That Labanc trade is awful for the isles</div></div>
Maybe Nelson plays with Wally & Barzal and Couture centers Lee & Labanc in this scenario…also don’t think Beau has much value at all other than being young and changed to a 3rd rather than a 2nd for Labanc

Made it a next years third…have to think Beau has minimal value these days he hasn’t played up to his salary/expectations this season

Skinner to the Islanders

Bailey a bit older than I would want.
Leddy does not add to the Sabres, as they are over flowing with defensemen
2020 2nd is this not what the Sabres gave up to get Jeff.
I hate to say this but if the Sabres could flip Leddy, this could work out really well.
Let me give you a preliminary thumbs up. It is a definite go if I or you can find a home for Leddy.</div></div>

Tried to make some edits. Maybe Florida takes Boychuk and Aho and CGY takes Leddy. Not sure if Bailey & the picks gets it done so maybe the isles add in Bellows. This would require Komarov to be bought out instead of traded

Skinner to the Islanders
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Riley816</b></div><div>Trading Skinner for that package isn't the answer...</div></div>
I think it would be interesting too to flip the packages...maybe Bellows, Komarov, Aho, Boychuk for Zetterberg (LTIR) and 2 2nds and a 3rd and then use 1 of the 2nds with Bailey and Leddy for Skinner?

just a thought but I agree. Isles need to dump Boychuk and Komarov somewhere and hoping that they can amnesty Ladd but if not im sure they will just bury him for the cap relief.

Realistic Islanders
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bgainesdm</b></div><div>Beau, like Tom Wilson, doesn't have to be a standout top line LW(although despite him being ridiculously snakebitten with a bottom 6 PDO on the entire team, he was projected to break 23 goals), but his 2 way role and speed is what would enable Barzal and Wahlstrom to play more freely. Lee doesn't have the speed Beauvillier has to open up Barzal and Eberle/Wahlstrom's game.</div></div>
I don’t hate the line of Beau-Barzal-Eberle but they were getting pushed around a lot in their own zone when they were put together in the past. I prefer someone bigger on Barzal’s wing like I said before, and I think Barzal and Eberle should never be split apart they are super dynamic together and play off each other’s strengths so well. All they need is someone they can pass to who will just shoot everything. If Bellows can become a 1st line type talent then he is a potential fit in that spot but I think Wahlstrom is a better fit even on his off wing

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bgainesdm</b></div><div>Dobson didn't look well on his offside. Would rather a top line like this in the long-term
Beauvillier - Barzal - Wahlstrom
The tendencies Beauvillier and Wahlstrom have really compliment one another.</div></div>
I had this argument with someone on Twitter a while back. I don’t think Beau is a top line LW. He’s not a sniper and he’s not really a playmaker. He’s a solid 2-way forward which fits better in the middle 6 (Beau-JG-Brass would be one of the best 3rd lines in the NHL). I think Wahlstrom is exactly what Barzal needs in a shoot-first big sized winger. Again, if Barry can get Ovi to play LW and still defend he can coach up Ollie too. That’s why he gets the big bucks. Also the Dobson comparison doesn’t really work, being a winger on their off side doesn’t require the same skills as a defenseman would need especially on d-zone exits its harder for defenseman to pass on their backhand side than on their forehand side.

I see Barzal taking a very similar deal to Marner. Marner got 6x10.8 and I think Barzy is a little better and is a franchise player so 5x10 seems realistic. I don’t see him wanting 6-8yrs when he can be a UFA sooner and still get his $ now

I want him in the Ovi spot on the left side. If Barry can teach a vet who never played defense to change course and play defense I’m sure he can help a rookie too. And Barzys speed and Ebs passing and board play would set up well with a sniper like Wahlstrom who can just fire away

Laine to NY
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeygoalie53</b></div><div>Wilde had a down year the year in 17-18 (before he was drafted), which is why he slipped to the 2nd round, when most had him going in the Top 15 of the 1st round. He had an excellent year last year in the OHL (70pts) in 62 games in his first year of professional hockey. He's considered, by many, to be the biggest steal of the 2018 draft... so not sure where you are getting that he had a "mediocre" year last year??
As for Laine, I get what you're saying, but Laine has shown NO inclination to learn the D side of his game. Trotz was able to get Ovie to become a more defensive player, so I would argue he can do the same with Laine... IF Laine is willing. You just don't trade a blue chip prospect or a #1 D for someone who, as you put it "if he develops (this) or (that)...".
I want Laine on the Isles and I think he's a piece that could put them over the top, but I'm not sacrificing our D to get him. Pulock became out #1 D-man last year and is on his way to becoming Trouba-esque, I'm not trading him for Laine under any circumstances. Dobson has a real chance to make the Isles this coming season, just a year after being drafted and could be better than Pulock in the long run... Him being on an ELC is something the Isles are going to need as they wait for contracts like Ladd/Boychuk/Etc to expire... again, not trading that for Laine.
The package of Leddy (Top 4 Dman), Wahlstrom and Wilde (2 TOP Prospects) and a 1st is enough. In fact, if I'm being honest, it's almost too much to give up. Leddy, one of Wahlstrom/Wilde, a lesser prospect and a 2020 1st should be enough, imo.</div></div>
As the OP I totally agree with this take hence why I made the trade what I did (2 top prospects, top 4 Dman, 1st rd pick). Also without shedding Leddy’s salary and subbing in a lesser prospect, the isles would probably be over the cap ceiling after extending Laine unless maybe Beauvillier would be included instead. That being said, I would actually trade Pulock for Laine, but only if it was straight up. Otherwise not worth it isles are better off keeping Pulock and making a deal elsewhere.

Guess you didn’t watch the playoffs then or any isles game all season...oh I wonder why. Pulock will be the isles #1 defenseman next year and is trending toward being up there with the likes of Weber, Karlsson, and PK Subban in terms of offensive upside for D-men when he hits his prime (still only 24). He will most likely stay on the Island but would be a great centerpiece for a major deal. Also remember Kane is soon to be 31...I don’t think this deal would happen but I think you definitely overrate his trade value.

Lol go back to following the draft lotto...Leddy and Pulock are the Isles top 2dmen, Bellows/Wahlstrom is interchangeable would swap to make it work and 3 1sts is way too much. Trying to be realistic you are not.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smithcd995</b></div><div>Honestly, you may be selling Patty Kane short. I would say hes top 5 overall and the gold standard for wingers. I would probably take him over Kuch and Ovi tbh. I may be biased, since my father in law coached him at age 8 (Said he could tell 15 seconds into the first practice the kid was different).</div></div>
I think Patty Kane is absolutely a top 10 player in the NHL and probably one of the top 2 or 3 wingers. That said, Pulock is going to be a star, Leddy is already a top 2 on most teams, Bellows is a top flight prospect and 2 1st rd picks is quite the hefty price to pay. With Kane only getting older I could definitely see the Hawks smartening up and offloading some $ to re-tool w/ captain serious and their young stars (Debrincat, Strome). Definitely not an expected trade to happen but I think the Isles would be the best fit if it did.
