Hard to call them cap casualties when you just replace them with expensive UFAs.

Coyle is definitely a cap dump. I would be very surprised if anyone was willing to take on his 5.25mil cap hit for 3 more years without getting some assets in return.

This offseason will be just like the last, too many teams trying to off load cap and very few buyers. You will be trading away those players for peanuts if you want to sign Bertuzzi and Orlov. Think the Bjorkstrand trade from last year. A good to great player on a great contract getting traded away for a 3rd and 4th round pick (practically nothing)

I wouldn't say a complete cap dump, he's an extremely good puck possession center who would probably be a second line center on 50% of the teams in the NHL and he's having a great year at 30. He'll probably end the year with around 50 points.... Is his contract great? no. But I think there will be a few teams who would be happy to have him.

You are clueless. After Bergy and Marchy he has been the best 2 way forward on the team. He’s become an elite PK, improved on faceoffs to get over 50%. Drives the 3rd line. Strong as hell on and with the puck. Decent production despite a slump.

They are not moving him anyway.

I bet he does. Bridge deal. If not 1 of the goalies has to go.

Mmm, perhaps I was a tad too definitive and unclear in my statement. My bad. Rather than a cap dump in the sense many use the term, I mean to suggest that his production relative to his cap hit alongside BOS's cap situation and the league-wide cap situation would lead to him being unlikely to return positive value. He may not not require assets to 'dump', but I think the best case scenario is that he wouldn't return meaningful assets. Maybe his size, name recognition, and the fact that he's a R-shot C would balance this out, but I don't think there are a lot of teams that are looking to spend 5.25mil/yr on a 40-45pt (likely) 3C.

Great, I also don't think they should move him. Even if he's had a strong year, there's more of a track record of him not being worth 5.25mil than there is of him being worth that. Given that BOS will need to shed cap and that the overall cap situation across the league is rather tight, I find it hard to imagine he yields a positive return.

If Bergeron and or Krejci don’t retire, giving Coyle the 2nd line center is much more likely than Zacha taking over in that position.
If Bergeron and or Krejci do retire. Hall and Coyle won’t be traded whatsoever because the middle will be weak beyond belief.
Grzelcyk is the only possible option move

As much as I like Bertuzzi there is no way they should or will resign him over Coyle. Plus if Bertuzzi was willing to take 5 x 5 you'd have to think he'd still be in Detroit. That's only $250K more than he's making now.

I would think he'd point to the Spencer knight deal who he will have severely outperformed 3x4.3 I believe

A team may not be willing to take him on but he is every bit a strong 3rd line shutdown center as the likes of Gourde, W. Karlsson, Pageau, Backlund, Danault, Cirelli, JEE, and J. Staal.

2nd line center on 50% of teams? No certainly not. I think he is underrated at what he does but I doubt I could name more than 5 teams he would be a top 6 center on. He wouldn't even play 2nd line center on Anaheim for example

Which would facilitate a trade of one of the goalies. Which he does not want. So i guess it comes down to priorities. 🤷🏻‍♂️
