with the cap space
Stars can't afford to resign Stanley without waiving him and he doesn't fill a need. Unlikely they trade away a younger player simply for the sake of trading him away.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JTrades</b></div><div>I have been curious about what Dallas has been doing with him. What is his cost and do you think they would trade him?</div></div>
He was our second best defenseman in the playoffs despite some growing pains and will likely play top 4 minutes this year with a chance to run PP2. As a seamless skater with size who is excellent in transition and also cost controlled he's essentially untouchable unless you're really willing to overpay for him.

deadline moves
As much as I love the Demelo fit I have a hard time thinking that Nill would break up the Finnish mafia, especially since we don't have the cap space for it to go through. Now if you could talk Suter into waiving his NMC instead...

Yeah CGY may have to add a late pick to make it go through. I needed to clear up cap space which I guess could also happen simply by waiving Vladar.

Wedgewood is a good enough goalie when healthy so I'm not sure I like this move from Dallas' perspective, would rather see us sign Halak and have him be around for callups when injuries occur.

I don't see Dallas making that trade because Faksa is their best penalty killer outside their top 6 and plays valuable minutes off the bench. Our scoring is already strong enough to not justify adding Scheifele at that cost. It is a lateral move at best which is not worth giving up all those assets.

Scheifele at the deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ducky10</b></div><div>lol, Ok big boy. Is this whole ACGM site not made up contrived circumstances. smh</div></div>
I guess it is because of people like you. ACGM is about discussing with a community whether certain moves would work and/or be viable. Obviously many of these moves have stated or implied circumstances, such as Winnipeg being sellers in this case. Personally I think it’s reasonable that they would be sellers and moving Scheif as they don’t have a sure fire playoff squad and he’s a UFA with little intentions to resign. Feel free to argue these points to your hearts content, but being condescending and rude while only using points that have merit by rejecting the implied premise of the post just makes you come across as a sad and lonely man with unresolved problems you’re projecting onto everyone here.

Scheifele at the deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ducky10</b></div><div>My dude, its quite rudimentary actually. Allow me to enlighten you, its in fact quite common. Lets say the Jets are comfortably third or even second in the central at the trade deadline and the package offered here is the absolute best offer they receive (it for sure wont be though). If they were to trade away the players, in this case Scheifele and Hellebuyck for pennies on the dollar as suggested here, they would undoubtedly falter and likely miss the playoffs losing a chance at a playoff run and millions of dollars in revenue for the franchise. I have heard this referred to as 'internal rentals'. This is a far better "strategy" then making a trade which does absolutely nothing positive for the team anytime soon! The Vegas 1st rounder will be a late first that even if it hits wont contribute for 3-5 years. SO yes, there is greater value to the franchise and the city of Winnipeg to hold onto these assets and allow them to become Unrestricted Free agents which they have both earned that opportunity. With that the Jets now have 12.3 million in extra cap space. or they resign one or both because the market is tepid and there will be A LOT of UFA's next off season.
Too many big words here for you, sorry.</div></div>
So what if you are far away from a wild card spot? Bro’s gotta make up contrived circumstances and flex his subscription to Thesaurus.com to feel competent.

Opening Night
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gretzkyghosts</b></div><div>Excellent, better than many Sabre fans.
Definitely like how you paired LHD with RHD.
We will see how Granato wants to build the team but you are correct to keep at least two of the defensemen.
Comrie may be lost to the waiver wire as the Sabres can only carry 23 players, maybe he gets <em>injured</em> in the preseason LOL.</div></div>
They can likely send any of the extra D or Comrie down without being claimed due to their cap hit. I think they will try to balance the minutes more so one of Dahlin, Power and Samuelsson is on the ice at all times and maybe double shift Dahlin with Samuelsson in the last minute of every period. But they would have likely made the playoffs last year with a few more games of Levi and if Samuelsson did not miss time.
For the goaltending I think they will run that trio again with Levi's minutes being managed. A slightly better defensive environment should help UPL and Comrie reach league average as they get used to the team's defensive structure (or lack thereof) and can better anticipate the chances that will be given up, even if they are high danger.

barron will prob get a slight bit more term and money and he’ll play on the wing, namestnikov played C well last season. im wondering if kupari starts with the Moose but eventually takes someone’s spot like AJF
i also want to see a healthy, full year of ehlers on top line and iafallo is better suited to the third line with lowry
D lines, PP 1 look good
idk how much time iafallo got on LA’s PP but lowry has played often on the 2nd unit
id put demelo on PK1 and swap out schmidt for samberg, otherwise also looks good</div></div>
I originally had Iafallo and Nino swapped but then remembered your coach is Rick Bowness so the only chance you have of an elite talent like Ehlers playing more than 16 minutes is if he is with an elite defensive forward, such as Iafallo.

