The smartest option

Ok, not great - talking about a goalie with a .913 career save percentage at ages 21, 22, and 23 playing in front of a rebuilding team... People on this site severely undervalue Georgiev. Potential starting goalies don't grow on trees

Best Under Cap
If you're gonna raise the cap then you may as well raise it to $150M. Imagine the best under the cap team you could create then

About Time
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>burg</b></div><div>How so?</div></div>
HOW SO?
Hutchinson is barely an NHL backup at 29. Timashov is barely making the lineup at 23.
Georgiev is a future starter and Andersson a former 7th overall draft pick.
Why in the world would New York do this?
edit: You yourself didn't even put Timashov or Hutchinson in the starting lineup, so you basically traded away a starting goalie and top 10 draft pick for AHL depth and a 3rd round pick. All of New york is grateful you are not their GM

What coga16 said, but also Kovalchuk hasn't played in over a month and would rather make the minimum salary and play, than to make 4.5M+ next year and sit.

Toughest competative team under the cap
I don't understand how you could not include players like MacKinnon, Scheifele, Bergeron, Pastrnak, Marchand, or Hall on a team like this. And if you have Wheeler playing center, why not spend the extra .500k for Crosby?

Carolina and Toronto would want to add pieces without subtracting from their current teams.
Detroit gets nothing AND retains salary? HA! You must realize Ceci and Hutchinson have negative value - the leafs would have to add a high pick or prospect for teams to accept them in a trade. Brooks is not that.

BLOCKBUSTER 3 WAY TRADE - Hall to STL - Pietro to TOR Thoughts
With all these trades including Ceci I don't think many people realize how much of a sweetener the leafs would have to add for a team to accept a third pairing D man making 4.5M, especially knowing they'd be be doing the leafs a favor.

Realistic Hall
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KileDoobis</b></div><div>If my team was already a cup front runner, then absolutely. For the Avs, it has to be all about this year, because who knows what's going to happen in the future. Tampa this year is evidence of that. They dominated last year, and hardly changed a thing, and they're not even in a playoff spot right now. Parity in the NHL is far too high to throw away opportunities like this because of an unwillingness to trade a future asset.</div></div>
If it was a trade and sign - maybe. If their core was on the wrong side of 30 - I'd agree with you. But they are already dominating and haven't reached their full potential yet. Byram will be a part of that for the next 10 years, and that should be way more appealing than adding Hall for the next 6 months.

Why would any team trade for Price with the way he's played the last 2 years when he's making 10.5M per for the next 6 years. I'd trade assets NOT to acquire Price...

What do Leaf fans think of this
I'd have a tough time justifying trading a 25yo winger signed reasonably for the next 3+ seasons for a 34yo UFA backup goalie. I'd like to think a cheaper option would be available somewhere, somehow

Yeah, cause the best deal NJ can get for a hart trophy winner in his prime is an underachieving RFA goalie and 32 year old defenseman signed for another 3 years...

My Fantasy Team - Who Would You Start Tonight
Without putting too much thought into their opponents tonight, and just overall fantasy value:
Marchand
Tavares
Point
Huberdeau
Couturier
Rielly
Mantha
But it's never as simple as that. Point is struggling and won't have Kucherov and Stamkos tonight (as far as I know?) , whereas Perron is overachieving and playing against an underachieving Nashville team and struggling goalie. May want to swap the two, but I'd give myself a headache if I micromanaged my team like this so I always stick with the superstar.
Also, if Bergeron is still out then Krejci will be playing 1C between Pastrnak and Marchand. If your team needs A and +/- over G, SOG, and hits, then swap Mantha with Krejci.
On D it doesn't look like you have a choice.
Play Price against NYR but be careful with Mrazek - Florida is on a roll and are second in the league in goals

Why does my fantasy team suck
Goalies are weak. Winnipeg is mediocre as a team and Suros is a backup. You're not gonna get a lot of wins and GAA and SV% will be inflated due to Winnipeg's play.
What are your scoring categories? I can't see your +/-, hits, or blocks being good at all. Your first pick was probably Matthews but he will only excel at goals and SOG. Panarin plays for a rebuilding team, half your D plays for either Ottawa or Dallas. When in doubt, pick up players who play for good teams. Luckily players who do well in +/-, hits, or blocks are easier to pick up through free agency than G, A, or even SOG

If the leafs want Parayko
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yikes</b></div><div>That’s why I said it’s iffy. It is an overpay. But Parayko is easily a top defender in he league. As <a href="/users/Bcarlo25" target="_blank">@Bcarlo25</a> said it Realistically should be marner or Matthews. Marner is a better suit but I think his cap is not worth it for the blues. But marner for Parayko is a fair swap. So than Matthews is your next choice but Matthews is a non starter really. So unless toronto is willing to give marner + a kicker for Parayko than it wouldn’t happen.
He’s worth more than Nylander and first lol</div></div>
It's not iffy, it's not even close. No GM would sacrifice 2 roster players, their top 2 prospects, and 2 top draft picks for someone older and signed for less term. Marner is also 4 years younger than Parayko, which is reason enough for Toronto not to do it, let alone an additional "kicker"

If the leafs want Parayko
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yikes</b></div><div>Dude read the description I know lol. But Nylander was on road to be a top line player prior I’d think (I once again do not like Nylander Or the leafs). I’m thinking the blues would rather Matthews but idk if Toronto would trade matthews. Marner - Parayko I can see getting done but if I’m the blues GM I want a kicker as well cause I gotta take that 10 mil blow and completely change up my team but I also think marner is not worth his hit so why bother.
Sandin is a cheap young good looking player
Bracco is Fabbro basically without injuries.
Nylander isn’t enough so that’s why I put the first but still said it probably isn’t enough.
So as I said at the end of the day the trade really isn’t gonna happen anyways unless it’s simialr too
Nylander
Sandin
Bracco
Kapanen
1st
2020 2nd
But that’s still iffy for both teams lol</div></div>
The F. I don't know much about Parayko but how is that not an overpay? Nylander is a potential 70-80 point guy; Sandin is making the team as a teenager; Bracco was second in scoring last year in the AHL; Kapanen could be a top 6 RW; a first AND a second? No way. Parayko is 26 signed for three more years. All 4 players mentioned are 23 or younger and will be significant pieces for the next 5+ years assuming none are traded. When was the last time you saw a solidifed top line winger, a team's #1 defensive prospect, a team's #1 offensive prospect, another top 6 winger, a 1st and second round draft pick in exchange for anyone?

Dubas and Sandin's agent agreed on no playing bonuses to avoid this exact scenario. Gets him to the NHL sooner and he likely makes up for it in his first contract

I'd take Agostino over Aberg and drop him to the 4th line with Gauthier and Spezza. Moore with Kerfoot and Mikheyev. Rotate your RD down one: Rielly - Ceci, Muzzin-Barrie, Sandin-Schmaltz. Though I'm still not sold on Schmaltz/6th D

Why not? Cup contenders with cap problems is a thing that will always exist in a salary cap league. I'd rather have a 21 man roster and no cap space with your core locked up while being a legit contender than having two fringe players in case of injury, where you can then give someone like Bracco a shot.
