I would also say that Columbus needs to make space on their roster and doing a 2 for 2 doesn't accomplish that.

He couldn't even get 16,000 people (basically a stadium's worth of fans) to vote for the stadium.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ecupirate07</b></div><div>Why would he sign with Columbus instead of Chicago?</div></div>
I think the reasoning would be that he doesn't want to play for a team owned by Wirtz, even if he very eventually caved to the public and let the GM and coach go. Their current GM maybe wasn't there yet but he is also a Bowman protege so . . . ick. I wouldn't want to go there. Jonathan Toews was my favorite player for 18 years and now even I question his integrity/personal courage as a young adult. I use to dream up scenariors for a Toews trade to the Jackets . . . not anymore (and not just because he may be a bit washed at this point).

Ranking Cities Most Likely to get an NHL Team
There are 24 states without a professional team. Of them, the one that plays in an area where hockey is popular, has an almost OK sized market:
Fargo, ND
Fargo-Moorhead/Wahpeton area will have a population of over 300K
They would draw from the Greater Grand Forks area with well over 100K
This doesn't count for all of the smaller towns nearby and even the further away Bismarck/Minot areas with over 200K
Montana and South Dakota do not have pro teams either, the closest professional (US) team from Fargo is 3.5 hours but is hours further for much of the surrounding area. there are 8 connected states without a pro team (though some of them are closer to other teams).
Midcontinent Communications alone serves about 500K people from ND, SD, Western MN, and even Kansas. I think Fargo is on the very bottom edge of market sizes that the NHL has but this would drastically increase their geographical footprint.
Amazon and Microsoft in town along with other professional corps such as Noridian insurance and health providers and Scheels sports
South Dakota with Sanford Health plus all of its dark money as an international tax shelter . . . they can do it financially.
Grand Forks sells out 12K for college hockey so there is no doubt for me that they could pull in around 20 in Fargo for the only pro team in the area.
This is very poorly put together argument because I'm working and trying to leave 2 minutes ago.

Columbus
I think Foudy had a bad year last year, he looked very promising to me for most of his 12 game trial in 19-20. Same with Tex, he looked very promising for his handful of games at the end of 18-19. Didn't take a BIG step like we were hoping in 19-20, then just didn't look like himself at all last year but I am not ready to call it for either of them after a weird year.
Bemstrom to me is still an enigma as well. He has had (only two) uneven years, but he showed out in Finland (and like, the last game of the season). As underwhelming as everything else has been with him, and he didn't get too much ice time, he somehow was a positive player last year. Say what you will about advanced stats vs the eyeball test but somehow coming out positive last year on that team is noteworthy, especially getting defensive zone starts.
All that being said, we have had a bottle neck of bottom six forwards, 13th F's, and 'skilled' prospects not ready for a top line that are given a bottom six role or languish in between for a while. Depending on how we look at the deadline or maybe even earlier, we probably need to free up some roster space.

Yeah, Columbus doesn't do this for a 2nd pair Dman . . . It would have to be for scoring on the left side or like a 2C. Obviously Tavares/Matthews isn't happening. kadri doesn't get it done, Marleau is like 40 . . . would have to be Nylander as Ajp_18 said and would probably want some sort of guarantee or stipulation based on a new contract.

Tough decision for COL
This may have been a tough decision last before the season started but Mackinnon is finally looking like the player that he is supposed to be. With Jost being sent down and moving Duchene, I don't see how Colorado does this. If I am Columbus, I would do it.

If I had to guess...
On our side, I would like to see us taking less money. Duchene's six million plus Comeau's (who we don't really need) 2.4 is a lot when we are only sending an entry level deal and a draft pick the other way. This is one of the reason's I prefer trading Murray over Carlsson (not necessarily because of a perceived talent/potential difference). Your trade leaves us with zero cap space.
Without tearing apart your trade, I would rather see a draft pick back, rather than Comeau.

Possible Duchene deal?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Android_H_Jones</b></div><div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jacketsman61</b></div><div>
If we dealt Carlsson they would not get much else back in return. Sakic has overplayed his hand is soon will be facing the bitter truth of having to deal him for less than he wanted. In this deal Sakic would get three players he could install into his lineup for immediate and long term improvement.</div></div>
Sakic hasn't overplayed his hand. He has Duchene under contract for two more years and the stories of his discontent with the team in the national media is overblown. Sakic can just wait until one of these teams under pressure to make the playoffs finally gains the stones to meet his asking price. And if they don't? This is a lost season anyway. He can wait it out as long as necessary.</div></div>
Well, not as long as necessary, but until NEXT season's trade deadline anyway. However, rental return is probably lower than you'd get for a 2 year or 1.5 year (this years deadline) contract.

