Hurricanes need MAJOR shakeup
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sidsoul88</b></div><div>I agree JVR is going to need more than 5.3. 6-7 mil is what he is looking for. I don't agree that the Canes are dissatisfied with their D - the entire team had a down year and their goalies absolutely lost games for them. Slavin and Hanfin's stats were down and bad but Darling didnt help in that respect.</div></div>
I don’t mean to say that the Hurricanes are presently dissatisfied with their defense, and I certainly don’t mean to suggest that they should move on from Slavin or Hanifin, but in this hypothetical they lose Faulk and try to replace him internally with McKeown. Maybe you disagree, but I don’t think that right side looks like a contender at all.

Flyers/Flames Blockbuster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItWasIn</b></div><div>For Gaudreau AND Hamilton the ask starts at Patrick and Provorov from Calgary
Seems steep but Gaudreau was an 84 point player this season and Hamilton led the NHL in goal scoring from D. Both are still young players on good deals with significant term remaining</div></div>
I hear you, I'm listening - I know the asking price for Gaudreau will be high. That's why this deal includes three NHL-caliber forwards, an NHL-caliber LHD, a first, and a second. And you're right - it may not be enough! But just look at Calgary's situation right now: they just failed to compete in an okay Pacific division because of their shitty depth, and they have a massive dearth of NHL-ready forwards and of early-round picks in the next few years. Moreover, they know that they're dealing from a position of strenght on the back end, with Kylington and Andersson nearly ready and a slew of skilled defenders already in the league. This trade allows them to divest their elite talent in a slew of different players, picks, and prospects so as to let them compete over the next few seasons instead of leaning constantly on Gaudreau and Monahan. I'm not saying that Calgary would definitely accept the trade I've designed, but a 2 for 2 swap doesn't do much to improve either club's situation and I don't think it's the only way a trade could get done.

I really like this build, but I have two big issues with it:
1. JVR is gonna need more than 5.3M after his monster season this year.
2. I love Slavin and Hanifin, but if I'm the Hurricanes, idk if I'm satisfied with this D corps moving forward.

Flyers trade for Pacioretty
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Racer243344</b></div><div>I was going to stop after seeing you re-signed Manning for 4 years, but I had to see how stupid the rest of this is. Flyers aren't trading a first for Paciorretty and they don't need Sutter and his bad contract.</div></div>
Manning's prime years at 1250000 is a great affordable option as a 7th dman. You can easily bury that contract if you find someone better or his play falls off even further than it has.
As for Sutter, I'd agree that they don't like that contract at all, but he solidifies the bottom 6 and you can get out from under the MacDonald and Weise contracts at once with this maneuver, hypothetically (to be clear, this is all hypothetical) creating room for Pacioretty

Flyers trade for Pacioretty
Idk. WPG has Byfuglien and Myers on the right, and they have a lot of skilled young guys to manage under their cap. They let him hold out in the first place because they realize they might not need him in the long run. Not saying they’d definitely move on from him, but Morgan Frost is a really good (and cheap) player, so they might give it a look.

flyers quick retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>epo</b></div><div>Why would we trade our Captain who just had 102 points for a possible non top-ten pick and a 2nd liner?</div></div>
Because he's 30 and the point of this build was to make the Flyers younger, because Galchenyuk has first-line upside, because if Weber, Price, or Giroux got hurt next year that could be a top-5 pick

You're totally right man! That's why on this rebuild Gudas is gone and Manning is the #7 while Sanheim is the #4

flyers trying 2k18 4
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zubrowka</b></div><div>Definitely like targeting Hoffman and/or Ryan, but the cap and term for all these players combined creates big issues in time, as salary cap for future RFAs is tight and 2020 expansion draft protection slots are limited. I'm also not so sure the compensation in these trades moves the needle for Ottawa or Vancouver.
Edit: If I'm Ottawa, I reject out of hand. If I'm Van, I double check my roster and salary commitments and think about it.</div></div>
I don’t think you’re completely wrong but I have to disagree about Ottawa rejecting “out of hand.” Let’s look at the benefits and costs for Ottawa, a team that has publicly stated that they’re prioritizing cap space and who is facing constantly mounting pressure to sign a generational superstar:
1. Cap hit differential clears them 7.5M in space
2. They get a young, second-pairing LHD on this theoretical conservative bridge deal.
3. They get Wayne Simmonds, formerly a preeminent powerplay goal scorer and presently a productive third liner. 1 year remaining before they can let his contract go or trade his rights.
4. A first-round draft pick.
At the cost of:
1. Mike Hoffman (huge)
2. Bobby Ryan’s production over the next four years. What can you hope for, with his consistency struggles and injuries? Second-line production at best?
I just don’t see how that doesn’t come *close* to balancing. Hoffman is great, but the return really is there.

Too much for Carlson. You have Provorov and Ghost as your top 2 pairing. AMac (god help us) as the veteran....The defense should be fine.</div></div>
You don't even like Manning as a #7 for his prime seasons? Damn that's tough

I think they need a better answer than DR at 2C but for the most part I like this build, it invests smart money in the areas that the Hurricanes need to invest in (W, G)

flyera get EK w space to re-sign
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>iheart2fart</b></div><div>This is actually pretty decent.
I would personally eat the Lehtera deal for one more year to save the draft pick.
OTT may want a second- as opposed to third-round pick and a sooner first-rounder.</div></div>
I actually thought about sending MacDonald to Vancouver since it’s a pretty transparent salary cap move anyway, and since you’re right - the Flyers won’t really need the space that year anyway.
As far as those picks, you’re right, but I think the core deal of Frost-Sanheim-Simmonds is something they might actually seriously consider.

In most cases, I’d agree with you, but here they’re shedding four years of a brutal contract while getting plus value for a Karlsson. You could be right, of course, because we all know how Melnyk is, but I think he might be eager enough to get rid of Ryan that he’d pull the trigger here.

tbh we might end up too strapped for cash this way. need money to extend Provy and Sanheim. still a fun looking team though IMO

flyers get dewy
Kings get slower for 1 year and then Simmonds becomes a trade chip and Lehtera’s off the books. They add Simmonds’ value, a LHD with 1st-pairing upside in Sanheim, a first, and a former first-rounder; they also get rid of Lewis, whose production was awful this year.
Not saying they would definitely move Doughty for this return, just saying that the Kings don’t really “get slower” over the long term with this move.
