It’s just a random trade for insurance, don’t have to be Bos, but he’s a guy that’s gonna be able to play 30 games and put up a .900 sv% and around 3 GAA, he’s a very solid backup for cheap, but the pens don’t need him and either way will probably waive him

I’ve just seen Bos fans trading for him on here so I put it out there as a possibility for insurance for him, theyre still in a tough spot to sign him cause you gotta think the absolute floor for him is a short 3 mil deal, and they need to add 3 more FW to the team as well and sign Frederic

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensman69</b></div><div>This is one of the better ones I’ve seen though if you trade Rutta that opens up a world of more possibilities to solidify the D. I’d also take out the Caleb Jones signing and have Smith on the third pair and then a veteran guy to pair with him. Figure with Rutta’s cap hit gone, you’re looking at around $3m to spend at the deadline or to improve the team via trade now since the UFA market has dried up for the most part.
Also that bottom 6 looks considerably weak to my liking, I don’t think that really moves the needle that much at all in terms of depth scoring and more goals, etc. The things we are desperate for.</div></div>
I think the bottom six is going to look weak no matter what rn, that’s why I put Rust in there, that third line will low key be good cause Acciari peppers the net, Rust has great speed and ability to carry the puck, and Suter is a solid 2 way player that can score, you can also put DOC there and bank on a breakout, on the 4th Carter is gonna play cause they love him, and Ekler is a great defensive C that might open it up for Carter the other way a bit and Carter and DOC has a bit of chemistry, I like Jones a lot but wouldn’t mind Smith there, idk if there’s any RHD I like left out there that’s cheaper than Rutta, Rutta was good when healthy too, problem was staying healthy

Ppl are overestimating how much the sharks will get out of the deal I think, but I do think they won’t take on both of Petry and Granlund, and I don’t think they’ll get 2 1s. I think a 1, Granlund and POJ/Smith would get it very close with no Barabanov and 3.5-4.5 mil in retention tho

I think the pens won’t retain cause it’d cost them less to put him in the minors, make the 3 a 5 or 6 and take on his full deal

Those are bad deals for the pens, they need to retain Poulin and Nylander, only move one of Smith or POJ, and Carter said he will only play in Pit so he won’t waive his clause.

I don’t think they’ll get Nylander I just really like him, and want a good player to help the team out, just wanted the third line to look viable lol, also don’t think the pens will move Jake, only players I could see them moving are Granlund, Rust, Petry, DeSmith, Smith, POJ

Gotta try to retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>That was CHI's previous GM and it included Tampa taking back an almost $7M LTIRetired contract. Also, they still thought Johnson had value when they acquired him and he was not a cap dump, and they acquired him with the idea that CHI was still a competitive team. But, Granlund is a pure cap dump at this point, and in all likelihood won't be flippable. Paying $11M and crossing our fingers to MAYBE flip him will cost more. Idk, though. Maybe you are right, and CHI's new gm might see value in him. But I doubt it.</div></div>
Teams actually value taking on LTIR contracts like that, and for TB it was 100% a cap dump and Chi knew that too, Granlund just didn’t fit in pitt, he still put up 41 this year with a pretty abysmal 20 games with the pens and 64 last season, he could be a PP1 and top six guy on a bad team that puts up 50+ and is a trade chip if you retain a bit

Gotta try to retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>herzausstein</b></div><div>Novak was considered to have an outside shot at being a late 1st round pick his draft year but injuries cost him. I think he has the ability to be a 50ish point C long term. His goal scoring will definitely regress some as he isnt a 20% shooting % player. He isnt great at the dot either. Id be open to trading him to be honest but we are fairly set at LHD with Josi, McD (for better or worse he isnt going anywhere), Lauzon at the NHL level. Stastney appears to be a keeper as well and should hopefully be seeing NHL time in the near future. I just dont know where we put POJ. Our NHL d group is crowded</div></div>
Ngl always forget Josi is a LHD lol, my mind automatically thinks he’s a RHD for some reason, my thought process was just maybe they move someone or someone plays their off side, plus they have a bunch of guys injured rn and Novak may be pushed down to 3C anyway, so why not get top 6 value out of him if possible off a 20% s% year, honestly feel like POJ might be worth more than him considering his age and potential

Yea they definitely could, I was hoping they’d take a guy that’s younger and gives them a good LHD for the future and bank on Novak regressing a bit, I’m not sure exactly how highly touted he was but Ik last year he struggled before doing well this season, POJ has a lot of worth to teams too since he’s already proven and is at least a second pair guy on a decent amount of teams

I would be asking for a 1st round pick ALONE just to take Granlund's contract with nothing going back to PIT, though.</div></div>
They took on Tyler Johnson for a similar return, I’d imagine it’d be close to getting it done, I don’t think it’d take a 1st, but maybe rights to a lower pens prospect or another pick but Granlund has just enough history for a team to say, hey if we give him 20 minutes a night we could flip him for even more later

Chychrun is better than any LHD we have for sure, he’s very good and on a cheap deal, and since you have Smith and POJ you can afford to move one to get him and you have Pickering in the next 3 years so that lets you move another LHD then for him, but Chych is really good and a top pair guy rn with potential for more on a better team, POJ might have that potential but rn he’s a bottom 4 guy and probably settles as an ok/good second pair guy, Smith has elite offensive traits which is why I kept him, plus Chych is only like 24 so not like you give up youth at all, he just would be the best defender Letang may have ever paired with

That’s part of the reason I kept the 2023 1st in this and went mostly for guys with term or will be easy to resign, Bjugds would only cost 900k to resign, Barbashev maybe 3mil and valimaki 1-1.5 mil, these moves were meant to be for this year and the next 3, if it doesn’t work from there the oh well

Yea like I said I think McGinn, 2, and like a Judd Caufield can get Barbashev so if it cost more than that for Domi, just go get Barbashev, he’s bigger, cheaper, hits more ect, I like the edge Domi can play with and he is a bit faster and produces a bit more but Barbashev is solid down low, on the forecheck and adds what is needed on the third since he is good when playing C but doesn’t actually need to take FOs

Gotta go for it now, a rebuild is coming no matter what, just commit to now and worry about building later, even if it doesn’t work the late 1sts we’re getting the next 3 years are unlikely to be speeding up any rebuild and they’re not helping now. In 4/5 years we’ll be a team just outside the playoffs even if the next 3 1sts are decent/good players in the NHL, we’ll be appreciating the end of the big 3s careers as they chase accolades like 2000 points, and give fans a reason to go to games while the real rebuild starts and hopefully they give us a few things to cheer for while we tank and rebuild.
