Oil 21 Thoughts
Very good insight. I like what you did here and think this would make the team much better. This gives Holloway and Broberg a year to ripen in the AHL.

Oilers 2021-2022 Not actual Cap Hell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheGreatBigMac</b></div><div>Yes things are easing up but with this lineup Oil still need money to resign Nurse, Bear, and Jesse in 2022, which will be at least $4M more. The only cap relief is a Neal Buyout.</div></div>
A Neal buyout isn't exactly "cap relief". Oilers would have $4.2mill in cap penalties till 2023, and an extra $1.91mill in penalties till 2025 with a Neal buyout added to our current buyout and retention penalties. Only 1 playoff team this year has more than our hypothetical $4.2mill in penalties, Montreal with $4.3mill in penalties, which becomes only $1.9mill next year. I think it's absolutely ridiculous to add another $2mill to our current penalties with a Neal buyout. Teams don't succeed with $4.2mill in penalties. We'll continue to have an awful bottom 6, and get nowhere. I would much rather hold onto Neal and unload him in a TDL move in his 2nd last, or final year to make the money work, it would cost extra picks but is entirely worth it. We're supposed to be winning cups with McDavid and Drai, not get anchored down by more cap penalties

But dedicating $4.5M x 7 for a guy who can't play a checking role?
But you're distracting us from your other really bad move: Bear+Benson for Connor Brown. That's a MASSIVE overpay.

Hall and Hamilton
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>newmy</b></div><div>Hamilton not elite? My man, you need to look into some advanced stats on all of these players before making claims like that. Hamilton is ,quite literally, one of the best defensmen in the league. He is, literally, elite ad defending and moving the puck. He will, at least, command a similar contract to Pietrangelo.
With regards to Hall, I’ve already agreed numerous times that there are other options available for lesser $$ and term.</div></div>
The more I consider it, the more I think Hamilton makes sense. We have a surprising amount of cap space. PP1 could be: Hamilton, Bouch, Drai, McD, (Pulju/Yamo/Nuge). Might not be a realistic signing, but could work potentially. Might need to dump Neal in his final year to ensure we have cap to resign Bear, Nurse, Pulju. It definitely cuts things pretty close, doubt we take the gamble anyways

I meant to say we extend Nuge my bad forgot to put that in there. Guys that we clearly have no interest in resigning have no reason to accept Seattle's offer immediately, it's in their best interest to see what they can get paid in free agency

Here's how I'd do it
Assuming we: trade Jones, waive/trade Stalock, Klefbom is out for good or ruled ineligible for expansion: Protect 7/3/1: Nuge, Leon, McD, Pulju, Yamo, Jujhar, Archibald, Nurse, Bear, Lagesson, Skinner.
Available (under contract): Neal, Kassian, K. Russell, Turris
RFA rights available: Benson, Marody, Kahun
Pending UFA's: Larsson, Nuge, Barrie, Ennis, Chiassion
I assume all of our pending UFA's either want to test free agency before deciding on a contract, or extend with us. Benson, Kahun and Marody's RFA rights are essentially worthless, they are basically UFA's as well. Last summer Buffalo didn't even match the Oilers 975k offer on Kahun, and he's been worse this year. My guess is one of the guys under contract gets taken, probably Turris? Maybe they work out a deal to take Neal because we have nothing good to give them
If Klefbom returns (which is unlikely because it sounds like he's getting a shoulder replacement from what I've heard), we should resign Nuge after expansion and this plan essentially stays the same with the exception that Kharia is made available. If he wants to stay an Oiler he just tells Seattle he won't sign there. His RFA rights aren't worth anything either. I assume he wants to stay an Oiler so it doesn't effect anything

Hall and Hamilton
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>newmy</b></div><div><em>Zero</em> incentive?
Neal is a serviceable NHL player and only has two years left. Seattle won’t be able to pull off the same success as Vegas did and likely won’t be competitive for at least two+ years. Their focus is going to be on building up a pipeline of prospects. They’ll also likely need some hefty short term contracts to help hit the salary floor... Neal is an NHL player who helps them get to the salary floor and bridges them for two years when he can be replaced by prospects. Finally, a mid-first round pick is a damn good incentive to take on Neal, who, like I explained, helps them already achieve some of their other goals. I wouldn’t say that’s <em>zero</em> incentive.</div></div>
Exactly. And assuming we trade Jones, they'll likely only have Turris, Neal, Russell, Kassian to choose from. Unless one of our pending free agents signs with them at expansion which is unlikely
Between those 4 choices, why wouldn't they just take a 1st and Neal. We have 0 value besides that to offer

