Caps get Space Blues fill hole at Center
Washington is not trading Strome. And their cap is fine as Backstrom and Oshie are likely done playing hockey, unfortunately. The addition of Mangiapane solidified that.

TyeZerker is 100% correct. No way Devils draft a top defensemen here. They'd get paid a healthy ransom to fill roles they actually need if Dickinson is available at 10.
Also, Blues will not draft another undersized transitional defensemen. They do not fit their system. ie Krug, Perunovich. Devils/Blues could be perfect trade scenario with the way your projected draft is though.

Certainly, the Blues would be interested in Chychrun but you have severely misjudged his trade value. He would go much closer to his value a year ago which was 1st + two 2nds.

Draft 2024 First Round Mock
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TyeZerker</b></div><div>Why would the Devils want an even more of a log jam on D, wouldnt it be better to get more picks instead of being a clueless GM? Teams will trade up if Yak or Buium fall. Devils should not draft a Dman they dont need it.</div></div>
100%. I am wondering if Blues and Devils would interested in making a deal involving Buchnevich/Binnington for 10th/Holtz as main pieces of a blockbuster, especially if Berube is planned to be offered the head coach position.

Utah - St Louis Utah needs some veteran defenseman
This is not it. I believe there will be discussions between the GM's who have worked together in the past. Utah has assets and want to be more competitive, St. Louis wants cap flexibility and an open top 4 dman spot. More likely Faulk is a better candidate for his versatility and leadership capabilities but would also need to be asked to waive his NTC.

Great 2/3 picks for the Blues but zero chance they draft a goalie in the first round, they'd take Bonk instead.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>ASP - pretty sure they'd not pass on Moore to take a smallish offensive D
Price - excellent pick, very likely
Musty - I mean maybe, but I think they'd rather have someone like Bonk</div></div>
Agreed. Blues will take a forward with their top pick and especially target one that has potential to play center. The bottom 2 picks (if they keep both) will be to restock defensemen prospects. Simashev, Price, Bonk, Brzustewicz, Willander all come to mind according to the list available above. Simashev's my choice.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Koskinen_The_Great</b></div><div>How? We saw one trade at last years draft to move up early in 1st at 11OA with Arizona paying a late 1st @27OA and 2 2nds. This draft is too deep to move up and pay such a price.</div></div>
I actually think this is the reason you'll see more move up. Cost (in # of picks) would be less considering how deep the draft is as you pointed out. I can see Detroit going for a RHD, whether in this draft or outside it, they have the cap flexibility and draft capital to make it happen. I can't imagine that make all 5 picks in the top 43...

Testing interest
There is a lot to like here but St. Louis has stated they are not rebuilding. Losing Parayko would leave an even bigger defensive gap, however, I think given the opportunity to move him for a return like this would be very enticing. They would most certainly use assets and this cap space to restructure defensive core to fit the 'retool'.

Adding Cap Space and Grit
Blues will demand a 2nd and mid tier prospect in return for Barbashev, I don't see them sending out a pick without another in return and no reason to move Bortuzzo. Likely minimal interest in Sandin at this point with our log jam of top 4 defense contracts.

OReilly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Element23VM</b></div><div>Not sure it'll take much more than a protected 1st to get O'Reilly. ROR's performance this year is not looking very good.</div></div>
It is a down year for O'Reilly (and the Blues) but he gets the toughest minutes in the NHL. Teams won't be renting him for his offensive prowess but rather his two way play, playoff pedigree and leadership. He'll be your #3 center (maybe #2) and will play against top lines during the playoffs. He'll take key faceoffs and play valuable PK minutes. Teams will depend on him to rally the troops between games, periods and shifts. Not to mention, financially, he'll cost less than 1 mil in actual payout.
Should easily be worth a 1st + mid tier prospect (I like Jakub Demek) but teams will wait until deadline to offer given risk of injury. I would think 2022 Copp and Giroux trades are good examples.

STL - TOR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dutchies</b></div><div>This could be a secondary move, but the Leafs need to aim higher. Jarnkrok has done a serviceable job on the 2nd line wing, but the Leafs need an upgrade for the playoffs</div></div>
You're right, I was picturing this probably as a secondary move for added scoring depth and some physicality. But on the other hand, Toronto's cap situation is becoming very difficult and I don't see them paying for a player that would demand significant salary. Maybe the Blues do a sign and trade in this situation so Toronto is comfortable planning around it. Maybe Toronto goes all in or maybe they do nothing.

Blues - Rangers
Even less than what I was thinking. Most disappointing part is having to include Mikkola to get this return for Tarasenko. Skinner at best could be a 6-7th defensemen, so all the value lies in the 1st round pick.

STL - NYR
*NYR 2023 2nd conditional - If NYR makes it to the Eastern Conference Finals then STL receives NYR 2023 1st.
Tarasenko to NYR makes sense to all parties involved. It is known Tarasenko has waived NTC for NYR, NYI and NJ. NYR needs top scoring RW, Tarasenko is pals with Panarin and STL has basically no chance to resign Tarasenko. Robertson has progressed well since being drafted in 2019, he's a reliable defender and is rumored untouchable...but I think NYR lets him go for the chance to win with Tarasenko's scoring ability and proven playoff record.

This is definitely in the Blues favor. Army will be hoping for a 1st or a promising young player/prospect but not both. To get a 1st and a once promising prospect who needs a change of scenery plus a 6th for salary retention is top dollar.

Army takes this, no questions asked. Rangers will not move any of their young players this season and they do not have cap room to hand out extensions to rentals such as Tarasenko.

Thoughts Too much or too little
Way too much. It would be a dream come true for Armstrong to receive a 1st AND a young player with top 6 potential. Likely he hopes for a 1st or promising prospect/young player for Tarasenko.
