Caps aren't giving up a million dollars for a 6th round pick. They need all the cap space they can use this summer to get this team out of the toilet.

I don’t see management moving Wilson nor do I think any team will want that contract. Ducks trade is pretty close though. Probably need another solid piece going to the ducks but it’s just about there.

Agreed. This is not the direction the caps need to go in. Mid to mid and losing cap space is a bad idea. And we’re giving up a very young and useful depth player in Malenstyn. You could convince me on a Jensen - Mikheyev swap, but the caps do not retain without significant compensation to do so.

agreed they shouldnt take mikheyev at 6.75. however he makes 4.75 so its more reasonable</div></div>
Retaining on Jensen effectively makes them take on Mikheyev at 6.75. So in other words, you agree this is a bad trade for the caps.

Lines can be shuffled for sure (Probably just swap Strome and PLD) but I think that these pieces could help for now and for the future. Marner won't waive for somewhere he wouldn't extend, and I'd like to believe DC is somewhere he'd consider staying.

Crazy Ideas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logicalicesports</b></div><div>Please burn this post. We need to start preparing for our future, not trading it away for a twilight run at the end of Ovi's career. Sure we should stay semi-competitive but this is shooting us in the foot getting rid of Ioiro, and good draft capital. (Sudz still could develop well but idk)</div></div>
I agree they should build for the future, but Marner and Dubois are young enough to be here for the next core (CMM Laps Leonard etc.) and also help the caps be competitive now, which we know will always be the goal while Ovi is around. I'd rather them do something like this rather than sit on their hands for another year.

Caps should definitely consider that trade especially if Oshie calls it a career. Jarnkrok would be perfect in the bottom 6.

I can’t see the caps moving dowd for anything less than a second rounder and I’d see them wanting a little more than that given the interest he garnered at the deadline. Granted if you waited until the deadline I’m sure the price goes down because it’s a shorter rental.

Offseason
Re: Reinhart - I think he's staying in FLA, so Marner is the best bet if he waives for DC and extends July 1st.
For Marner, I think it's gotta be a first rounder, a top prospect (Cristall likely, but if Suzdalev is good enough, great), a right-now RHD (Jensen or TVR), and probably a second rounder too. Pretty much what you have, but Dube and the third don't move the needle at all so just take them out. If Toronto asks for two firsts, pack it up and move on.

Best Case Scenario
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Value wise, I think that's a pretty good haul for Winnipeg for Perfetti, but I think the Jets would want a similar aged, similarly talented, already playing in the NHL player back for Perfetti.</div></div>
I hear you, just don't know what else the caps have that they're willing to give up that fits that. Iorio can play in the NHL right now - he looked solid in the limited minutes he played at the end of the season - but he's stuck behind Carlson, Jensen, TVR, and Bear on the depth chart. He's going to be a good middle pair defenseman, but he can already hold his own on the bottom pair. I think a full year in the NHL next season would be great for him, just don't think he's gonna get that in DC. If Winnipeg sees Iorio as a young right-now piece, maybe the trade works? But if the Jets want a forward, it's tough to find something that fits the bill you described from the caps.

Best Case Scenario
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GM_MZ_WSH</b></div><div>Beck shouldn't make more than $1million. He's good, but he played one season. I would really like Perfetti, but Iorio is a guy I would keep on the back end. We need to keep our young guys, and he's our best defensive prospect.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NARC311</b></div><div>I think you could almost cut the AAV on that Beck contract in half and he’d accept. Maybe give him 1.25M
Also I would imagine Philly would have re-signed Walker if the contract was that team friendly. I think the rumor was he wanted more term than they were comfortable with.
Big fan of the Perfetti & Duchene ideas</div></div>
21 points playing fourth line minutes is great. I think 1.75M would be fair for Beck. He's earned it with his play. I'm not convinced he can't be more than a fourth line guy, too. Three years at 1.75-2 is great to see what he is.
I'd honestly be willing to do 5x5 for Walker - he's exactly who they need right now, and if they structure the contract right, you can make the last year or two buyout friendly. And if you move out Iorio, Walker is a great replacement.

TVR at 3 mill for 2 years for moving down 1 round</div></div>
Also worth noting that TVR actually played LD for the caps consistently in the past and was good enough at it.

Waiting for Ovi
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Maybe, but is he really going to move the needle from what we already have in the pipeline?</div></div>
This would be a slam dunk value-wise for the Hawks but I understand where you're coming from. If the Hawks' goal is to improve, McMichael doesn't entirely move the needle much and they wouldn't be able to acquire him for this price anyway, so they'd be giving up a lot more assets for a middle six center. If their goal is to be bad, why would they trade for McMichael? They wouldn't.

I would for Kuemper due to the term and the fact that he’s not the starter anymore but not Jensen or Bear. And the most I’d give up would be a second.