This would make them very tight to the cap in 2018 in re-signing Johnson & Atkinson.
Another option would be to trade Atkinson post-season in preparation for the arrival of Kovalchuk back from Russia when his NJ contract expires in 2018.</div></div>
Cam without a contract doesn't have much value after the season is over. If he plays well again, I don't see them letting him go for nothing. That being said, someone isn't coming back in 18-19 which should give us enough space. In this scenario, I would say Jagr is a one and done. We would have to get very creative before 19-20 though.

BLOCKBUSTER
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Claebom</b></div><div>Would never happen. Trade isn't at all good enough for Ottawa, and I'm not sure if it's because Hoffman is being underrated by you, or you just don't know the position Ottawa is in. So here goes.
Hoffman was the 9th highest scoring LW since he joined the league, and is the best forward for the Sens. When he's not it's because he's tied with Turris or Stone at the time. He's their top LW, their best goal scorer and arguably their best contract besides Karlsson that doesn't have to be renewed this year.
Sens don't need an aging LHD on an expiring contract, a 20 point bottom 6er, or a late 1st. That would mean trading from a position of weakness and getting two pieces back where they are already clogged up. They have 6 NHL level LHD (Claesson, Phaneuf, Oduya, Chabot, Borowiecki, Harpur, Englund is close even), a whole ton of bottom 6ers, and only one top 6 LW (since MacArthur is not guaranteed). Those are not good enough pieces, and even if you think they are, they make absolutely zero sense for Ottawa. Maybe a team that needs them would make that move. Ottawa has zero need.
And overpriced 2nd liners? Ottawa overpays one forward, which is Ryan. They pay Turris and Stone 3.5 million each, Hoffman just over 5, and Brassard 5 million. Sounds a lot like the way Columbus pays their top 6.</div></div>
I agree this does not make much sense for Ottawa. Putting a package together that would work for Ottawa probably would not be worth it for Columbus.

Draisatl at 5M is not even going to come close to happening. If Edmonton is going to trade his rights, it's going to be because he won't accept less than like 9. If we trade all of that away, we better know we're going to sign him (or sign and trade) and 5 won't do it.

Is this fair?
I don't think this is terrible as Pacioretty's value is a little more set in stone than . . . however I do not know the reasoning behind making this trade. Trading our "hopeful" center prospect and a very solid winger who can play center for two wingers? Scherbak doesn't have any more value than PLD (probably has less).
So we are giving up possible centers which we want, trading down on our prospect, and swapping a solid solid Boone Jenner (who could very well end up better than Pacioretty) for Pacioretty and a bump up in the draft, and losing cap space? I wouldn't do it.

I don't disagree . . . one of the reasons why trading for Duchene is so tough is that he looks soooooo good, but only 40-59 points and a green jacket make you really question what he will do. To argue the other side, Colorado cannot really be sure what they are getting with Murray, Carlsson or Jenner either. Jenner looks like a beast but has only really had one good season, Murray is up and down and hurt, and Carlsson is just a prospect.

Seems like Columbus is in pretty deep in talks for Duchene. I don't know what other D they'd be willing to give up. I wouldn't be satisfied with Murray as the key piece coming back either but its a starting point. Which is why Columbus includes thier top prospect and another young D. What woukd you want from CBJ?</div></div>
The 6th defenseman (barely third pairing) Murray would be the 3rd defenseman (2nd pair) on Colorado.

Agreed. It will either be a 6 year long term contract or a bridge of 2 or 3 years.</div></div>
My bad, I thought four years bought us a year (or two) of his free agency and didn't want to spend the time to look it up. I do agree that it will be a bridge or buying at least some of his FA years. My thinking with the numbers was the less FA we buy, the lower the AAV will be. I doubt we can go long term and get him for under 5M, but could with a shorter term. We do like bridges but if he tears it up, having to sign him, Panarin, Werenski, and Bob all in short order could get ugly.
