Red Wings Re-tooling at Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jfstompers</b></div><div>Why would we trade a guy with term for a ufa goalie. Buff declines of course.</div></div>
This trade would be contingent on Anderson resigning with the Red Wings. They have a lot of contracts coming off the books and will have the cap space to re-sign him. Anderson could use a fresh start after Toronto and he would likely welcome a team where the expectations and pressure is not as high.

The Devils have been looking to offload Subban's contract all season. Since his performance has increased, now is the perfect time to make a deal. By acquiring the expiring contracts of Bernier and Staal, it would give the Devils cap flexibility heading into the offseason. With a flat cap this would put them in a position of power to make a splash. Maybe even bring in a player like Taylor Hall.

This next year will be to see what they have and get ready for the expansion draft. Many teams in the western conference will be taking a step back due to the salary cap. They have a ton of dead money coming off the books to make a big trade if needed. Toronto can keep their picks.</div></div>
I do know the kings roster well. They will be stockpiling as many picks as they can in hopes to hit big. That is why Toronto who is built to win now makes for a great trade partner. You will be lauging when the kings win the cup in 23'

Leafs 2021 Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kingsfaninSD</b></div><div>Kings will be in the mix in two years with next year battling for the 8th seed. Retaining salary doesn't make sense on one your leaders on D. The Kings are getting their pipeline stocked already, they don't need all of those draft picks, Toronto will need them when they blow the team up after next year.</div></div>
The Kings are not likely to be in the mix with how competitive the western conference is for the next few years. The picks will allow them to stockpile blue chip prospects in the early rounds with high potential in hopes that at least a few reach their potential. Those entry level contracts combined with Kopiter, Quick, Brown, and the rest of the core is how they will contend again.

The Kings likely won't have a competitive roster for at least the next 3 years. The retained salary will allow them to yield a larger return from Toronto and build towards the years where they can reach contention again. They want to move on from the Doughty contract and Toronto desperately needs that elite RHD.

The Kings have lost a lot of market share in LA due to the rise of the Rams, Lakers, and Clippers. After Doughty's abysmal season, this is their chance to bring in picks and young players to build for the future. They aren't going to make a lot of profit marketing Drew Doughty over athletes like LeBron and Aaron Donald.

Nashville has been looking for an elite winger for years. This is their chance to make a splash. They've been successful in recycling defenceman out over the years since their scouts draft defense very well. It is a trade that makes sense for both parties.

It is likely too large of a change for Colorado to make heading into the playoffs. They are waiting for the off season to pull the trigger on a big deal for a high caliber center.

The Sabers would be giving away assets for an upgrade in Matthews. Toronto's management are looking to get rid of him after his antics demonstrated that he is not captain material. This is the best opportunity for the Sabers to make a splash and boost their goal scoring.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dewbee </b></div><div>I glossed over the random 6th and 7th rounders and assumed it was RFA offer sheet compensation. After taking a closer look, you sold Edmonton a bunch of mooks for a package of garbage late rounders. And I did neglect to properly roast you for signing a 37, a 39 and a 40 year old and then using a straight face to call this a contending team. My apologies for missing all of that earlier, I hope I did not offend.</div></div>
You are demonstrating ageism with your comment. These players may be older than other players in their "prime" but that does not mean they are unable to produce. Joe Thornton had 51 points last year in 73 games. Clayton Keller puts up 47 points in 82 games and nobody bats an eye at the ridiculous 8yr/57 200 000 contract given to him. Joe Thornton is a much better value player. Don't old shame him.

Frederick Anderson and Carey Price have roughly the same save percentage. Frederick Anderson is also younger and on a much better contract. As for your "then offer sheeted a bunch of mooks" comment, there was no offer sheet made here. Mitch Marner was a sign and trade. He also had 94 points last season which would make him the highest scorer on Montreal by 22 points. I really doubt you have any statistics to support your argument.
