<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Alex Holtz has flaws. His defensive game still needs some polish, and he really needs to be more careful with the puck, as there are some bad turnovers at times.
He is never going to be a play driving guy.
But he is fantastic at getting open for shots in the ozone, and he is an incredible shooter.
The offensive tools are already there to be a 35 goal scorer literally next year if you stick him into a role in the top 6 and PP1.
Now, whether his defensive and puck position game will follow to an acceptable level is the question that determines whether he’s Mike Hoffman or Tyler Toffoli</div></div>
The open challenge is Boston is a team that depends on forechecking and defensively responsible forwards. They have a player with a similar profile in Lysell and Lysell showed he’s willing to play a team game. My assumption is Holtz will have more potential than a late 1st. Just wondering if he makes sense. Personally think he’s worth a flyer, but I do acknowledge the flaws and talent are both present
I don’t see why Vegas trades Karlsson and why Boston isn’t just signing Lindholm OR Stephenson. At the beginning of the year, all I heard from most fans was praying that Lindholm would make it to free agency.

Yup. His choice of a good goalie with term has it during ages 35 and 36 unless he decides to do what he did last year / shop in the deep discount aisle.
All I’m saying is expirings can be extended. If that’s his justification, you have bigger problems

Even if they are older and their long term contract ages worse. Easy resolution to term question. Sign an extension :)

That’s what one year contracts are for. I agree Mercer regressed last year.

Berkly Catton save us Berkly Catton
I love this time of year. Every bad team believes they have the next star even though 5-12 is basically a coin flip for a top 6 wing or a top 4 defenseman.
Always possible. GM’s are fallible and 18 year old kids develop
Berkly Catton is one of my favorites. Seen him twice this year in person and pay for the CHL package. Probably a tad lower ceiling, but a higher floor because of his skill level.

Doubt Mercer takes that contract. The cap is 87.7. You can probably redo this and make it more realistic

While I believe Chychrun has the talent to be a core piece, I’m also wondering if he is a 3rd pairing D for us if Lohrei plays up to his ability.

With the way Lohrei is playing, I don’t believe they will allocate salary long term to a 4th D. They will allocate funds to a forward and help improve their offense. Also. Frederic contributes more to their forecheck and their toughness. Don’t believe he’d be available

1. Geekie is a very valuable third liner at 2m
2. At the beginning of the year, I think most Bruins fans would have been happy that Lindholm made it to FA. I believe he is going to be a Bruin. Just curious about the price
3. I doubt they bring in a 3.5M free agent defender.

I wouldn’t give you the lint in my dryer for POJ and would assume that Boston could get a better forward at 4 years, $5M than Rackell. That trade for Ullmark is brutal

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Your last sentence, to me, sets out the ideal off-season strategy for Boston.</div></div>
Lindholm struggled this year, but I do believe not knowing what’s next can impact a player negatively and the guy was exactly what they needed at the beginning of the season.
I’m also curious what forward they bring in. I believe Toffoli is the best fit, but I don’t believe Sweeney wanted to lose Bertuzzi and I think Bertuzzi kind of overplayed his hand. He seemed to fit better in Boston vs Toronto.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>I think that the Bruins either believe that there's value there or they don't. They need a center behind Charlie Coyle. I don't think that Boston would need to hedge their bets with the first. But I could be wrong. However, you're absolutely right that if the Bruins asked for a high draft pick, the Kings would back away.
It would have helped if I'd said "I disagree with the first half of point two."</div></div>
My perspective is it isn’t “there’s value or not”. PLD is overpaid, but he has talent to develop into his contract but not as a 3rd center.
I don’t believe a 2024 first is too high of a price, but I could see a 2025 2nd round pick and a good prospect as a compromise solution if Sweeney is a fan.
That said, I believe Boston is signing Elias Lindholm and trading Ullmark for a 1 round pick while freeing up cap room to resign Bertuzzi or DeBrusk

I don’t believe the Bruins would have interest in Chase Stillman. Hes a right shot, but outside of being a former first round pick; Im not sure he’s useful at Providence.
Bahl is a poor fit next to Peeke and my guess is NJ will value him higher than the Bruins. Hes a popular add in some of these deal and I don’t understand why. My guess is Boston would prefer Villen.

Using comps
Do you contemplate role on special teams in this equation. I don’t believe Boston can get a center to replace Coyle and a third is frankly a throwaway pick. I’d rather have it than not, but not trading a cost controlled 60 point center who is outstanding on true penalty kill for one.

The Bruins need a center who can win a faceoff and I don’t believe PLD is an upgrade there.
Long contract and level of overpay probably requires a 2024 first from LA and I’m not sure they do it then.
The Bruins are probably better off signing Lindholm or Stephenson plus trading Ullmark separately.
Coyle is a center and will be a top 6 line center barring massive improvement from Poitras

The % success rates suggest otherwise. I’d rather have a late first than a late 2nd/3rd any day of the week. In the NFL or NBA, I’m with you. In the NHL draft, not even a second thought even though I believe once you get past a specific number … the numbers diminish greatly and the Devils should be passed that number
Reportedly, they would have traded him but they weren’t going to take less than market and transitioned to Taylor Hall.

Don Sweeney basically treats late second round and third round picks as flyers on talented, raw players vs standard picks. I don’t see him looking for number of picks as opposed to quality of pick.