The arbitrator often sides with the player in terms of AAV and only gives you a one year deal. For those reasons the player typically has more of a benefit from arbitration compared to the team when it comes to arbitration.

He has arbitration rights and is coming off an excellent 20 + goal season while being the main piece coming back in the PLD trade. He has all the leverage and you will probably have to overpay to get him to stay long-term. You don't want to sign him short-term since you run the risk of the PLD situation happening again which is why y'all went out of your way to trade for contract controlled players.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tennisman142</b></div><div>EKholm plays with a better partner in Bouchard and they also have Nurse on the other pair. Sanheim also never played against the top competition on the flyers and that was left to Provorov and now York takes those responsibilities. Pulock has Pelech and Dobson with him. Weegar on Florida had Ekblad playing with him and now on the Flames has Hanafin, Andersson, and Tanev. Morrisey is the one who has doing very well and is not getting caved in and that's why he is a #1D. He also signed a longterm contract a couple years ago and that's why his cap hit is lower. Petry also doesn't paly against the top competition as Letang does that. Parayko plays with Nick Leddy and has Krug and Faulk as the 2nd pair. All 3 of those defensemen are worse than Hanafin, Andersson, Dobson, Pelech, Ekblad, Letang</div></div>
Weegar took the difficult assignments away from Ekblad, Ekholm did the same for Josi, Petry shared the burden with Weber in Montreal but also took many of the difficult minutes. Parayko’s best comp is probably Scott Mayfield (except Mayfield performed excellently next to Leddy). Parayko is a fine player on the ice, but overpaid by roughly 2.5M for the next 7 years and he will only get worse. Unless a team is willing to overpay him by that much for the next 7 years, he has negative value because he represents an opportunity cost. We can agree to disagree on if St Louis actually wants to trade him (despite all the rumours), they will almost certainly have to pay a premium (or retain which is unlikely since they want to compete themselves) if they are to move him. Ultimately, if they see a championship window and a better and/or cheaper replacement for his minutes, the cost is not that hard to swallow. Zach Dean doesn’t forecast as anything more than a middle six player, those are relatively abundant

I mean Parayko cap hit is tied for 29th overall with 5 others and is slightly ahead of other players like Ekholm, Sanheim, Severson, Pulock, Petry, Weegar, Morrisey, etc... With the cap rising and new RFA that need to be paid, Pesce, Dahlin, Hanafin, etc... his cap hit will become even lower overall</div></div>
Every player you mentioned as a comp leads their team in ice time against the top competition without getting caved in with the lone exceptions of Severson (he might this year tho) and Petry (he used to but is old and washed up)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tennisman142</b></div><div>But they aren't playing similar roles. The usage category is very clear about this. One is in the 92nd percentile of hardest minutes/role/quality of teammates and the other is in the 37th percentile of the same category. I've looked at Moneypuck, naturalstattrick, hockey reference, and Dom's model and they all have Pesce playing a more 50/50 role of Ozone starts to Dzone starts while some of the models have Pesce having more offensive zone starts than Dzone starts. Parayko on the other hand is getting handed very defensively skewed minutes because we have to shelter the 2nd pair of Krug and Faulk. My whole argument is Parayko is a 2nd pairing D who is being played in harder minutes than he has ever before. He's being played as if he is a top 5D in the league and he is simply being overwhelmed because of that. Put him on the 2nd pair like he used to be in 2015-2019 and he'll play much better. He was the best defensive defensemen on the blues from 2016-2019 and allowed Pietrangelo to play in a more offensive role. Putting Pesce in the spot Parayko is in and he will crumble the same way playing harder minutes than he has every played with a way worse partner and not having Slavin to play in front of him. I'm not saying Parayko is better than Pesce, I think Pesce is slightly better than Parayko but he isn't miles ahead of him and certainly the worth is not a boluc plus a 20241st better than him.</div></div>
I mean Parayko might not be as bad as he looks given his deployment, but he’s being paid like a number 1 which is the whole problem. With Pesce you can replace his minutes for a player who is marginally better and save 2.5M in cap space to improve your team for when he’s not on the ice (you know, what you’ve said the whole problem is)

Everyone probably keeps trying to "help" the Blues because its been one of the league's worst kept secret that Armstrong is shopping everyone on your D core older than 26 to free up cap flexibility. But lets change it to Faulk if that will make you happy, makes no difference to me really.

Parayko has negative value and is going to cost Dean at the very least to dump his contract. Included in the price of EK65 is the salary retention of $2.5M which is probably at least a second.
So is Karlsson worth 2 firsts, a second, and Morrow? Maybe that is a little high but the picks belong to Carolina so they are effectively two 30OA picks and one 60OA pick and when you look at it that way... is that enough for a 100pt Dman?
