Draft strategy, moving up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>clark</b></div><div>but the trade always included roy, a former first rounder to move DOWN one spot. doesn't happen. canes get ripped so much in that deal. it seems to be a theme with habs that can get pick in the teens, a prospect and more for max. sorry completely unrealistic, but hab fans seem to just want to out do one another on such poor trade for any team not named montreal.</div></div>
Ya ya ya clark. we know you have a hard on for Habs fans. No need to show it. :rolleyes

I don't agree with you on Pacc... the value is there, but all teams need to protect themselves with 2019 1st if he goes after and 3rd if he sign... something like that can be added easily but overall... the trade is fair.

MTL/NYI trade at the draft
Veleno is not likely an NHL player next year. And giving up Zadina for him would be a trade we lose on day 1 and year 6.

My summer for the habs
I agree with lavsim96. As someone that follows the Caps Armchair GM posts here, this is the most realistic trade that I have seen involving Orpik. The Caps are going to have to PAY someone to take Orpik. The $5.5M cap hit isn't really the issue, it is the $4.5M actual salary that is the issue. The 2nd is for someone to take that salary.
If Orpik's contract was structured so that the actual salary was less, say $1M, then it wouldn't be an issue to move his cap hit, but his actual salary is going to cost the Caps to get rid of.

You guys are insane. The SwissA league is below AHL-level. I doubt he can succeed at the NHL 4th liner level, let alone at the AHL 2nd liner level.
Yes, even if he did have a good season (checked that out when you mentioned it... Glad he's doing well!)

Five favorite deals for the summer before the lottery
Not sure about the Weber trades... Glass is a great young NHLer ready but taking Clarskon dump (not sure Molson would appreciate that!)
So basically Taking 3 cap dump: Orpik, Clarkson, Martin (15,5M) for Glass & Karlsson... No thanks!
But I like the FLO trade... fair IMO.
With 2 first round pick: No#4= Tkatchuk No#16 Bode Wilde (because no chance to get a good C like Veleno, Whalstrom... otherwise I would have chosen Boqvist No#4)

MTL should rebuilt!! Make your offer for Weber, Petry, Alzner, Price, Pacioretty
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lavsim96</b></div><div>We're not getting anything for Alzner and idk what we can really get for Weber. If he wouldn't have this horrible contract he would have good value but as it stands....</div></div>
Note on Weber: his cap hit is $7.8 for forever, but actual salary is $6M for the next four years, drops to $3M for the fifth year and then is just $1M for the remaining 3 years. He'll probably retire partway through, but for a team like Carolina or Arizona, the big cap hit helps them make the cap floor, but the salary isn't outrageous. Teams like Toronto, Chicago, etc can afford literally any salary number but can't fit him under cap. If you find the right trading partner I'm sure a trade can be done that would benefit both teams.
That said, don't expect a huge return.

Honestly I'm be<em>wild</em>ered as well. On paper, they have all the pieces they need, from the three F positions, to D, to G.
I don't know if coaching IS an issue, but in these instances, that's the first place I'd look into. Not just Boudreau, but the entire unit. Does it have to do with the play style imposed?

Yeah, Subban definitely outplayed Hedman. It is not remotely close.
People claiming that Nashville is the best team in the league forgot about Nashville with Weber being average.

Who deserves the Norris?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>Just to give some narrative as to why it’s PK and not Josi is the way they are used. Josi is primarily used in the offensive zone and against teams second line. PK however is spends almost 80% of his time out against the other teams top offensive line, is used as the teams shut down defenceman and still puts up really good numbers. I think the craziest stat this year by any defenceman was Subban, he started 62% of his shifts in the defensive zone and still had the same offensive out put as elite defenceman should have.</div></div>
Not sure where you're getting your facts, but last year Subban spent 37% of his TOI against elite forwards, while Josi was out against elites 36% of the time. Subban's numbers were better in those minutes.

The typical, BUT with something new!! Trades with LAK, MIN
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lavsim96</b></div><div>Well behind Doughty, the Kings have no good right-handed shot to play top-4 minutes. I believe in the concept of lefties on the left and righties on the right so Prety would bring a much needed top-4 right handed shot to compensate.
They have left handed d-men in: Muzzin, Martinez, Forbort, Fantenberg and Phaneuf. Only other right shot they have is Folin ( if i did not forget any)
i'd be happy to have your input on why Petry wouldn't fit good in LA!
That being said i wouldn't like Weber to be our sole good right-handed shot so i am not willing to give Petry for picks or prospects, he definetly has an important role here in mtl.</div></div>
I 100% agree. I wouldn't trade Petry unless there's a suitable replacement that immediately takes his place. I don't think Juulsen is ready yet. So in this instance, If MTL can't get Dumba, they pretty much have to keep Petry. But I could still see a deal be done for Muzzin with Pacioretty going to other way. LA still needs offense.

Chucky for Dumba i'd do it but not sure the wild would, maybe we need to add a little something to get the value up there.
Andrew Shaw can be traded to any teams for those picks really as long as he shows that he is healthy, he is pretty much useless in MTL at this point.
Bergefail must be happy to see Subban get nominated today for the Norris.</div></div>
I'd agree Dumba for Chucky is a strech, but definitely not unrealistic. and with Dumba needing to resign and Minny with their current cap situation, their could be a fit with MTL.

That's the likely answer right there...Bergevin out the door clears the way for a new GM to right the ship regardless of previous deals. I like Weber but think the Canadiens would do well to sneak away from that contract sooner than later.
