I mean it's possible that it punishes both PLD and the Hawks.
I wouldn't lose any sleep over punishing Chicago lol

Lol the Kings can't just take on 5mil in cap hit and be expected to send a 1st round pick for a 33 and 36 year old. That's highly optimistic thinking.

Maybe for Toronto fans. It's more than a minor annoyance for us Kings fans.

Wouldn't trade Kempe 1-for-1. Contract, years left under control, playoff performance, size are all reasons why.
LA doesn't want Marner, unless it's a swap of disappointing players. You guys take Dubois, we'll take Marner.

Toronto - 2024-25 - Major Off Season
Is this going to be the summer where Kings fans have to constantly tell Leafs fans they LA doesn't want to add another smaller forward that can't perform in the playoffs, while also not having nearly enough space for his upcoming ridiculous contract?
Also, I wouldn't trade either of Byfield or Kempe 1-for-1 for Marner.
Ya'll are delusional.

I beg to disagree. If Roy walks, I think management would probably be pretty happy letting Clarke play 2D and adding a huge rugged 3RD and another 2nd rounder in place of their redundant puck-mover in Spence.
I like Spence a lot and wouldn't like to see him go. But our team needs to get larger throughout the lineup, back-end included.
Doughty, Clarke, Perbix would be a fine RD set, I think.

Kaliyev just isnt anything special that sticks out from our struggling wingers and would make us have to choose to put someone else on waivers in his place or put him on waivers which then puts the return to the 2025 1st.</div></div>

What needs to happen to get this team to the next level
1. Buyout PLD before he turns 26 is priority number one (I'm assuming nobody is a taker for him as part of a trade). Saves nearly 7mil on the cap next season.
2. Figure out if Roy is part of the answer, or decide to give Clarke 2RD.
3. Depending on how parts 1 and 2 go, pay a goalie an appropriate amount of money and let Portillo start getting NHL games (25-30).
4. Let Lizotte and Arvy walk, unless the latter decides to take a league-minimum bonus-laden contract. Let Turcotte actually play goddamn minutes in the NHL.
5. Find a 4C and 3RD with size.

Stamkos takes the Malkin deal
I like Tanner Jeanot, but he's older than Kaliyev, he scored less points than Kaliyev, he has a worse +/-, and he costs nearly twice as much as Kaliyev even with retention which is important since both teams are up against the cap.
Why are the Kings sending the better pick?

I know that Vejmelka and pick 49 aren't exactly garbage, but DuBois had a better year than Barrett Hayton (pro-rated) or Ryan Johansen (with Colorado).</div></div>
I dunno. I'd take that without hesitation. Kerfoot, sure who cares. But his contract is done after only a year and the Kings get a goaltender they can work with plus a couple picks, along with nearly 4 mil in cap space. Not to mention being free of PLD. Where do I sign?

What Playoff Lines Should Be
They broke up the Moore-Danault-Arvy line because they were a combined -6 after the first period. That was one of Danault's worst periods I've ever seen him play.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Fail4Nail</b></div><div>I think part of the issue last night for you guys was match up. Kopitar's line should be matched against McDavid and Danault against Drai. As an Oilers fan, we have to be ready for game 2, because I know the Kings will bring it.</div></div>
Unfortunately, that plays directly to your guys' strength. I'm a Kopi truther through and through (he has not gotten nearly enough national recognition throughout his career). But the fact of the matter is he has lost a couple steps over the past 4 years. He doesn't have the speed to keep up with McDavid anymore. The past two years that assignment has gone to Danault and he's done as "Okay" of a job as anyone can be expected to do against 97. The issue last night was a mix of poor pinching and no forward supporting those pinching - which allowed McDavid free ice to rush - and Danault really struggling staying in his zone coverage. He lost multiple people throughout the game. In addition, Doughty and Anderson had a very rough game. They'll need to pick up their game if we want to make a series of it.

