Draft Targets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DanielSan92</b></div><div>Has PIT made a decision yet on whether they're giving SJS '24 or '25?</div></div>
The pick is only top 10 protected. If Pittsburgh's pick fails to win the lottery, we get the pick. If it lands in the top 10, it becomes an unprotected 2025 1st round pick.

Home to San Ramon
As much as I want Auston to eventually wear teal, this trade is terrible for the Sharks. Losing the lottery pick we have that will be no lower than #3, Smith (who has been neck and neck with Celebrini in the NCAA), and an additional 1st round in 2025 is frankly too grave of a cost and I would absolutely hate for us to give all those hard earned assets up. The Sharks are much, much better off waiting a few seasons (until 2026 at the very least). Until then, this trade is a hard NO.

I know Kostin loves Edmonton, but Sharks don't want to a pylon in return. I'm not against a trade that involves upgrading the draft pick or sending an alternate player, but I think Sharks would decline this trade.

Dach Slafkovsky Type of Adds
I got love for Bords, but I'd do this trade if I was Mike. Gecko, Musty, and Gushchin are looking like our future Top 6 wingers going forward, and with Bystedt taking significant strides to being the 3C (Smith will surely be our 1C or 2C, depending on whether Chicago screws us ov... I mean the draft lottery), I'm not sure how much time Bords has left to prove himself within the Mid 6. I'd rather give a shot to a young D in Barron and I'd take this package.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Prime_Jimbo</b></div><div>Not opposed to this deal for Mikheyev but not the biggest fan of Kunin. What about Sturm or Kostin?</div></div>
Sturm is out of contract at the end of 24/25, so he'd probably be the player Mike might be more willing to trade away to make a trade with the Nucks happen. He's been the glue that held the team together in a really awful period for us, but if Bystedt is NHL ready then I could potentially see Sturm being shopped out.

F this day
I appreciate building the pool of prospects we have, and at least Grier is getting the drafting component of the GM job right. But this deadline day was beyond the pale, and honestly unforgivable if you're a sharks fan. It's basic expectations that your GM won't trade away players to rival teams or blow retention slots like they're going out of fashion. Alas this is EXACTLY what happened today.
An available GM like Jarmo is looking really nice to me now...

(CGY/VAN) - Lindholm for Kuzmenko, Brzustewicz, Jurmo, 2024 1st (VAN), 2024 4th (VAN)
It's hard to say whether Kuzmenko will rebound to his freshman year. But even so, two defensive prospects, a 2024 1st and a 4th in itself is a massive overpay for Lindholm. Lindholm is a top 6 player, sure, but worth a 1st, a 4th, and Brzustewicz who projects to be an NHL-caliber offensive defenseman?! For a forward who should be a 2nd and a 3rd or maybe a 1st round alone? Holy overpay Batman, the Flames are making out this one like bandits.

Leafs fan helping Oilers make playoffs
This may get us a first but 3 years of sloppy soup would be a nonstarter, at least not without additional draft capital coming our way (I'm talking of at least an additional 2nd round pick). If anything, the Sharks should further shed bad contracts to add more cap room for the youngsters, not add another awful contract to the books. Sharks say no thanks.

Unless the Sharks can find a way to banish Armia to Robidas Island, I don't think they'd do this. Yes they'd save cap for this season, but Armia has an additional year left on his deal and I don't see the Sharks wanting him to take a spot that could be filled by a youngster in the Cuda or juniors.

Manson for Benning
Sharks have more than enough defensemen as is on the farm system, many of whom will need opportunities at the NHL level soon. Manson would block their opportunities, so this trade doesn't make sense from a personnel and development perspective.
This is actually a reasonable offer for Benning but for the reasons mentioned above, Sharks would probably decline.

Swapping Outskirts
If the Nucks are interested in Benning, a 3rd/4th round pick in itself should be enough.
I know the Sharks have more than their fair share of pylons already so I don't think they'll be looking to add Myers even if he's meant to be filler for the cap. I do think Labanc should move on since Mike and Quinn are both clearly through with him (and have much shorter leashes with players than DW did), but I think that should be in a separate trade at a different time.

I have love for Sturm, but I'd do that trade if I were Grier. Would help our rebuild by adding another 1st round pick (even if late or end of 1st), and it would open up spots for youngsters to step into.

Garland traded
I actually like Garland, but his contract wouldn't make sense for the Sharks to take on without Vancouver retaining a portion of his salary or attaching a pick to compensate. If the Canucks are willing to retain 1.5M, then I think the Sharks would consider this. However, with Musty and Gushchin in our farm system, Garland would only take a spot from them in the bigs. Overall, I don't think our team would make a lot of sense for Garland to be traded to at this time.

Given the Sharks are already retaining EK65 and Burnzie, we only have one remaining spot for salary retention. This trade would thus be impossible to do, and I don't think JT would be willing to waive his NMC for a rebuilding team. We'd also much rather have additional draft picks pending on who the Leafs are asking for from our team than taking on Tavares' contract at this time.

This would be a terrible trade for the Sharks. We are finally replenishing the farm system, and the last thing the Sharks need to do in their rebuild is trade away top picks. I love to have Pettersson in teal, but I'd much rather us get him as a UFA and not via a trade that would lose us draft capital.

2c for Boston
This trade makes sense in terms of adding a proper 1A goalie to a franchise that has suffered from bad goaltending for years now. It does seem that Couture may look for a trade in the offseason, but we'll be out of retention slots given we're already on the books for Burns and EK65. This is fair for all sides to be clear, but the loss of a likely 1st rounder and losing flexibility over retention wouldn't be the best outcome for SJ's side.

This is a great deal for the Sharks. I almost feel bad about how lopsided this deal would be, and I'm most certain Sharks would have to give up assets for Vanecek. As proposed though? Hell yes, the Sharks would accept.

Sharks only have a single spot for retention left, but Duclair's out of contract at the end of this season anyway. And a 1st plus a 5th isn't a bad return at all. Jury's out for me, but this is a trade I could see the Sharks accepting.

Yeah, Sharks don't do that trade. Reim's form dropped like a stone in his final year in SJ, and his antics re: pride jerseys pretty much made him a persona non grata for a market known for valuing the LGBTQ community.

This is an awful deal for the Sharks' end. No first-round picks and we get saddled with Granlund's bad contract and one of the worst pylons in the league in Ristolainen WITHOUT either Pitt or Philly retaining for their salaries. And this is with us retaining salary for EK65? Ha! Yeah, this would lead me to block Dubas' and Briere's numbers if I was Mike.

I guess he'll be used in the 2nd or 3rd D lines once EK65 gets traded out, but wouldn't he just take a spot that could be earned by a youngster in Juniors or in the Cuda? I mean, his cap hit isn't bad and it seems like he'll be missed in Vancouver if reactions here are anything to go by, but I'm curious about the thought process behind this signing.

I can't see him getting too many games but it's good to have people who can protect youngsters and finish fights if need be. With Gecko coming in and potentially Gushchin, Bords, Muk or Bystedt, last thing we want is for someone from Vegas or LA injuring them (like what Brown did to Hertl in the latter's rookie year). Can't complain.
