Get Hard
Wilson is not going anywhere. The Caps have no room for Nylander and honestly they will look to get younger under Carberry...bring in some developing talent. Not take on others expensive projects.

No one is getting Tom Wilson. He wants to stay in DC, the team wants him, and he's going to be back to health and top line. Anyone that says otherwise is highly misinformed.

Cap Space is an asset
Why would the Caps trade Mantha and 2 picks for nothing. They could waive him, bury the salary (he's UFA end of next season), or more likely buy him out and pay less than the cap hit over 2 seasons (in effect almost like retaining salary...) all that and NOT lose two draft picks for vapor.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Icedragon4405</b></div><div>The McMichael trade is awful why would u trade a top prospect for a pick</div></div>
The Capitals have done zero to develop him. With Strome signed long term, and Lapierre having passed Mikey on the depth charts, it seems like McMichael really has no lane to get ice time. So picks to shed Mantha and McMichael would be wiser. Right now at C, the Caps have - Kuzy, Backstrom, Strome, Dowd, Lapierre, Protas (natural C not W), Craig Smith (UFA), Malenstyn plays C also...
So where does he fit in?

the final move
All you Leafs homers are delusional on Wilson. He is not being traded...period. And it's hilarious how he gets no respect, everyone thinks he's a garbage guy...but 31 NHL GMs would cut off their right arms to get him. Wilson isnt moving...

Its in a Leafs-centric ACGM...so that is redundant...i.e. Tom Wilson for a 4th rounder and a non-roster prospect (pukes in my mouth)

Strome just extended in DC. He really fits in well w/ WSH. No way he's leaving DC for a mid-round pick and your unwanted spare parts.

I do not think the Caps move Dowd. The other two will definitely not be in DC next year unless Jensen signs a long term value deal.

Plenty of Russian players in the NHL all cronies of Putin for the sake of their loved ones.
Sure Wilson is a pariah to all of hockey, but good to know you guys would pay a 1st round pick and more for that awful human being that 31 other teams would cut off their left arm to get...btw he's a good player, great locker room guy, and gets a bad rap...so def not an awful guy.

That could be 2 1st round picks and Caps say no. He's the next Captain when Ovi retires...and core to the locker room.

Kuzy is only likely trade "value". Wilson is a future Captain and not in play. All the others closer to retirement...Carlson a wildcard. You never know with him.

Would you call it a re-build if you don't re-sign Sheary, Smith, Irwin, let Hags expire (on LTIR), no plan to try again w/ Connor Brown and restock with Iorio and another prospect D down the road? Or does rebuild imply shed Oshie sooner, and others are not long term like Snively, etc?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yojimbo</b></div><div>No to Greiss, especially at that contract.</div></div>
TOTALLY AGREE. And you're better off dumping Jensen first...deal w/ Panik and forward depth later...the real problem is mistakes on D. Gudas and Jensen have shown they can't be consistent and effective.

2020 fall with 88 mill cap
1) You do not need Shatty, especially at $2M...better off w/ stop gap one year of Mike Green even as a $1M-$1.5M 7th D swan song guy...
2) You don't need Hoffman, you are under-selling Boyd and Sprong as bottom 6 difference makers. Hoffman is an overpay that will never happen
3) Oshie is not going anywhere...insider knowledge here, but the Caps brass love him, the city loves him, the locker room loves him...he has evolved into everything they got from Knuble and more, plus Oshie has expressed the desire to mentor with some of the associate coaching staff and will stay in DC, and after his playing days be an Orpik-style coaching pipeline guy. Plus he still can contribute if he's healthy throughout the remainder of his deal.
4) Fix the defense...especially the right side. I'm olay parting w/ Gudas and Jensen, they make way too many mistakes.
5) Get a real 3RHD...Carlson...blank....Siegs....depth...don't force Fehervary to develop on his weak side.
6) I'm fine with Dillon, Orlov, Fehervary, Alexeyev, and maybe even LucasJo working the Left. Any combination of those guys is talented and serviceable.
7) Veteran goalie is a good idea. Wish the Caps could bring back Halak affordably, or a Mike Smith type guy. Lehner is too pricey and some others are too inconsistent/unproven (ie Subban, etc)
8) The cap won't be $88M...just saying, I think $85 is the real most-likely top end.

Summer Work to be Done
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rayquaza649</b></div><div>I personally disagree with re-signing Gudas, I feel like that money could (and imo should) be spent on retaining Dillon, if he continues to play as good as he is now. Other than that and McMichael probably being on the team like said before this makes sense to me</div></div>
Either / Or I guess but not both. My point is that Dillon has played a little reckless in his few games, and Gudas has had decent streaks. Plus if the Caps spin off Jensen to some other team (please) they'll need RHD like Gudas or guys that can play the right side like Siegs...they have a TON of LHD in the pipeline. LucasJo, Alexeyev, Fehervary...etc.
