that's right. My fault. I tried to go off memory on what the clause was.

I could see Jarmo doing this lol
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pocke</b></div><div>I get the worry. I would have liked the 22OA but there's a lot of calculus that went into that trade.
1. There weren't many defensemen available who fit the pre-Mateychuk/Svozil window that were actually good. Provorov is certainly a risk, but as recently as 21-22 he was a top puck-mover and he's a decent cap-hit with a situationally perfect contract length.
2. There aren't many C's available this offseason for reasonable prices.
3. Cole Sillinger looked like a good player when playing with Voracek, Bjorkstrand, Nyquist, but we no longer have veterancy on the wings.
4. Jake Bean and Adam Boqvist are not reliable players in the D zone.
5. Future cap doesn't matter. Florida, Vegas, Tampa are proving that it's not <em>that</em> hard to get out of deals. Cap is going up.
3 and 4 compound to make a very difficult development environment for young players. Bean and Boqvist (and to a lesser extent even Gavrikov) struggled with too many fires to put out because we didn't have centers that could play. Sillinger tanked this last season because he didn't have defensemen that could help him get the puck out of the zone and he had to carry rookies who had played fewer games than him after injuries.
Jarmo's moves were attempts to reduce the development hurdles by 1. Now that we have Provorov and Severson it will be easier to integrate less-experienced forwards (or d partners) into the lineup without them drowning in pressure in their own zone. If we got a good, reliable middle-six center to help Chinakov, Johnson, Texier, Sillinger play their games it would be even better. It remains to be seen whether one of those is available. Hopefully an improved D corps serves as a platform for them to learn to impact the game without swimming in rookie-mistake chaos.
With 3OA we have a prospect that looks 90% certain to be a 1C in either Fantilli or Carlsson. We just have to not blow it and help further insulate players like Sillinger, Johnson, Chinakov, Marchenko with their Nyquist, Bjorkstrand, Voracek equivalents.</div></div>
Yes where a lot of cbj fans are misinterpreting me is that all i am saying is i could see him doing this. In no way shape or form do i beleive he should. Columbus is my second favorite team behind the sabres, i get the market and how hard it can be to retain and attract players. All I am saying that if there is a chance provy wants to leave in 2 years time then you gave up an asset who you could have 7-8 years of team control up for a guy who may not even push you over the edge into becoming a playoff team. I said the same with ottawa and debrincat which was even more egregious because it was 7 overall. I get you have to take chances but for a guy in jarmo who is very likely on his last legs if this isnt successful makes me worried for the long term outlook of the jackets as he really doesnt care about 2-3 years from now.

Jackets trade up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Indy</b></div><div>They don't really. Their true need is a LW Playmaker this year but that's an easy fix by moving Zegras over and getting a center. Its not copium because I been on the fantilli train all year but I been seeing serious discussion that Carlsson might be the better option to offset some of Zegras' weaknesses by Carlsson being better at Fantilli with puck possession and defensive soundness. At the end of the day though Duck's will choose Fantilli as Zegras at his best when is more of a facilitator playmaker that can occasionally pull off a trick shot and needs that board work that fantilli can bring but also how Fantilli can drive to the net.
Honestly Carlsson is the ideal player for the Blue Jackets at the end of the day too which is why I hope all that Smith stuff is Portzline being his usual self just stirring up **** because it amuses him. They really need a sound hockey IQ/defensive player who can drive through the neutral zone if the first line is going to be JG-Carlsson-Marchenko the next few years with Carlsson being driver through the zone and JG/Carlsson trying to set up Marchenko/Z and having Jiricek at the back of the line to protect the rush on a turnover but also delivering a long range artillery blow.</div></div>
I've been having this conversation on the Ducks hfboard off and on. Neither team will regret their choice, but the style fits are pretty obvious for each player. Fantilli just fits so perfectly with what Verbeek is building, and so does Carlsson fit with what Jarmo is assembling.
Also, FWIW, in today's Athletic mock draft, Portzline did the Jackets entry and has them picking Carlsson.

I also don't know that Anaheim has the left half-wall one-time threat that makes Boqvist a perfect fit for the powerplay. Boqvist's shot threat and passing-vision are perfect for playing next to a Laine-type. Anaheim has a lot of lefty talent for the PP already.</div></div>

CBJ just really liked Severson. They paid a 3rd to avoid competing at FA but also so they could go into the draft with a clear picture of priorities. It's a pretty specific case and I think many teams won't be looking to change their teams as much as CBJ will be at this specific draft.</div></div>
Apparently, Fitzgerald had several offers for Severson’s rights. I don’t think anyone else negotiated a contract with him though. It may also be a reflection of thin UFA market…but clearly other teams were thinking the same thing.

