Don't think he fits on the Roster - (especially with his cap hit).
Sandin and Liljegren both need to be on the roster over Dermott too. Liljegren I think has a role on this team.

I said in the trade that Chicago will be involved eating up half of granlunds salary - which would pretty near fit him in the cap. Leafs would likely not have to give up much more than a 3rd to Chicago.

0.5 year of Granlund (1.63M cap hit) < 2.5 years of Kerfoot (2.7M owing)
So is Ekholm for Dermott, 1st, 2nd and B+ prospect not enough? Think back to the Muzzin trade, the leafs gave up a B+ prospect, a B prospect and a 1st....

In my opinion, Hall might be the biggest game-changer available at this TDL, at least at Forward. I'd rather pursue a player like Hall than one like Foligno or Palmeiri that isn't nearly as talented.
I think Hall would compliment Tavares and Nylander nicely... although Hall has struggled to put the puck in the net this season, all three of these guys have the ability to do so... or find the open man.
Wasn't aware that McCabe is out... thanks. I just really like McCabe's game too, and think he'd be an upgrade on Dermott.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Swagmaster</b></div><div>Why does he sign for that when by all reports he turned down 11 million per season</div></div>
He turned down 11 on a 7 or 8 year deal.
My proposal was 10.516 x 6.
He likely gets more than a 500K raise on his next deal, so its favourable to him. Especially since we'll likely have extra cash, since a 35 year old Tavares likely isn't due for a raise.

Oh, the irony...
You only have ELC bonsues carry over to the next season when your team exceeds the cap. This tends to happen most to teams who use a lot of LTIR.... However, in my proposed roster we have cap space above and beyond what was freed up from LTIR. This means we'd eat up the ~3 mil of ELC carry over from THIS season (Don't think Matthew's will hit his full bonuses due to injury) as well as ~3.5mil ELC bonus that may accumulate next season. This will leave very little ELC bonus carry-over for 2019/2020 when Matthews and Marner get their raises.

Are you suggesting a concussion prone Ekblad is worth more than Nylander + Gardiner? Thats fine, I'd sweeting the pot a bit... but Ekblad's potential is why I want in in the blue and white... HIs concussion history doesn't scare me, but I was thinking it would lower is trade value a little bit...

Not saying this is going to happen... just playing around a bit. Gardiner is traded in this scenerio. And we'd have enough capspace to sign Matthews and Marner.... Cap in 2019/2020 should be around 82 mil. In this scenerio, we have 12+ mil in cap space freed up + Horton on LTIR, + the ability to flip Marleau...

Nash, Tavares, +
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>So, many folks don't realize the that the Performance Bonuses and when they when/should be paid, and how Horton's salary is calculated affects the cap. So actually 2018/19 is about the tightest amount of money available.
There were "plenty" of money available for Matthews, Marner, Kapanen Borgman in 2019/20.
Actually if the Leafs wanted to Tavares and maybe he took only 10m or so, the Leafs could do. But it would mean trading Gardiner for instance next season.
It is virtually impossible to get rid of Marleau's contract, he has NMC. The only way it happens if he retires and then it's easy move to rid of the cap hit. But no reason why Marleau should retire. It will be last chance for a Cup.
Horton's contract is impossible to move. While other most other LTIRs are fully insured, a team with big cap room don't mind acquiring this type of player. Horton's LTIR is unique is that it uninsured, and the owners of the Leafs pay 5.25m out of pocket every year to him. No other team want that. That is the reason the Leafs were able to trade Clarkson for Horton years ago. The owner of Columbus didn't want to pay out of pocket 5.25m for Horton, they would rather pay 5.25m for Clarkson and have him play.</div></div>
We will have little-to-no ELC bonuses for 2019/2020 IF (and only if) we trade Horton. His contract IS tradeable, but we'll have to really sweeten the pot. Add a 1st + prospect/young player or something...
Marleau is going to get paid 1 million in his third season after his bonus in July. His contract will be very tradable IF he agrees to the trade.... A lot can happen between now and then, so we'll see. Regardless... we can probably keep Marleau too if we trade Horton this offseason...
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jfstompers</b></div><div>Like i said save the money for matthews</div></div>
We can afford both... and like I said above, we can probably even do it with Marleau (although it will be tight). Regardless, if Tavares is willing to sign with us in Free Agency, you do it... Its just propper asset management
2019/2020 with Marleau:
Hyman(2.25)-Matthews(10)-Nylander(6)
Grundstrom/Korshkov(0.925)-Tavares(10)-Kapanen(1.5)
Marleau(6.25)-Kadri(4.5)-Marner(6)
Johnsson(1)-Glendenning(1.8)-Brown(2.1)
Extra (0.975)
Rielly(5)-Rutta(3.5)
Dermott(0.863)-Zaitsev(4.5)
Borgman(1.5)-Liljegren(0.925)
Extras (2.75)
Andersen(5)
Sparks(0.75)
+ Kessel 1.2
+ Martin 0.75
+ 2 million ELC bonus carry-over (probably won't have our full 3.7, especially if we trade Horton).
This equals ~ 82 mil <- Realistic cap, especially if it increases to 80mil for next season.
