Rebuild Over, Contend NOW: Trades(MTL, VGK, PIT)

I agree with you for McNabb, but the Devils are desperate for an improvement at Left Defense. Would Santini and Bastian be enough for McNabb? I would prefer to keep Quenneville
You think McLeod and Wood alone would be enough to get Galchenyuk?

It definitely is, but the right side is one of the best right sides in the league. I consider McNabb an upgrade over Moore, so the left side is still improved. As long as McNabb and Greene remain serviceable, there shouldn't be any issues

NJ Boys Come Home and BIG Vegas Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smitty426</b></div><div>Potential is not concrete, yes we all know its possible, but as you said a deep D draft, plus a rostered player like santini is a sure thing. Santini played good big minutes early in the season but it was too much IMO. It shows that he can, so he has value. Theo is 22 so giving up a 1st round in this draft is just jump starting that build. Its not like Theo is 27. But I do see what you are saying overall. If anyone can do it its Shero. Zajac can be moved but it may be pennies on the dollar, if that means room is made for these 2 players who would be against it? If you look at it like this: Greene and Zajac for Carlson, Tavares. Because that what it end up being on a ledger sheet. Agree that there would be a sweetener. I don't think Shero will leave those holes in the draft either, he move something. Good time to be a fan for teh Devs</div></div>
In this case it is simple, if Vegas trades someone with Shea's puck skills on the back end, they won't want to replace him with a stay-at-home Dman. They already have decent depth with stay-at-home Dmen

NJ Boys Come Home and BIG Vegas Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Newanda</b></div><div>Why cannot you just play Vatanen - Carlson, Greene- Severson, and Butcher- Santini with Mueller as the 7th man? It's not perfect but you don't have to get up anything.</div></div>
Although Vatanen has played on the left in the past, it is not ideal having a Dman play on his off side. The point of trading for Shea Theodore is to potentially have 5 Dmen in the lineup who will be Devils for a long time. If we don't want to trade Severson, we can trade Santini for a lesser LHD than Shea Theodore

Good move on LJ
I'd would try and convince Tavares to come here instead of JVR, but that would take moving Zajac and Greene, which I'd be ok with
Overall nice moves</div></div>
If we make these moves, 2018 will probably be the highest we pick in a long time. Also, this is one of the deepest defensive drafts in a while, so not having any picks before the 4th round is a bad idea. Shea also has one of the highest ceilings in the league, so it would take Severson and Wood to come close to matching that potential.
I agree about wanting Tavares over JVR, but there is no way to do it besides trading Zajac without salary retention, which I think is impossible. Also, if that somehow ends up happening, the team won't be able to afford Severson's contract for a 3rd pairing Dman

Close, with Vegas being predicted to be good for a while, 1st rounders are assumed to be late 1st rounders. I would think Miller, Glass and a 2019 1st rounder. This will be a sign-and-trade so Miller will sign a long-term contract

I feel like Ottawa turned down more than this at the TDL for EK. Also, Schmidt is only 1 year younger than EK, so this trade makes less sense for Ottawa. If the Sens trade EK, they are committing to a full rebuild, so they would need a younger Dman in return who won't bolt to Free Agency after 1 season

I see the Devils holding onto Zajac for another year and buying him out if he doesn't pick things up. Also, John Moore will be offered more $$ and term elsewhere. Look at the quality of LHD in Free Agency this summer, it is not great. I see him signing with the highest bidder this summer

That Vancouver trade is more lopsided than Hall for Larsson, except this one is against the Devils. Would rather have a better defensive Dman on the left if we sign Carlson

Re-think the lines... Start winning again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TP3905</b></div><div>Lovejoy should be scratched cause Butcher has over 30 (!) points as a rookie defensemen and Hall isn’t “carrying” Hischier if you look at the Corsi and CF% before Hall contributed at this pace it shows Hischier is more than holding his own against top pairings he wasn’t drafted to score goals at a very high level he was drafted for his good two way play and playmaking ability which is exactly what he has been doing all season</div></div>
If Nico wants to be a top line center in the NHL, he needs to produce points. We are not the Tampa Bay lightning with 3 legitimate scoring lines; right now we only have one line that poses a threat offensively. If that was a solid plan for winning, the Penguins would have a 1st line of Malkin-Crosby-Kessel. Because Sullivan is a smart coach who has a similar philosophy to what I showed above, he puts those 3 players on different lines. Coaches have to pick their poison because you can't deploy your top dmen against all 3 lines. This means that Nico and Palms will probably get more time against lower lines and pairings, which should ultimately result in greater production.
As for Butcher, before this season the most games he played in a season at Denver was 43 (his senior year). Since his 43rd game played this year, he has played 22 more games and has put up on 4 points (1 on the PP) with a -3 rating and only 19 shots on net. Although he shouldn't be routinely scratched (for the record, I think he's better than Lovejoy), but I don't think he should be playing in all 16 of our remaining games. We have 3 sets of back-to-backs left and it might make sense for him to split them with Mueller or Lovejoy. He's clearly burnt out

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TP3905</b></div><div>How is Butcher scratched?! And Zajac on the first line! You have to keep Hall and Hischier together no matter what! They boost eachother and a look at their CF% shows that they are one of the most dangerous duos in the league</div></div>
Nico is riding Hall's coat tails instead of generating offense himself. Also, with Hall-Nico-Palms being the first line, the gameplan against us is simple: shut down the 1st line because there is no scoring depth beneath it. If we split up Hall, Nico and Palms, that gameplan isn't as simple. Also, I wouldn't call Nico and Hall a dangerous duo right now because it really is Hall carrying Nico. This obviously isn't a long term solution, but it is the only real way to make the Devils hard to play against right now.
Butcher isn't necessarily scratched, but the bottom pairing needs to be re-thought or looked at. We need a third pairing that we can rely on a little bit more, because we are seeing Greene and Moore play way more minutes than they should be. I am starting to think that Mueller should not be getting consistently scratched when Butcher and Lovejoy's play has dropped lately. Either Butcher or Lovejoy should be scratched for Mueller considering neither of them have contributed much lately. Butcher has only 2 points in his last 18 games and has gone 20 games without a point on the PP

Gunnarsson is a 3rd pairing Dman, and the Devils have a solid 3rd pairing D. They would much rather give Mueller a shot than give up a pick for Gunnarsson. If the Devils trade for a Dman, it will be for a top 4 LHD, not a bottom pair

I've talked to some Western Conference fans and they say that OEL is good, but not nearly as good as Eastern Conference fans think because they only watch him play twice per year. OEL will be traded this offseason, and it will be to an Eastern Conference team. We will look at what that team gave up for him and think "good thing that wasn't us"

WITH JT, JC
A few critiques:
1) we get hosed on the Severson trade. Severson has a much higher ceiling than McCabe and Moore wouldn't agree to that contract in the sign-and-trade. If we trade Severson for a LHD, it should be for someone we know will improve our defense both now and in the future, and that's not McCabe
2) Saad is worth much more than MoJo because of MoJo's concussion history and shorter contract
3) Carlson will want more than 4 years, and if he takes a 4 year contract, the cap hit will be much higher than 7 Mill
Lastly, I have looked at ways we can sign both JT and JC, and it can't be done without unloading Greene or Zajac's contract

The Devils are a significantly better fit than the Rangers. Wouldn't JT rather have an elite winger like Taylor Hall who he could play with for the duration of his contract? It might take years for the Rangers to come up with suitable talent to play with JT
