Dallas Stars signed Ty Dellandrea (1 Year / $900,000 AAV)
With the moves and cuts that happen during training camp, I can see him getting picked up if he's ever placed on waivers!

Carolina Hurricanes signed Ethan Bear (1 Year / $2,200,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>Maybe I'm just peculiar, but I find it odd that Bear, who was rumored to be on the discard pile, gets $2.2 million and the all-universe-touted Kappo Kakko gets $2.1 million.</div></div>
Different GMs (for sure), different agents (likely), and different team dynamics (duh) -- but let's not forget different roles (Bear is D, Kakko is F) and ages (Bear is 25, Kakko is 21) so their respective salary maths are gonna differ.
I guess they're entirely different situations!

It's a one-way deal, so he'd have to clear waivers (and still get paid NHL salary). With his flow's attitude, he'd surely get picked up by teams short of depth (WPG, BUF, ARI, CHI)

And nobody is talking about <strong>Montreal buying out Alzner</strong>!? FINALLY!
MB is managing cap space for re-signing RFAs and picking up prospects in the draft. He'll be making several more trades before training camp, so nobody should worry that the rosters are somehow locked in.

San Jose Sharks signed Patrick Marleau (1 Year / $700,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brian2016</b></div><div>Was Marleau holding out for more money? $700k is pretty low considering he'd be playing for over $6M if the Leafs/Canes hadn't bought him out. You'd have to think he was asking for Thornton money, right?</div></div>
I'm 500% certain he was not waiting by the phone. He's a known factor/veteran presence to any team and obviously qualified for 35+ veteran contract terms. His buyout became his golden parachute (read: nest egg contribution) and now he's just getting league veteran minimum.

Winnipeg Jets signed Patrik Laine (2 Years / $6,750,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JonJon</b></div><div>And you know this from what?</div></div>
If he doesn't produce 1 solid campaign to merit his 2-yr deal, then he won't get his 9-11M AAV on the next deal... he'll stay in the 5-8M AAV window to round out his career. He wouldn't be the first star to fade away after a few disappointing years [if he doesn't produce].
Thus, his current $ and his prospects for future $$ is Laine's #1 motivator to produce. He's not the all-around kinda hockey player (defense, offense, cup-winning, on-/off-ice captaincy sorta thing)...... yet.

Winnipeg Jets signed Patrik Laine (2 Years / $6,750,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CoraStorm</b></div><div>then why didnt montreal offer at least Aho's contract:
8.454 over 5 years with 91% signing bonus... to make it easier for Tampa / Toronto fans n such: 8 mil 5 years = 40 x 90 % sign bonus... Point takes home 36 mil n it costs Montreal value of 8 mil offer, get my drift? at 15% escrow, Point takes home 39.4.... how much is Point's signing bonus, now do his actual contract using 15% escrow on base salary.</div></div>
MTL offer sheet (front-loaded signing bonus) was meant to squeeze CAR ownership to pay Aho in cold, hard cash. So from a structure standpoint, it's not comparable.
As for Laine, I agree that he's gonna arbitrate very hard in 2 years (or get traded before then). He's just gotta produce 1 solid campaign to earn a $9M AAV -- and $ is his #1 motivator. Clearly it's not his defensive skills.

Hahaha! Overvalued contract! He's their new franchise D but he's also trade/expansion-draft bait! This extension doesn't kick in yet, and if he tanks he can get released pretty easily in the next couple years.
You read it here first, SEA will want to pick him up since he's not protected by a NMC at that time.

Because it was the same player, it became a $833K cap circumvention in 19-20... but he gets $1.166M in extra money both this year and next (so 3M overall) even w/o a 20-21 contract.
....... or he's now trade stock for CGY to re-tool.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CSickmann</b></div><div>Well... there is a reason why Spooner is no longer in the League and why i didn't work in New York, Edmonton or Vancouver. Can't be just that Julien hate young players (which I doubt anyway due to recent Memory.)</div></div>
With a 3G/6A/-12 stat line, at $4M AAV, he became the quintessential "overpriced pylon." He'll probably play in Europe for 1-2 years before any NHL team risks signing him again.
BUT Charles Hudon is not Spooner... he's not overpriced at $800k... especially since he'll get traded as a +1 to any other deal in the works.
