the goalie situation is up in the air. if the goalies they have **** the bed this year then ya 3-4 million will have to be directed there. as for the free agents that was more about the money that could be spent there than the actual players themselfs

Calgary will have zero cap space after they sign Tkachuk and are vulnerable to a offer sheet even with Edmonton's limited cap space

so why not just offer sheet Bennett? call up Benson and run Kassian on the top line for another year? you could offer jp for sb as well and they might get it but no way trading sam for neal is a good deal. a Russel trade is pointless this year unless you can fill the 2nd rd position with a short term contract that's a improvement over him. Move him next year when he has a year left on his contract and his bonus is paid and your young guys have proven they can bat that high up in the lineup.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boomer125</b></div><div>Your point is irrelevant when you add Lucic , to move Lucic will cost a ton, pull Lucic from the deal and Montreal talks</div></div>
with salary retained not really. Lucic has fallen off but he is still capable of playing on the 3rd or 4th line and maintaining plus possession and goal diff. maybe 1.25mil isn't enough retained but there are still teams that value his toughness. i am actually fine with him staying a oiler and playing on the 4th line if he cant be moved in a reasonable deal. ya its dead cap space but its a better use than over paying to get rid of him. also if you want to go and say it cost Toronto a first to get rid off Marelue well Toronto painted themselves into a corner and had no choice but to make a desperation move. the oilers don't have to move lucic

i think your over valuing drouin. not saying i would do the trade but nurse alone is easily worth drouin and peca. i think if you were to take the 1st and one of the seconds out it would be fairly even

offer sheet 2
thanks, not much left in the ufa market but loads of talented rfa on teams with little cap space left. NY's Pavel Buchnevich is another one that could be worth a offer sheet.

Toronto trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SammyT_51</b></div><div>Zaitsev is good two-way guy who likes more offensive role then defensive role, but is good defensively. He was playing completely wrong role the whole past 2 seasons. He was played as defensive stopgap which he isnt. Once he was paired with two-way guy like Muzzin or Dermott he was playing levels better than with Gardiner. Also with him, the most important or one of the most important things is his confidence which was basically ****ty in Toronto because of the pressure of the market. He is good. He needs a change of scenery and he would be even better. He has some errors to his game which should be mentioned like horrible decisionmaking on the blueline when trying to make play going forward or sometimes bad decision making on 2-on-1s when he was against two forwards and he jumped into conclusion what will happen wrongly. But he is great at breaking up plays before and around own blue line and he has some good offensive tools such as bomb of a shot and nice skating abilities. He is portrayed to be this horrible Dman with horrible contract but his contract at least cap hit wise is fair (for #4 - #5 guy). The term is questionable, it should be like 2-3yrs less which means the setback in value for him but overall he is not bad player and he is still fairly young (27) and I feel like that after those two ****ty seasons in Toronto he will turn it around in another city massively. He is not as bad as media and some members of ACGM community portrayed him to be. BUT he should be much better than he was because sometimes during this season he looked terrible. So did Larsson who needs a change as well.</div></div>
Thanks for the info. Its good to get a take from someone who has watched him a lot.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SammyT_51</b></div><div>From what Ive heard, if Larsson is going to Toronto Zaitsev is going to Edmonton. Im not sure it happens but both of them need fresh start. Kapanen+Zaitsev for Larsson+Puljujarvi? Id do it if I was Edmonton.</div></div>
I don't know much about zaitsev other than a few articles i have read. Is he a decent shutdown guy? The thing that would concern me with that trade is Oilers need to strengthen there right hand d until their prospects can step in and i think this would be a step back. They would have to swing a pricey trade for a number 1 rd as well if they want to take a step forward

I would say poor not horrible but splitting hair. Not running their goalies into the ground and staying healthy on d would bump them up a few spots but would still look for a stop gap upgrade for Russell that can move the puck better though

go oilers
because if they don't make the trade i offer sheet him and they need d men and will have 0 cap after they sign M.M. probably right on Faulk and i had originally had a 2nd round pick in there but they are deep on the right d and with only one year left could loose him to free agency anyway.
