<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangles</b></div><div>This fills the needs of DAL very well. Lehtonen is absolute trash and their RW is just bad beyond Radulov. Spezza is basically a cap dump so that also works in the FLyers favour. The conditions on the 2020 1st makes a big difference in the deal. Basically the value breaks down like this IMO...

Neuvy&gt;Spezza
Simmonds (1 Year) = 13OA + Gurianov, first rights to get an extension done with simmer and remainder of value difference between Spezza and Neuvy
DAL 2020 1st makes up the remaining value if Simmonds resigns with DAL.

I put zero thought into DAL hosting because it makes ZERO difference. If the team gets better with a trade, the GM is going to make it. Trade gets done at the draft and DAL still gets their draft excitement.</div></div>

I think you might be slightly overvaluing Simmonds - which isn't to say he's not a player I would mind seeing in Dallas - I would actually love it for Dallas to acquire him, I just don't think he's worth basically 3 1st round picks for potentially 1 year which is what you are suggesting.

On top of that Kari as a starter was no good - true - much like Neuvirth for part of last year. This year as the back-up Neuvirth had a 2.60 gaa / .915 save percentage compared to Kari's 2.56/.912 which looks pretty similar to me. Add in Kari is off the books and there are several back-ups that will be UFA's this summer that don't cost us anything but a contract.

The current thinking is that Spezza would have a bounce back year with the new coach who is more of a puck possession/controlled entries guy than Hitchcock's offense killing dump and chase scheme that isn't Spezza's game at all. Dallas also doesn't have any Cap issues that would require them to dump Spezza in a $ saving move - he comes off the books next year when Seguin's big raise would take effect.

Stars look to be bringing back Nichushkin this summer to play on RW. Their biggest need is looking like a #2 LW (currently held by Janmark) which Simmonds could fill, but with JVR , James Neal, David Perron, Rick Nash, Evander Kane as potential LW UFAs to be signed for nothing but $; and that doesn't include the young prospects that will be vying for a spot with the Org talking about giving their youth a chance to step up, I just don't see them giving up that much futures for potentially 1 year of Simmonds - especially with how high the NHL as a whole is WRT 1st round pick value and developing from within.

I also think the fact they are hosting has an impact - they'd have to be blown away with the offer to give up their first round pick this year, especially not receiving a later one as part of the return and Simmond's for 3 1st rounders just doesn't do that in my eyes.
