I am a leaf fan... and I would trade Marner for him... but If i were Ottawa, Brady drives that bus like Matthew does in FLA... OTT just has different problems.

If this goes badly, and its going to... and the season ends in the first round... and THEN they were to re-sign Mitch to this deal??? Man... it would be tough to believe in this team.
They need to go Vegas on this and make BIG changes not worrying about people's feelings.

Changes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DanielSan92</b></div><div>Even if he did, Detroit's not taking on an $11M cap rental while Seider and Raymond need new deals.</div></div>
I agree 100% with the cap hit. It would have to be cut in half through another team for the last year. He's a good 2/3C at 6M
And I think if Treliving has the balls I believe he does, I think he will see the need to remove the softness of the team, and build differently. Removing Mitch and JT at those cap hits give a TON of flexibility... and allows you to build around Willy and Matthews. You could back up the truck and give Guentzel 8M and... and Idon't even really like Lindholm but stronger, more rugged performers as the identity.
you just can't have 22M tied up as ghosts in the post season.
And as for JT not waiving... its the NHL. You have a man conversation about the realities and say you've been great, thank you for being the C, but if you don't waive, the C comes off, and you need to accept a lesser role, and quietly make life a little more unglorious for him.

BIG MOVES - TRELIVING
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DangleCat</b></div><div>On the basis that Marner is a rental with full trade protection so if they make the deal and it doesn't work out they flipped all those assets in exchange for an overpaid reaves and mid-tier prospect. I will admit that deal is at the very least interesting and probably closer than I gave credit for...as for the other two the hawks can fill bottom 6 spots without giving up picks and Lili is not worth a 2nd.</div></div>
I think Marner could/would be extended in WSH... other comments are fair... but I think there is a place for those guys in the league somewhere if not Chicago... return is debatable. fair enough

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DangleCat</b></div><div>The hawks obviously shoot that down. We wouldn't take those two contracts for FC.....Also doubt Wash or Utah accept those.</div></div>
on what basis? Especially the WSH one? Getting rid of two aging players for a top teir playmaker who all but assures Ovi gets the record... Backstrom is done. I actually think this deal is VERY risky for the leafs...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>So the Hawks take on $6m in cap hit, plus the 2 extra years of Kampf, and give the Leafs two picks as well? That's the easiest "no thanks" Kyle from Chicago ever uttered.</div></div>
Fair enough... what would you send back? Chicago needs depth reliability, flexibility, and players to surround the kid. They gave Foligno, and Perry $4M last year... they still have a few years left before competing.

Restructure the D
CHychryn becomes a better version of Methot, and Sanderson can grow... and then you just surround the talent with mutants who put out fires... and suddenly your goalie is playing better too... it works

Stay within the age-window of the players currently on the roster and flip Chabot for a nice asset of similar or younger age; 110%!
Not retro-fossils from the Cambrian-age.
PS: Sanderson just left the game, will not return...
Yeah, Chabot's not going anywhere now.</div></div>
guy... they are terrible... it doesnt matter who's injured. They need some veterans to lead.
I would do this deal because chabot is not worth 8M... and EK65 had 100 pts last year and will have 60-75 this year,,, and on OTT he would be great for them.

No way Toronto accepts a 3rd when they traded sanding for a 1st last year. It would be a 1 st at a minimum</div></div>
Very fair point. I was mostly thinking I think he gets dealt as some sort of package in the next year or so. I think they move him and Tre goes after some BIG TIME D in the next two years

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>I really like Samsonov. But yes he would. He has not been playing well this year and his cap hit is 3.55m. very few teams need goaltending. The ones who do, are cap strapped and they need someone who is performing.
Raanta has a 1.5m cap hit and just cleared waivers. Raanta has been bad this year but he has been a good goalie for years.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>arab05</b></div><div>Name a team who would pick him up off waivers?</div></div>
The Raanta result is a very good comparison. The shine and optimism might be off of Samsonov... and that was what I was thinking. He's younger and has shown promise... but I think he is what he is. I bet they put him through waivers though because Jones will have to clear again to go down after 30 days.
