I agree Zona should never use Garland to move OEL. But that’s about the only way i’d take OEL. 🤷🏻♂️</div></div>
Krejci with no RW is still better than Schmaltz and Crouse haha. Even just the eye test I’d say Garland is the better player regardless of the stats. I can see why Boston would at least ask for the hometown kid but it would be criminal for the Coyotes to agree to that. In my opinion give Garland to the Bruins and you can just hand them the cup next year

Not good enough. Second pair? Grzelcyk already does that job. OEL wouldn’t get any powerplay time in boston. Just a horrible fit.
My opinion on OEL hasn’t changed over the last year. I thought when he signed that contract it was bad news.</div></div>
That’s revisionist history, there was no signs of this type of decline when he signed the deal with the coyotes, in fact I remember thinking it was a solid deal because they got him for under what I think he would have commanded on the open market. His use over the last couple of years by Tocchet has been borderline criminal and his numbers have certainly showed it.
If I’m the Bruins I’d pair him with Carlo and let him play offense while Carlo stays at home. I realize that’s kind of Grzelcyk does already but you can start him on the first pair and if OEL shows signs of a breakout you can move him up with McAvoy. Like I said it’s a gamble but if I’m Boston and can make the money work and get him for a reasonable price I’d do it

In my opinion the Rangers deal is the most evenly matched in terms of money, term, and need. But with the amount of D prospects they have coming through the system it’s questionable whether they want to do it or not which is understandable. Guess it comes down to how the Rangers view their guys internally. I wonder if the coyotes added a small sweetener (Crouse?) if that would make the deal worth the risk for the Rangers

It’s not an issue with the player, its an issue with the contract. He’s a 3-4 million dollar guy getting paid 8.25 for the next five years. Get it? This isn’t rocket science.</div></div>
I’m still gonna take my victory lap haha. My biggest pet peeve about this site is how much people’s opinion of value changes over the course of one season. Your opinion would still be justified because it is somewhat of a gamble, but in my opinion it’s a worthwhile gamble for a team like the Bruins who are towards the end of their cup/playoff window.

Drop the 1st coming from MTL and I think there’s a deal to be made there. OEL is not worth a first anymore. If there’s cap filler involved to make the money work I’d do it with that base

Like I said Debrusk 1st 3 years going into arb. .592 ppg. Garland .585.
Nobody was ever giving Boston a 1st and 2 top prospects for him. Doubt anyone will for Garland either. It’s wishful thinking.
If you want Boston to take on OEL without sending Garland as incentive…tall task.</div></div>
That’s fine, when Garland’s name is entered into the OEL trade discussion, the Coyotes hang up. They will be able to find a way to get rid of OEL without giving up their most valuable player.
The difference between Debrusk’s and Garland’s production is that Debrusk was the beneficiary of playing with other good players. That was shown a bit this year when his quality of line mate decreased. Nothing wrong with that, but teams aren’t going to pay the price mentioned above for a complementary player like that. Garland is creating all of his own offense with very limited help. There are teams that will pay that price for a player like that. But again I think it’s a moot point because I don’t think he will be traded.

For the bruins, sadly, the player makes no sense. That sheltered second pair left shot d man you just described…the bruins already have that player. He’s better than OEL, and gets paid under 4 million. They can get another one of those players by just throwing 2.5 million at mike rielly. OEL is paid at least double what he’s worth, and that’s why none of these trades are really worth discussion.</div></div>
“None of these trades are really worth discussion” there have been 2 different fan bases who have chimed in and said with minor adjustments they’d take the trade. It’s just Bruins fans who have a burning dislike for OEL for whatever reason.
It will be a happy day on this site when OEL does get traded somewhere else and ends up being a solid contributor and I can take a nice victory lap around people like you, but until then, have a nice day.

