Hockey Trade
Actually I wonder if the Flyers would be interested in Kampf.
Fans might not be too keen but he's been very good defensively up until this year, so I could see the Flyers org viewing him as a reliable replacement for Laughton

Leafs Trade Deadline - Hopeful yet possible
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Better Leafs offer than most on Koneckny...not sure its what they want/need though. LD with Provorov, Sanheim, York, Andrae, Zamula in system makes Sandin's value to PHI lesser (and probably 3LD on the current team) and Hirvonen, a LW, to a team that has currently has Tippett, Allison, Farabee, Atkinson, deslauriers, laughton, cates all playing wing with Bobby Brink, Foerster, Gautheir on the way, probably doesn;t crave Hirvonen as much as a RD Niemala.
Chicago isnt going to retain 2 mil for 3 yrs, even though the offer is good. Theyd have to have the belief that Voit and Niemala are bluechips.
And ARZ probably takes Steeves or the 3rd for expiring UFA Bjugstad, both is more than hes worth
But better value than most offers.</div></div>
Thanks for the detailed response.
I was under the impression that the Flyers may be looking to move on from Provorov, so a trade for Sandin could make sense for them. Hirvonen wouldn't have to be the add on piece either, could be another asset with similar value. I just think that Sandin and a 1st are a strong foundation for a fair trade.

Jakob to TOR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>The ask from the Coyotes has been rumored to be more than the Hampus Lindholm package that the Ducks got last year. So let's see how this matches up (remember: Lindholm cost a 1st, two 2nds, a close to NHL ready prospect, and came with an offsetting cap contract in John Moore.)
1st is there, okay. Hirvonen probably has 2nd round value, so okay. Steeves doesn't have 2nd round value, but I'll argue that Sandin being a better asset than Urho Vaakainanen makes up for that difference.
So, while you've more or less matched the Lindholm package, Arizona's demand has been for that package to be beaten - which this package really doesn't. And that's before you get to the fact that Arizona is also sending back, and retaining, on a decent trade chip in Nick Bjugstad. Coyotes will need more to make this package happen.
I'd also argue on the other hand - why does Toronto need to make this deal in season? They're a top 5 defensive team with tons of depth (Rielly/Gio/Sandin/Mete as LHD, Brodie/Liljegren/Holl/Timmins as RHD), so spending this many assets in-season doesn't make a ton of sense to me. I think you can kick around a Chychrun deal in the summer, sure, but paying deadline prices when you really don't need the player seems like a weird use of assets.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac555</b></div><div>I’m still confused by why leafs fans REALLY want Chychrun. The reality is he doesn’t really add much defensively to their D corp, just more offense. Is he really the right defensive player you NEED to add?
I think the leafs fans are more enamored with the idea of JC, but the reality of JC would be rather disappointing if you gave up a package like this.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ritzy</b></div><div>Nope, there is no need to spend the assets ARZ is looking for. TOR's defense is fine at the moment. Don't fix what isn't broken.</div></div>
I generally would rather Leafs focus their trade assets on upgrading the scoring depth but all the hype around Chychrun has got me thinking. I haven't really done a deep dive on understanding Chychruns contributions but analysts I trust tend to think he's one of the only dmen the leafs should go after (if the cost isn't stupid).
The biggest reason why I think it makes sense to trade Sandin for Chychrun is that once you pair Reilly with Liljegren (which makes the most sense to me), your next pair would be your true shutdown pair with Brodie, and then at that point Sandin is on your third pair, which is kind of a waste. I think the pragmatic move would be to swap him for someone who can play the strong 2-way role with Brodie.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JTrades</b></div><div>Fair point. It was reported that he was offered more term and money but choose to sign with the leafs because of opportunity. I'd imagine he's currently on pace for about 3 mill but as you say, it will depend on how the rest of the year plays out</div></div>
Yeah, and leafs can continue to go cheap in goal. No need to stick with someone. Can even trade away Murray if needed.
Obviously the most important year is 24/25 but so much can change between now and then.
And as long as the contracts aren't untradeable, the leafs can always offload a piece or two in order to lock up the big guns.
I just think the most important thing is to get value from their trades. Which means to high cost rentals.
If the guys they trade for has a couple years at a mid-range cap hit, it's a situation that can be dealt with at a later time.

leafs 2324 example
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SNipeSHowInc</b></div><div>So the real issue that comes up here is that you have at the end of 23-24. Matthews, Nylander, Sandin, Liljegren all expiring and all expected to get significant raises. You still have Konecny on that contract (which isn’t an awful contract, just hard to fit it in)</div></div>
It will definitely be a challenge. But the prediction is that the cap will go up by a significant amount for that season. Gary's original claim was 4m for next season so my hope is that it will be at least that much for the following season. Auston and Willy probably required ~5m for their raises and Brodie will be off the books then when he enters his twilight years.
The 2 sweDes will be a challenge for sure but all long as the Buds don't have any **** contracts, the cap sheet can always be restructured.

Even Bunting I wouldn't pay more than that</div></div>
Samonov's contract obviously entirely depends on how the rest of the season plays out. But so far it really looks like he's at the level that a lot of people predicted, and that doesn't exactly necessitate a raise.

Probably.. But I'm expecting the number to be a bit higher than what people are expecting. And I tried to play this out as sort of a worst case scenario.
Seems apparent that the leafs will go long term to bring the cap hit down, and hopefully it's below 4.5m

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Sorry you're math is wrong. So if Engvall and Kerfoot goes....that. 5.7m...minus the 2m in replacements. So the that's 3.7m plus the 1m cap increase . Let's say five million. Kampf, Holmberg, Timmins, Bunting. Yeah that might cover the 5m, but still a 20 man roster is not workable.
Heck your 20 man roster posted is just barely under the cap 82.5m is barely under the cap.</div></div>
Being barely under the cap is the point. The Leafs went into this year over the cap.
If you spend some time playing around with the roster, it's very easy to make it work.

They definitely can afford him this season and next. He clearly fits this season ^
- Cap will go up at least a million but i wouldn't be surprised if it's more.
- 5.75m coming off the books in Kerfoot and Engvall next season.
- Bunting probably in the 5m range
- Samsonov probably won't get much of a raise.
- Kampf will get his bump but I think under 3M cap hit
- D is set for next year
- And the rest of the roster can be filled with <1m cap hit players

Nylander trades
There is no reason to ever trader Nylander. One of the best contracts in the league and will still likely be underpaid on his next contract, even if he gets a significant raise.
Dude improves year after year. And Leafs should still be able to fit him in on his next deal

Definitely don't want to take minutes away from Kampf but the leafs need more center depth and the non-kampf bottom 6 line needs an upgrade.
Henrique can play on the wing as well so he could be a great fit at the right price and right retention.

Interesting.. I purposely proposed an overpayment since opposing fans usually will accept nothing less.
I assume if there is a chunk of salary retained, a first would have to be involved. But after that I don't think the Leafs really need to add much else.
In my mind, a second and a prospect or 2 could be fair as well.
