I think it needs to be more for Kane with full retention - this package isn't really that sexy. Anderson is AHL depth at this point in his career, and Simmonds is a 4th liner, so neither of them brings any sort of value to this trade package. Kerfoot is a pending UFA who's too old for Chicago's rebuild, so you're basically giving them a scratch off ticket that could land anywhere from "traded for a 2nd rounder" to "blew out his knee in the 11th game and we let him walk in July for nothing" - in other words, there's some value there but since you're making them do the legwork, it's going to be a diluted value.

Niemala & a 1st is a good place to start, with that 3rd assumedly being kicked in to cover retention. I think you'd have to make it the 2023 1st, and I think you still need to add another prospect. Patty Kane put up 92 points last year spending the majority of his time on lines centered by Dylan Strome & Kirby Dach - I think he could push 120 playing with Matthews or Tavares, and Kyle Dubas shouldn't be afraid to pay up for that value.

As far as the other trades?
-Muzzin would probably block a trade to NJD, and as said above, there's no room on their depth chart to take on a pair of Dmen right now. Holl isn't better than Hamilton/Severson/Marino, and he walks at the end of the year, so there's zero sense behind Jersey trading for him; Muzzin could possibly step in at LD2 next year if Ryan Graves walks, but the Devs also have a barrel full of LD prospects they could slide up into that role too. Not to mention that I can't see Jersey just willingly taking on $6M in cap - cap you need to clear to afford Patrick Kane - and sending back assets for it. The best you could hope for in this situation is getting back FC for that pair.

-Toronto acquired Kyle Clifford last November from the Blues in exchange for Future Considerations. Since then, he played 23 regular season games, with a 1-2-3 scoring line and 31 PIMs; he then was on the ice for less than a minute of the Leafs' first playoff game before getting ejected & then suspended, and didn't appear again in that series. Why is he now worth a 4th rounder?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>leafsFan1996</b></div><div>"leaf blinders", I'm trading a 50 pt winger with a $750k salary for a 4th. Anaheim could easily flip him for more at the deadline, or if they surprise they can keep him for the playoffs, Anaheim has leverage and this would be a win-win regardless of how they play this year.

The only thing you could be right about is him having Anaheim on his 10 team NTC (or any other team willing to offer this).

a) we don't know that, it is likely he'd have a non-playoff team on the NTC but who actually knows, players have different considerations when filling out an NTC (family, actually city, the country)
b) players might only have say 5 teams they actually don't want to go to, but they have to have a list of 10 as per their contract, so he can waive
c) players with NTC's get moved. Bjorkstrand got moved to Seattle and they are bad, by your logic shouldn't Seattle have been on his NTC
d) even if you're right and Kerfoot won't go to any rebuilding team, Minny has over 5 mill in space. Wouldn't they want a versatile middle 6 player for a 4th

Kerfoot barely makes any real money and can play centre, which makes him more attractive than other middle 6 wingers.

It is more likely in my mind that a team this would happen rather than NO TEAM be willing pay a 4th for him (and kerfoot accepting should they be o his NTC)

If I did an AGM as Dallas and trade Gurianov for a 4th literally wouldn't be an issue. But because it's the leafs people have to twist themselves into a pretzel to this trading a middle 6 winger with league min salary and a 10 team NTC for a 4th is impossible. The leafs traded Zaitsev, Clarkson and Phaneuf. But yes, this can't happen</div></div>

Simple fact of the matter is we don't want Kerfoot, we have youth to develop at the positions he can play, and our lineup is already set, so it's an extreme inconvenience to take him. For whatever positive value Kerfoot could provide for a year, the value of his cap space, and the delaying a year of development for one of our youth is significantly higher.

So, in order for us to take a player we have no interest in, and knowing it solves the leafs cap problems, leafs need to pay us to take him. That is Anaheim's position.

If you wanted any value for him, he needed to be traded earlier in the summer while more teams had cap space and may have been in the market for him. Now the market for kerfoot is ice cold. He comes with draft picks or you can pawn him elsewhere, you guys dug this hole, and no one is interested in helping you out of it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>yeah yeah yeah, we get it. You hawks fans have a million excuses for why your guy keeps being in the center of terrible things but is always mr clean and did nothing wrong. sure thing bud, but hey at least we know the personal issues eh?

And if you were paying attention to the actual conversation about Kane, the issue presented was the extension that the OP literally has written in the explanation. So that's what im refering to. And you clearly dont understand aging curves if you think signing a 35 year old to a 7x5 contract is a good idea just because he 'hasent shown signs of slowing down" despite his rate numbers starting to dip and the fact that he needed 82% offensive zone starts to put up the numbers last year.</div></div>

LMAO but they aren't excuses, they are the facts, but of course you want to talk about a bunch echo chamber assumptions that aren't supported by any facts because the sensationalism is more fun! Hysterical

Kane isn't falling off a cliff. He's always had a ton of offense zone starts, usually in the 70s so not shocking the way a new coach played him a new system. You play to a players strength and his is obviously all offense. There's no signs he's slowing down right now, if you watch him regularly you will see that but you clearly don't. Players like Kane, who are slippery and not taking much physical abuse, are not falling off a cliff. Will there be decline...of course, but it will more then likely be a gradual decline.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>It's amazing how hawks fans love to ignore their dude who was dead center of two of the worst nhl controversies in living memory, and no hand waiving it doesnt make them go away. The dudes entire career off the ice has been a controversy even without the recent stuff. But sure, keep pretending.

As far as declines go, they are called cliffs for a reason. It doesn't matter if its kane, crosby, or Gretzkey a contract for 1st liner money that goes until 40 with a tight cap is a terrible idea</div></div>

Dead center of two of the worst NHL controversies? He was a 21 year old kid if you're referring to the KB incident with a player that never played on the hawks team. KB's own Rockford roommate and good friend said he knew nothing about what happened so why would Kane? Get out of the echo chamber...it's a poor unintelligent look.

His entire career off the ice has been a controversy? What??? You mean the cab driver incident 12 years ago? Okay fair enough like Matthews when he was out with friends on a drunk night.

I suppose you are also referring to the rape setup where the Buffalo police found the mother of the supposed victim planting evidence and quickly dropped the case...LOL OK...you're reaching again.

So there's one cab incident when he was a kid, what else are you referring to when you say "his entire career"? Kane is pretty quiet both on and off the ice and has been for years since the cab incident in Buffalo.

None of this matters like I said, Kane isn't signing long term in Toronto. Maybe he's waive as a TDL rental, but he's not moving to Canada long term. Regardless, he's not going to fall off a cliff, he will slowly start declining. You clearly don't understand the way he plays to suggest he will suddenly fall off a cliff.