Best Lines they can make
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skyraider112</b></div><div>I have watched Kassian and the Oilers quite a lot actually. IMO though Ennis is a much better player to have alongside McDavid than Kassian is. I have heard that Kahun will play with Drai, so I figured Nuge would be with McDavid. I agree though that Nuge-Drai-Yama was the best line in hockey last season, I'd like to see them together again. Barrie won't be a 3rd pair D man, he needs top 4 time. Nurse-Bear pairing was good but too many mistakes, that's why I give Nurse and pretty steady guy like Larsson and put Bear with the surprisingly consistent and composed Jones</div></div>
- Ennis is a LW, Kassian is a RW. It's not an Either/Or situation, as I mentioned above. Ennis is competing with Kahun and Nugent-Hopkins for a top-6 LW spot.
- Probably Kahun will start TC with Draisaitl, but having them together is not a given.
- Barrie needs sheltered / offensive minutes, he can't handle Elite competition. Every NHL coach knows this. Playing bottom pairing doesn't necessarily reflect on his overall minutes.
- Nurse-Larsson was tried and it didn't work. Nurse-Bear worked very well in the second half of the year... 1st pairing is hard and its unreasonable to expect a rookie to excel in those minutes right away. Look at their results from January 1st onwards and you'll see what I mean. Tippett won't split them.

Best Lines they can make
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skyraider112</b></div><div>If this team actually wants to compete every night, they need to play their skilled players over their rough-and-tough goons. Ennis played marvelously with McDavid and is a much better player than Kassian. Maybe Kassian would play over Chiasson you are right. Archibald was low-key Edmonton's 5th best forward last year.</div></div>
You should watch Kassian, he has great hand and is a very good skater. When he's "on" he's the perfect complimentary winger for McDavid. Kahun or Ennis could play on the left side of McDavid because Nuge - Draisaitl - Yamamoto was the #1 line in the entire league last year, so if you're out to find the perfect lines that's 100% where you start.
One of Ennis/Kahun on the 3rd line with Turris and Puljujarvi seems reasonable. Then likely Neal and Chiasson on the 4th with Khaira or Haas in the middle - maybe Archibald wins some 4RW time from Chiasson, but his impact wasn't great last year so it's hard to put him there right off the hop.
And your D pairings are off: Nurse-Bear is a given for the 1st pairing, after that it's a little hard to foretell but Jones-Larsson played well together when Klefbom was out last year so I could see them starting together. That makes Russell-Barrie your 3rd pairing which seems about right.

I like the depth on forward although I'm still trying to figure out who the "top 9" are. I'd be hesitant to get rid of Chaisson before we see Puljujarvi back in NA

Oil 21 Opening night roster with Duclair and Crawford
Yep, now that Crawford is out there, I think this is the best general plan, my Markstrom thoughts are scrapped lol. Either Crawford or Greiss would be great. Pulju can play with Koivu if he struggles. Only thing I would try for is Lagesson at only 700k, like all other fringe players are getting, and trying to squeeze Ennis in at about 1.5 mil as a 3rd line option.

Sergachev holtby
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cody_tugak</b></div><div>Broberg is completely untouchable, as well as Bouchard, Samorukov should be too, but of it was for Sergachev, so be that trade, I love the future defenceman we have, I think it makes most sense if we keep them all, especially the big three prospects we have in that department, what I'd like to see in the 2021/2022 season is:
Nurse/Bouchard
Broberg/Bear
Samorukov/possibly a shutdown defenceman from FA or a Russian right handed defenceman, not Zaitsev though
And if we could get Askarov at 14 this Tuesday, it would also be nice to see Askarov and Konovalov sharing the net in a couple of years</div></div>
To me jones is much more valuable than samorukov you could play him at 2nd pair right now beside bear. In 2021-22 I’d ideally like to see a pairings of: Sergachev or other true 1D/ larsson. Jones/bear. Broberg/Bouchard If we find a true 1D I think we lose nurse in the expansion or trade him due to contract dispute and trade Klefbom if we still have jones or nurse and a 1D and he himself isn’t taken in the expansion.

Put Jones in the top 4. He was very underrated this year. My forward lines would be RNH-McDavid-JP, AA-Drai-Yamo, Neal-3c(instead of resigning Ennis)-Kassian, Haas-Khaira-Archibald and then have nygard and russel scratched and trade chiasson.

PULJU
Let me tell you something. As a Finn, I've witnessed Puljujärvi play for quite some time. He has the IQ of a pigeon and doesn't fit the fast paced NHL style of play. He'll make a decent career over here in Finland, but that's it. Kekäläinen knew all this back at the draft in 2016.

But Tampa will probably not do that; gourde, segachev, for klefbom, prospect, and 1 and 3rd. Segachev:klefbom, 1st
Gourde:prospect,3rd round.
The segachev is good but not gourde

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>newmy</b></div><div>How would you alter the trade? I'm not quite sure of the value of Sergachev and Gourde...</div></div>
Gourde's contract brings his value down. He was/is effective in a checking role but not a $5.17M player. So I see your trade as the 2021 3rd for him and the rest for Sergachev, which is a lot. Not quite sure what is Samorukov's value/potential but if he becomes a good top6 D, a 1st and Klefbom is a lot for Sergachev. Klefbom isn't elite but he is great as well. I would do Klefbom+3rd or maybe late 2nd. Tampa doesn't have much flexibility; don't let them win a trade.
