How trades are made
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cMac73</b></div><div>I know what you’re trying to do here but McAvoy is definitely not overpaid. He’s a top 5 d man in the nhl. Meanwhile the market value for most team’s top defenseman is 9.5 million and over, while McAvoy is better than almost all of them.
Panarin is a great playmaker but he’s the second highest paid player in the nhl, above guys like Matthews, Draisaitl, Mackinnon, Barkov, Huberdeau, Crosby, Makar, and more. He got paid 529k per goal this past regular season meaning his salary is more than half of his goal total from 2021-2022 regular season.</div></div>
Your statement that the Rangers would have to pay to dump him is ludicrous. And it's also moot as the Rangers have no desire to trade him. It's just a ridicules post.

Rasmus Sandin is also a former Greyound so I doubt he would be moved based on that logic

Why would the leafs ever do that? A top prospect, a good defenceman and a 50 point guy? Leafs decline.

Flames get their 1 center
The Flames already have a better number 1 center in Elias Lindholm but Barzal would be a good fit at RW.

Miller comes with extension both teams would need to move more money out
Honestly, Leafs pass. Miller is gonna be 30 this year and the back end of a long term deal is gonna be dicey. He's had one superstar year, and hasn't been over a point a game in any other season except one. This is way too much future for the Leafs to give up, Woo is an ok prospect that still hasn't even cracked the line up for one NHL game. Juulsen is well, just Juulsen. A first, a highly touted D prospect and a top 4 dman (along with a serviceable forward on an expiring contract) is not in the Leafs best interest.

big nyi trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles5513</b></div><div>If would start with Raymond, Seider or Edvinsson. It wouldn’t start with a pending ufa winger and two prospects who won’t be nearly as good as Barzal.</div></div>
Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider are off the table, Doubt Steve Yzeman would even move Simon Edvinsson but if there is some truth that Steve Yzerman is after Matthew Barzal then Simon Edvinsson has to at least be made available.
Moritz Seider is an elite franchise top pairing RHD, More than likely in 5 years or so he'll be at least top 15 in the league and a Norris candidate. Seider by himself is worth as much as 2 years of Barzal and more. Barzal alone doesn't even come close to either Raymond and Seider.
Vrana+Edvinsson+Detroit's 2023 1st round pick alone is overpay for 2 years of Matthew Barzal.

Raymond and Seider would be out of the question, I think Edvinsson could be an option but I don't think Yzerman would be keen on trading him or that he would be on Lou's radar. Since they don't have the cap they wouldn't take Bertuzzi probably, otherwise I would have suggested Larkin+Bertuzzi (if he gets vaxxed)+a prospect+1st.
If Larkin was coming with an extension, maybe Barzal+Bailey for Larkin+Bertuzzi+1st/prospect

need to win this yr or next
So basically you want Miller 50% retained for a cap dump we don’t need, a nobody prospect, and a 2024 first? You’re just embarrassing yourself right now
For your description about the Vancouver trade, the Canucks are only saving 0.6 million in cap space. That’s not saving anything

You realize there are more Leaf fans than any other team, so a lot of variety in opinion’s posted. No way I give up anything of value for Severson; certainly not a first - he’s average and overpaid

Sorry to break it to you, but when you need to offload cap so you can even play games, you have no leverage. Teams aren't going to pay for a guy who had significant injury issues and is in his mid-30's and has a nearly 6mil cap hit for two years.
Would it cost a first or Knies, probably not. But I'm just over all these Muzz to LA posts in general, and if me going heavily the OTHER way on the trade gets someone to open their eyes, then I'll go the other way with the trade.

Like many Toronto fans, you make the mistake of concluding that because Muzzin has value to the Maple Leafs, he must have the same value to other teams.
Muzzin is not a cap dump to Toronto because he fills the position of #2 LD quite well (at least, he did during the playoffs). In fact, I think you'll all be sorry if you do trade him because I'm not sure you're going to find someone better to replace him either internally or on the free agent market. But to Los Angeles, he has little value due to the Kings' cap situation, and to Anaheim (or other non-contending dumping grounds) he IS a cap dump because having him on the roster will have little immediate impact and no prospective impact for teams that are building for the future. A team like Arizona or Buffalo or Chicago is going to need an incentive to take on his massive cap hit for two seasons while missing the playoffs.
