Marner will get $11,616,000 per. Since Matthews got his 34, I'm sure Marner will get his double 16's lol.

IMO...Rielly has taken a huge step forward this year. So the biggest difference is that we would now have the best d-man in the series...the better goalie...and the better offence. Bruins D-core as a whole is better, IMO...but the Leafs aren't far off.
I'm not sure what more can be done for the blueline this offseason given the amount of salary that needs to be dumped. The good news is, Zaitsev has looked A LOT better...when was the last time the leafs got scored on and the goal could be blamed on a Zaitsev lapse? He's showed a lot more confidence the last few weeks and it's been paying off. He's still not a $4.5m d-man...but he's more than just 'serviceable' right now.

This wouldn't be my preferred route to take with the roster but I won't slam this concept or the trades. Tom Wilson is one of those guys leaf fans would immediately fall in love with, I don't know who anyone is kidding.
My take...and it's just opinion/observation....we had a team with size and grit thru the 1st half of last season and we spent it begging Babcock to stop playing Komarov and Matt Martin and get Marner higher up in the lineup and to call up Kapanen.
Now we have a top 5 team that's loaded with skill and the Toronto media will have you believe we need to go backwards and swap skill for size and grit. We need to stop being afraid of a playoff series against Boston.

Time for a proper rebuild
You can only retain salary from 3 players. Currently, you're retaining 4.
As for the trades...well, to put it simply, they don't really work imo. The value of Larsson and Klefbom are pretty much on point, but the team you're trading with is wrong. BUF and MIN are not moving their draft picks. They want to further build their teams. Sekera and Russell are both overpaid, you'd be lucky if you get a 3rd for Sekera and 5th for Russell. Also CAR won't trade two of their top prospects outside of NHL just for RNH. Although he is having a good season, the demand is just way too high.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>leafsfaninvancity</b></div><div>I'm open to suggestions.</div></div>
Leafs have adequate wingers as replacements. Trade Nylander and his 7m for no immediate cap return. I saw your latest post. You want all all those RFAs sacrifice long term money and security just because Marleau has made his tens of millions and the Leafs overpaid for Matthews and Nylander.
Most Leafs fans have this obsession about not being able to trade one of alleged core, but I. don't really see any alternatives. Not only did they sign an expensive UFA Tavares, and for team with no playoff round wins, are paying too much for their own RFAs. There are only so many cap dollars and I kinda doubt any team can fill multiple roster spots with under 1 million players and expect to win.

My only comment about this excellent post is that more likely teams for Brown and Hyman are Edmonton, Minnesota and Carolina, all of whom are desperate for RW's. Anaheim has about 8 right-handed guys for the 8 forward positions.

For Every Toronto Fan Creating Teams
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>leafsfaninvancity</b></div><div>ChiHawk, you won't make the playoffs this year or the next, and you're stuck for Keith and Seabrook for another 6 years. Time to focus on a rebuild. You've won your cups.</div></div>
We'll be back to the playoffs next year or the year after...not worried about it and certainly okay with the Hawks missing the playoffs for a few years in return for 3 cups in the last 10 if that's the price a fan has to pay.
And frankly, as some people on here know, I'd really like to see the Leafs, SJ, Jets, Nashville or Colorado bring home a cup this year but would be okay with Tampa at the end of the year also; as long as it's not Bos, Pit, or the Caps. I love hockey and even though I'm a diehard Hawks fan, I'm good with spreading the wealth to deserving teams and fans of those teams...that ultimately draws a bigger audience which is good for the sport.

If Kapanen wants too much next season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>Last season manson was hands down their best D. It wasn’t even close. Kappenen also has the luxury of playing with Matthews. Getzlaf (while a great passer) won’t be able to inflate kappenen stats as much as Matthews can</div></div>
Kapanen has played almost as much time away from Matthews as he has with him and yes Matthews did inflate his stats. Hell with Matthews Kapanen looks like a 40 goal scorer. I do think Kapanen is a good player that is for sure a top 6 forward. His speed is next level and he does have a good shot as well. Personally I would much rather keep him and in a perfect world, they'll sign him to a 1 year deal worth 2.5 million or so and then give him more term after Marleau retires. But if he wants too much, I'd trade him this off season. Bracco has turned a corner in the AHL and looks like he's the next talented, fast, high potential RW who will press for an opportunity with the big club.

Leafs defence will be bad through 2020
Just guessing that Sandin...first round pick in 2018, who is with the Marlies this year might have the inside of track for a Dman next year.
But let's go with your thought the Leafs defence is bad, then it should be a easy trade to trade a forward for a dman. The signing of Nylander of other forwards when they sign their RFAs contract is to get fair contracts. Fair contracts can be traded either for picks, and cheap ELCs for cap space or equal fair, expensive contracts of a dman.
So, I think this impression that the Leafs "can't keep all their young core" might be correct, but it doesn't mean a player can't be traded for value.

You're right about Johnson, he's 23 and seem to found himself with the Marlies, probably has going top get good minutes at LW....maybe behind Hyman and Marleau.
Grundstrom might need some North American experience with the Marlies, but you're right he might be close, as is Korchov? who might be signed with year too.
Time to move away from JVR, Bozak and Komarov.

I have a question... Why spend 4 mill on Leo and Sheahan, when you can play Johnsson and Aaltonen???
