ahead. Although if you were using just PPG and points Miller would then be ahead of Aho (and quite a few others)</div></div>
Point to me feels much more a product of his linemate than being the one elevating his linemates... his stats over the past few years without Kucherov are not great to say the least but I can see the argument for Point/Eichel/Aho/Miller for that 7/8/9/10 spot.

Aho should be higher than Eichel at a minimum (higher p/g, and goals) if not Point

1. He was an excess good in the Hurricanes farm system
2. As a favor to Daniel Brière after he bought out TDA so that we could sign him

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>That's your first problem. The Pro-Hockey Group and the Capfriendly scouting tool in general are not worth anyones time, if I'm being totally honest. It is full of hobbyists who mostly don't know what they are talking about. Anyone who does know what they are talking about wouldn't say that about Nazar. Third line floor? Maybe. No one is ever a sure thing, but he solidly projects as a top 6 forward as much as anyone.</div></div>
That's a totally fair gripe with that and prospect evaluations aren't my thing.
This is a completely honest question... How do you see somebody who wasn't able to muster more than PPG in college as more than a middle-six guy at the next level?

Igor is sporting a .930 save % and seems to know how to turn it on when he gets to the playoffs. Hot goaltending is the similarity between most of the recent cup winners</div></div>
Their goaltending had HOF track records before those post-seasons... Igor doesn't have that yet. Sometimes hot goaltending just ends up flaming out... just ask Alex Lyon, Linus Ullmark and Igor from last year.

The Hurricanes have let in 20 fewer goals at 5v5 than the Rangers... that's the other part of this

It's hard to project what goalies will do in the postseason (or in general) so we don't really know what's going to happen

Both of those teams fit into my exception that you needing a HOF quality goaltender to escape being a poor 5v5 team... you clearly didn't read you just reacted
Igor has had a down year... he's not been exactly been giving the rangers HOF level goaltending

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rags21</b></div><div>Also rangers have no depth scoring?
Since the TDL:
Kakko, brodzinski, goodrow, cuylle, vesey and Wennberg combine for 12 goals 24 points at 5v5
KK, Drury, Necas, Noesen, Kuz, Fast, and Lemieux combine for 5 goals 17 points at 5v5</div></div>
So you compared a bunch of fourth-liners and healthy scratches (Excluding Necas and Kuzy) against a bunch of third-liners... that's a great comparison.
Hurricanes current bottom six at 5v5 since TDL: 9 goals, 32 points at 5v5
Rangers current bottom-six at 5v5 since TDL: 10 goals, 23 points at 5v5