LA Kings Playoff Lineup
You're pretty far off.
Turcotte is down with the Reign, Kaliyev hasn't played in weeks for Hiller (don't know why, he's just not trusted by the coach). Laffy's up with Kopitar and Kempe. Fiala and Lewis are being centered by Lizotte. Grundstrom is back and will be activated off of LTIR today. QBD-PLD-Grundstrom, probably. And Moore-Danault-Arvidsson.
On the defensive side, Anderson will start with Doughty as he always does.

Run it back next year
Kings aren't going to trade Turcotte (much less with Kaliyev added) for a 4th line center and a scratch.
Also, nah, Carts doesn't get his 77 put in the rafters. He might get a "Legends Night" if they bring those back, though. To me he falls into a similar category as Justin Williams.

Kempe would cost more than you have. With Guentzel gone, I can honestly say there's not a single player or prospect in the entirety of the Pittsburgh organization that interests me enough to even consider building a package deal for Kempe.
I love Sidney Crosby. But I'm not willing to give up Kempe's prime years for a year and a half of Crosby.

Bold move
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy316</b></div><div>Depends on the pick
After the top 10-15 its more of a crapshoot
Its why those picks are most often kept cause they can generate enough value to move them most drafts.
Picks 20-40 there usually isnt a big divide on but this year that expands out into the top 60 as we have players from all systems overachieving and joining this draft class.
Its much like the 2003 draft due to all the defensive quality that goes quite deep and if moving down 6 spots gets me two top 60 picks in this draft i'd do it if im LAK with so many prospects gone after the PLD trade and Turcotte always injured since turning Pro a year too early. This could give LAK some depth pack in the coming years</div></div>
That's some very generic reasoning that is very tilted to a Montreal perspective in this trade. Every draft is a "deep draft" to the team that wants to trade extra picks to move up. I'd still much rather pick quality over quantity. You'd need something much closer to the late 30's/early 40's if there was an interest in moving up into the top-20 from LA. Not late 50's.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy316</b></div><div>Depends on the pick
<strong><em>That said i'd still add Harris or Struble for Turcotte</em></strong> to make you guys feel like you got the better end
For MTL there's value in Turcotte as a Career AHLer if thats his destiny as thats where his dad made his impact in MTL
Without his Dad breaking in all the new guys on the 1986 Cup team that got promoted to the NHL from the AHL , you wouldnt see a cup in MTL
The Legacy of that will sell tickets and put butts in seats giving MTL something their AHL team can build on if Coach Houle can get him healthy with Franky B's help.
But i doubt that LAK are in Panic mode just yet over Turcotte. Once Camp comes and goes with him requiring Waivers they'll feel differently </div></div>
With regards to the bolded part of your quote -- You and every other Montreal fan on here. Just like the responses on their boards, the Kings don't have an interest in Harris or Struble. Neither of them play over Anderson, Gavrikov, or Englund.
In addition, LA is certainly not prepared to give up on Turcotte. They recognize his development problems have been injury related, not skill related. Even this year, he played on the top line with Kopitar and Byfield. He will make the team out of camp next year, there won't be a need to worry about waivers. His ceiling might not be what they hoped, but he has shown when he's healthy he's a middle-6'er at the NHL level. And the Kings will need his lower cap hit to help fill out the rest of the roster.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy316</b></div><div>
They could just leverage it to off load PLD though before his NMC kicked in over the next 4/7 remaining years he has left at 8.5m to be slightly more consistent then Gallagher offensively
MTL might take him on without RS despite even in his best year not being worth 8.5m but that would have to be for a top 20 pick this year outright, no exchange
LAK once that NMC kicks in puts themselves in a bad position if PLD hits another Career low which even at 19 entering one the NHL's worst Franchises in history still didnt sink this low. In MTL though in front of his Family and Friends he'll either succeed or he'll be bought out and forever shamed as the cap hit would last forever.</div></div>
Lol. I'm not fan of PLD, by any means. But they aren't going to pay a 1st round pick just to off-load someone who automatically becomes your 2nd line center. If he was being paid 5-6mil nobody would be batting an eye at his production. That means he's overpaid by 2.5-3.5mil, not 8.5mil. He's a pain to have to deal with in terms of cap, but LA is more than likely stuck with him.

The 57th pick is not enough to move up 6 spots in the 1st round.
