A Better Use of Cap Space
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Chigurrhh</b></div><div>Funny enough, Johnson's best assets are his skating and passing ability. He's always been more offensively oriented and lacking in defensive positioning and awareness. He will also be much older, worse at every aspect of the game and only 1.5 million dollars less expensive.
Faulk would give them three pairings with offensively skilled player and one that can play more conservatively and cover for their pinches. Also allows for more evenly balanced minutes (JR wants Letang to play less). Sure, he won't get PP1 time but so what? His overall point total would be lower but the team would still benefit from having him on the team. Faulk is basically an upgrade of Jack Johnson as a player for two years of this cup window and without the risks of signing a declining 31-year old to a long-term deal.
Are you suggesting that it would be a bad thing to have threat to score on each defensive pairing?</div></div>
I'm suggesting those asset's would be better spent making an upgrade elsewhere. Specifically a good LD to play 2nd or 3rd pairing. Oleksiak already prefers to play on the right, and will likely be the RD on the third pairing.
Of course it would be nice to have a guy like Faulk on the 3rd pairing, but giving the minutes you can offer him, is it worth offering a 1st and Jarry? No, not when you can fill that spot in FA for nothing.

Is it really though? JJ isn't the best defenseman out there, but there is 0 reason for Pittsburgh to acquire another offensive oriented RHD. Faulk would have to play 3rd pairing minutes. He's not getting time on the PP over Letang and Schultz.

I think you have to start looking at the fact that its been nearly 15 years since Tampa won the cup, despite a 5 or so year run as a favorite (minus the year with the injuries).

Lol overpay?
A cap dump in Hagelin, a fringe NHLer in Simon, and a 3rd is overpaying for Max Domi? Yeah okay.
That Hanifin deal happens in your dreams. Hanifin was picked at 3rd overall in his draft... They aren't moving him for a pick that's going to likely be in the bottom 10 and Sheary.

Why the Nurse for Maatta swap?
With the Maatta retention and Nurse's contract, we go from filling our 2nd pairing left D for about $4million to about $6million. Nurse isn't much of an upgrade over Maatta.

What 16 teams will make the playoffs next year 2019
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DoctorBreakfast</b></div><div>Well obviously no one plans for a lockout to happen, but that's when either the NHLPA or the owners can opt out of the current CBA. And then two years later is when it actually expires. Based on how the last two labor negotiations have gone, don't be surprised if we lose part, or all, of the season.
If you look at some of the recently signed long-term contracts, (Jack Eichel for example: <a href="https://capfriendly.com/players/jack-eichel">https://capfriendly.com/players/jack-eichel</a>) you'll notice that a lot of players have much more signing bonus than salary in the 20-21 and the 22-23 seasons. That's because those are the projected lockout years. Players get their signing bonuses regardless of if there's a season, as opposed to base salary.</div></div>
The 20-21 year wild card is going to be Seattle. I can't see the league letting there be a lockout during the 1st/2nd year of a brand new team that paid 500 mill to join the league. Bad optics.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>krakowitz</b></div><div>He really didn't have any time to react. That's just one of those unfortunate hockey plays where a guy gets hurt. Nobody is to blame for that incident.</div></div>
Then Wilson must have some pretty crappy luck, since this the third time he's had one of those "unfortunate" hockey plays.
By the rule, some of these hits aren't necessarily illegal. But Wilson goes into those hits with the worst intentions. No other way to explain how often he ends up getting the head on his hits, and literally no one else in the league is having repeated issues like this.
For context, I think the rule should be changed to match the IIHF's rule on hits to the head. No such thing as a clean head hit. 2 minute penalty anytime it happens. Only way to get these kind of "unfortunate" plays out of the league.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>krakowitz</b></div><div>There was absolutely nothing wrong with the Dumoulin hit. Anyone who thinks that hit was suspension worthy needs to study up. Wilson made zero intent to hit Dumoulin in the head, Dumoulin was the one that turned into the hit. The Wennberg hit was clean. Just because it was a heavy hit that resulted in injury doesn't make it suspension worthy.</div></div>
And Wilson doesn't followthrough the Dumo hit with a shoulder lift, even though he can clearly see he's hitting directly on the head?
I can buy the argument that Wilson didn't target the head, but he certainly didn't pull off his hit either. Suspension worthy? Maybe not, but still a crappy play for a guy to make.

Regardless of what team you're a fan of, there is nothing okay with the the way Tom Wilson hits.
Even as a Pens fan, Wilson is the only player on the capitals I outright hate. I actually like Ovi and Backstrom a lot. Kuzy is annoying at times, but is a hell of a player. But Wilson is a cheap shot artist that loves throwing these high hits any chance he can. He launches upward through all of his hits, so even if the makes initial contact with the shoulder or body, he makes sure he follows through to the head.
3rd head related injury he has caused in 9 games. That's not an accident. And yes, I know Dumo was cleared of concussion protocol and didn't actually sustain a lasting head injury, but he was still knocked out of the game by a hit to the head.
Glad the NHL finally came to their senses and got this guy off the ice for now.

Update. Aston-Reese has a broken jaw and a concussion.
Now, I'm not a doctor... But it seems to me like you'd have to be hit in the jaw to, y'kno, break your jaw.

Situational refereeing. We see it all the time in the playoffs.
The Pens had just gotten called on 2 separate penalties. Letang was out of the box for like 10 seconds when that happened. The refs swallowed the whistle rather than call another penalty. Unfortunate that it led to a goal against like that, but I mean, Philly completely stopped playing defense as well so...
Letang also got the puck first, although that's supposedly not supposed to matter anymore.

Taylor Hall Selfish
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HawksFan28</b></div><div>Yes, Hall had a career year and you guys are acting like the Oilers just traded Wayne Gretzky again.
Hall isn't going to sniff 100 points again.
IMO, Oilers fans are starting to sound greedy - as if Taylor Hall was worth Erik Karlsson or something.
If It matters, I don't even like the Oilers - I think there is something profoundly wrong with that franchise. I should laugh and agree with you but the truth is that I don't think it was that bad of a trade and without question it was the right thing to do because the Oilers needed a defenseman, I just don't think Hall was the right one to use as bait to acquire one.
IMO, I hope this is a bad deal because that would serve them right for not trading the Yakapov pick for a top 2 defenseman. That drove me nuts, because it was obvious then one of the Oilers immediate needs was a legitimate top 2 defenseman, what did they do? draft another forward - made no damn sense at all. That was just negligence.</div></div>
0.9 PPG wingers don't grow on trees. Hall is easily a top 10 winger in the league.
