not tanking
I'm not sure how this deal makes sense for Boston. The Bruins need to shed cap and this deal here sees them adding cap.
Coleman = $4.15 million with retention
If Reilly is $3 million, that means they could sign Lauko to up to $1.15 million (which he wont come close to) and be at the same cap as if they did this trade....and they don't have to give up a 1st round pick. On top of that, Coleman is a mid 30pt player getting 15 minutes a night. Lauko played at a 22pt pace this season (without consistent games played) and did it playing under 9 minutes a night.
Help me understand how this deal either A. makes the Bruins a better team or B. sheds cap space

Would require Hawks move another defensemen, and I think it would take more than a 5th, but hawks would entertain the talks.

Pens Move on From Jarry
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brgh4life</b></div><div>Boston has 9.7 mill in space without taking into account performance bonus rollovers. They have to fill 6 forward spots, a defender spot, and the back up goalie. 4.2 for Swayman without bonuses only leaves 5.5 mill for the rest of the roster. That would require every other contract to be league minimum. That's unless they can somehow dump a sizeable contract without taking back cap it's going to be really difficult for them to match any swayman deal.</div></div>
Reilly & Forbrot are $6 million cap hit (combined). Trade them for FC and you get $6 million in space. If you buy them out its a $1 million cap hit for next season and $5 million in added space. Taylor Hall is a $6 million cap hit and has played at a fringe 60pt pace since joining the Bruins. He does have a limited NTC, but doesn't mean he can't be traded. Just in those 3 guys you're looking at $11-$12 million if you took futures back (or nothing for Forbort & Reilly).

No it wouldn't, they'd match and take a hit somewhere else. Likely would be piss poor depth

Hall isn't going to return more than you bought him for, especially considering when you bought you got retention and a depth piece with him.</div></div>
You could debate the return but not base it of his last trade where he was a rental that was struggling. He's a much better player now than he was in Buffalo.

Hall Coyle Grzelcyk cap casualties
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SupremeBone</b></div><div>Coyle is definitely a cap dump. I would be very surprised if anyone was willing to take on his 5.25mil cap hit for 3 more years without getting some assets in return.</div></div>
I wouldn't say a complete cap dump, he's an extremely good puck possession center who would probably be a second line center on 50% of the teams in the NHL and he's having a great year at 30. He'll probably end the year with around 50 points.... Is his contract great? no. But I think there will be a few teams who would be happy to have him.

Going into a season with 30k in cap space is a bold strategy. But Koofy is a bold person. Is 'bold' the right word?

Youth insertion
There’s an ocean of room between, “let’s take a step back,” which is a good thought, and, “let’s torch off assets for absolute trash returns,” which is what you’ve done.
The first three trades are just such hideously bad returns, i honestly can’t believe you hit publish.

3? Didn't know that Grzelcyk is a cap dump. Coyle is overpayed, but, not a cap dump.

Just can’t see them sitting grzelcyk consistently. He’s too good. I think it will be matchup dependent with Forbort and Clifton cycling out. Good problem to have.

Imagine a line of Bertuzzi, Marchand, and Hathaway with Orlov and Clifton on D. They call it the Under You Skin line, drawing penalties every shift. (I know it would never happen and there's no natural C on the line)

He put up 61pts last year and is on pace for 50 pts this year playing a 3rd line role because of how deep Boston is.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>I'd rather keep the picks (or use them on something else) and keep Neighbours and sign a UFA LD.</div></div>
Might be NHL 23 thinking but after moving out Barbashev and maybe a D for good returns, trading for Chychrun and Meier would be a good thing for STL. A good d portion of the core is locked up long term and those 2 would keep them highly competitive.
I’ll admit I don’t watch the Blues but this feels like a bit of a fluke down season more than the turn to a rebuild.