This right here is what people don't understand and why these two trades were made. Not only injuries protection because these two Dmen are noted for their durability but their 3rd line had nobody that could drive out of the neutral zone. First line had JG, second line had Roslovic and KJ, 4th line had ERob. Who on the 3rd line can move through the neutral zone with Gudbranson on the ice? THAT'S WHY Sillinger had such a miserable year then badly tanked his confidence. With Texier there that should immediately help that situation at a minimum.
Right now that's the biggest true issue with CBJ and their centers. None of their centers outside Roslovic had a good neutral zone presence but he also is so inconsistent and makes terrible hockey IQ plays is why we had such an abysmal offense this year on top of the defense couldn't get the puck out of their zone. If we get a new center their biggest attribute will be their neutral zone driving.

Nobody would know that pitfall better than a Buffalo fan. The moves he's made so far are to shore up glaring vacancies because he learned from last season. You can't just throw a team of all kids into the league with no guidance (Larsen wasn't a hockey terrorist, but he was a terrible coach). You have to have veterans to shield them. Columbus has had five first round picks since 2021 (Johnson, Sillinger, Ceulemans, Jiricek, Mateychuk) plus 3OA this year. They've got the high end pool now so trading this year's 22OA was a cost that could be borne to get a veteran in place on the left side so the team wasn't depending on Berni, Svozil, etc. for critical minutes. You can't stay in the accumulation phase forever.

Fantilli plays a more "powerful" game and is the best skater in the draft (yes even better than Bedard in that aspect)
Carlsson is obviously an amazing prospect, but there is uncertainty around him being a centre at the NHL level, he may be further along defensively but the Ducks have the best defensive prospect pool in the league and Fantilli has better offensive tools imo
Theres no wrong choice between the two, but given their strengths and play styles, Fantilli is a better fit to me for ANA
"Centre with size" is a pretty poor descriptor of these two</div></div>
Carlsson was the youngest center to ever play for Sweden at the WC. There’s no doubt he’s a center

danault facilitating a three-way trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuckLuck_77</b></div><div>This is certainly something different and has some thought put into it.
But I sincerely doubt that Danault waives his NMC for Columbus, and I don't think PLD for Danault is what the Kings want to do for the way they play the game. LA lives off of their defensive forwards, and Danault has been the only one that's been able to consistently hold McDavid at least on Earth when he's not paired with Draisaitl. Kopitar, through no fault of his own since age waits for no man, can't keep up with McDavid. And I don't trust PLD to be the guy that goes against 97 in a long series. Not at all.</div></div>
danault's NMC would definitely be the biggest hurdle. as for your other points, i don't disagree at all, but i think the appeal is more medium/long-term than short-term. being able to roll kopitar-pld-byfield down the middle would be absurd, and a pld-byfield duo after kopitar retires would be nasty to face in the playoffs.

It's incredibly unlikely Anaheim moves Terry unless a RW of equivalent ceiling is coming back the other way given the lack of depth in the organization there.
Yeah, his age doesn't line up perfectly, but we will need veterans during our competition window, and if we loose Terry then we have to sign an older RW in UFA, and the current UFA options frankly suck.

Boqvist to Caufield righty to righty is pretty dangerous though. The spin of the puck makes 1 timers come off really clean. Think Hughes wants to try other dmen though, Xhekaj, Guhle and Barron, only Guhle got very little time on pp, but the other 2 def had some time on there.
Hutson prob signs a elc after his season in 23-24 is done, to burn a year, def some things to improve still.

I trade Boqvist to MTL because he's a PP1 QB and CBJ are fine with Werenski there until Jiricek (who did most of his production in the AHL on the PP) is ready.</div></div>
Ceulemans would be my target rather than Boqvist, Hutson on LD is the future pp qb, habs need rd, ik that Ceulemans has decent potential, as in a top 4 RD. habs have Engstrom and Harris and Struble that are all LD,but the untouchable LDs are Guhle, Hutson and Xhekaj. I do t think anyone believed 3OA for Lindholm straight up. I'm pretty sure the author said it would need to be Lindholm + another asset I mean, it's possible ( dumb trades do happen) but the value on draft day is never quite equivalent to reality.
It's far more likely to be a Package of the 22nd and a prospect and a roster player. (Just not this package). He is more productive on a ppg level than Horvat and a selke finalist. Teams have very little risk with Lindholm which makes him easy to sell, but hard to replace.
Columbus will need to find a center upgrade so they don't waste 3 years of their prime contract years waiting for their 3OA to turn into a top line center.

Heads-up to all teams looking to sell their big cap players to the Hawks for a "positive return" back. When a team is up against the cap, it's not just about whether a player has a positive return in a trade - it's about clearing space, too.
Chicago fans have lived it. We know it hurts. I keep saying it... Do you think we (Chicago) made the Bickell trade to comply with the cap - by "throwing in" Teravainen - because Teravainen had no value? Of course not. We did it because WE HAD TO.
A player having a positive value "should" generate a positive return in a trade, of course. But being up against the cap changes that calculation. Generating cap space is also a "positive return"! There aren't a ton of teams this year with a LOT of cap space looking to get whatever they can for the cap floor. (The Hawks won't have a problem with the floor.)
Be prepared. We know it hurts. We lived knowing how CRITICAL cap space is, and we're going to ensure we get the most from ours in any trades. We're not going to throw around cap relief willy-nilly, simply because we can.