Garland’s first 3 years in the league was exactly the same productivity as Debrusks first 3. Nobody was giving Boston the kind of package people think Garland is worth for Debrusk at that time. Shiny new toy syndrome.</div></div>
Other teams will offer better packages for Garland than that. It would be a waste of his value to include him in an Ekman-Larson trade. That’s all besides the point because I doubt they trade him anyway. If they can find a way to get rid of OEL they will have $40 MILLION of cap space and could pay Garland whatever he wants.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMcAvoy73</b></div><div>Have a link? I don’t think that happened.
OEL has a bad contract. You can’t understand the bruins fans aversion to him? Seriously? You really can’t understand that? Well, allow me to enlighten you.
1. The contract. It’s bad. Bad bad bad.
2. The decline. It’s very obvious that he’s in decline. The eye test shows it, the numbers show it. Every time I see him play he looks worse. He’s an expensive non factor.
3. He’ll pitch in 50+ points? Why? What makes you think this? He has one 50 point season in his career (in any league) and it was 2015.
4. He’s soft. Minus player in the last seven or eight seasons.
Bottom line, he isn’t very good, and he’s paid like he’s elite. Retain half and expect maybe a 2nd and Moore back? Sure. Any sort of actual value is out of the question.</div></div>
Yeah he’s overpaid. That’s out of the way. Let’s break down the rest of what you just said.
He was on pace for 43 points this season. On the coyotes, one of the most abysmal offenses in the entire league. You don’t think he can find a way to chip in 7 more points somewhere playing with Pasta, Marchand, Hall, etc? That’s a joke. 50 points would be his floor in my opinion.
You watch him play once, maybe twice a year. I watch every single one of his games every season. Has he declined? Absolutely. Is he still a second pairing sheltered offensive defenseman who can run the second powerplay unit? Yes 100%. It was blatantly obvious from day 1 that Tocchet was not playing OEL in the capacity in which he would thrive. Wherever he goes next he is bound to see somewhat of a renaissance for a couple of seasons. He probably won’t ever live up to the contract but for a team like the Bruins who only have a couple of playoff runs left in them with this roster anyway they just need him for the next 2-3 seasons.
Not sure how/why you ended up using plus minus as an indicator of a players “softness” but OEL is the ONLY player on the coyotes who would actually fight/stick up for his teammates. He is far from soft.
I’m willing to have an honest conversation about OEL’s worth in a trade. When you throw “Moore and a second for half retention” out there as a serious offer I’m done talking. That’s a joke. He’s worth more than that.

OEL is still good but not even close to being worth 8.25 mill anymore. Also arizona is going bankrupt they can barely pay their players so i think if arizona only has to apy about 25% of OELs contract that would help them out somewhat finacially they can't afford his 8.25mil salary no more so they are in a situation where they just gotta dump him for whatever they can</div></div>
Their owner is worth billions of dollars they’re not going bankrupt. **** Merulo will probably be worth more than he was before after this summer and how much revenue his casinos will bring in. I see what you’re talking about with the bad contracts coming back, but I don’t see the coyotes retaining more than $1.5-2 mil

“Wanting out” may have been a strong term but I saw that him and Cassidy “don’t see eye to eye” from one of the National reporters this week. That’s a veiled way of saying he’s not happy.
Whatever the case, Ekman-Larson is better than your current options at LD besides Gryz. He would play on your second pair and probably pitch in 50+ points with the help of the talent around him. I don’t understand Bruins fans aversion to him especially after your defense fell apart in every way possible this playoff run

Bruins definitely could be interested they are in need of a top LHD but I think they would only do it if Arizona retained enough salary that his AAV for the bruins was around 5-5.5 mill</div></div>

I really don’t think it’s likely that the Coyotes shackle themselves to paying ~$2 mil a season to be rid of him for the next 6 years. A lot of these trades are giving up significant money to the coyotes in the near term, contracts that are beyond dead. OEL can contribute 40-50 points still

I wouldn’t trade Dvorak for this package. Too much quantity not enough quality. To be honest I don’t know a ton about Abramov or Anderson though.
Dvorak is a solid 2C who is defensively responsible, not a great scorer but can put up 40-50 a season. Plays in front of the net on the powerplay, can kill penalties too.
I’d say a package for Dvorak should start with Kerfoot and the second, but then add another quality prospect. I’d do it if you added Liljegren but I’m not sure the Leafs do that. A player on that level though, and extra points for being an RD like Liljegren

Yes. His talent for creating offense is something the coyotes haven’t had for almost a decade. And he took a super team friendly deal for his last contract and wants to get paid on this one. Rumors are that his agent will be using the Keller contract as a comp, $1 mil discount off that for age difference when signed gets you to $6 mil. I’d pay him more if he asks, but not more than Keller
