Bottom Out
Caps accept this. Chesley might turn out to be a good top 4 defenseman but there’s a chance that doesn’t happen. The cap savings and offensive impact Barabanov brings over mantha are worth it imo. Also, all three of our NHL RHD are signed for three years, Iorio should be full time by 24-25 and he looks really good, and the caps have a thing for building their defense through trades and free agency. Everything adds up to this making sense for the caps.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>I like Evans but Calgary can't afford him at 1.7M. Plus we already have our own guy like him in Ruzicka</div></div>
Not really the same
Its like comparing Drouin to Domi
One's clearly a Winger who can play all positions well enough but isnt a bonafide Center for a reason.
The other is a Forward who worked his way to becoming a Bonafide Center for a reason .
The Difference ? Production , Role and ability to succeed.
That said Your guy >Than our guy in terms of Value .
With your guy there's still upside but with ours he's a bottom 6 Center and leader who's a good PK guy , He'll only improve on what he's already expanded on.
Its basically Middle 6 vs Bottom 6 which there's a varying divide on value wise but in this case i'd say its basically an even swap cause CGY is Cap F'd .
Atleast from a Buisness POV as AR is a Arbitration eligible RFA after next season and earned a signifigant raise Arbitration will give him .
MTL can pay that , not even an issue plus we dont need Evans with Owen Beck Arriving in a few months .

Slafkovsky, Barron and Harris are Laval bound, Guhle has earned a roster spot and Kovacevic needs to be on the roster or the Jets will claim him right back. Also Armia is injured and likely to miss the start of the season.

Disagree.
Monahan has needed surgery for years, surgery he is finally getting, and could be a legitimate bounceback candidate.
If he bounces back, OTT can deal him at the deadline for a pick. If he doesnt, he is just a vet C to play 3/4C.
Overpaid, but this move has upside.

REBUILD - Phase 2 Realistic trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Yeah that’s what they are willing to give up at 50% retained.
Also if Price were so good, why do MTL fans continually trade him.
years ago the Avs had the worst record in the NHL, and how many cups has Price won. MTL fans are such revisionist, Price has a good 2.5month run and all the sudden he is vintage pre-disastrous contract.</div></div>
Can't speak for everyone, but the ONLY reason I want to trade him, is so he can win a cup. I'm not looking to dump him or get rid of his contract, or I'd be giving him away and it wouldn't have to be to a contender.
I'd even take him back at no charge if that team ever wanted to get out of his contract early. Give him 2 or 3 years somewhere else, rebuild while he's away, then bring him back.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alex_ouellet</b></div><div>I think that montreal should rebuild. What do u think?</div></div>
Simply using the word rebuild illicit’s all kind of reactions out of people. Before going to that word, let’s visit why people are talking about it.
Montreal lost key leadership pieces, Weber (captain) Danault, Perry, price, Byron (assistant captain) , edmundson. So you have #1 goalie, #1 & 3 d-man, shut down centre, pk specialist with speed and the old owl in Perry. That is a lot of leadership and 30% of your roster.
No NHL team loses a 1/3 of their team and doesn’t have bumps the following season. No police force, fire department, nurses, school staff loses 30% and not feel the vacuum, so it’s going to take time.
I told my youngest son that’s 21, before the first game, that Montreal will be terrible until after Christmas, then improve.
Montreal has some nice pieces and I wouldn’t go for a full rebuild. I would definitely move some players for picks and or prospects. Also people fall in love with certain players for various reasons. They must learn to put their emotions aside. Take for example Kulak, people love his skating and fluid puck movement. But he only generates 0.17% on offence. That is extremely terrible. With that percentage he should be a 5 or 6 d-man but usually you want those types to be either a massive bruising dman or a PP specialist should you not have that in your top four. Which is why Montreal signed wideman. So he looks like a top four, skates like a top four but produces like a 3rd pair that doesn’t hit or drop the gloves.
So Kulak is easy to coach against. He won’t hurt you with hits or points but will skate a lot. He looks good but in the end, he won’t hurt you.
I don’t want to make this too long but I would move certain players for sure and surround the new core with the right players.

Look at what Kane will get after his buyout this summer. He’ll have no leverage to demand anything LIKE what he wants because his reputation proceeds his abilities.</div></div>
In junior? My buddy coached him in sarnia and loved him. They only traded him to the Soo, because they knew they wouldn’t go far in the playoffs and another buddy coached him in the soo and loved him. The Soo really wanted him and they offered a great package for him.
Listen I come on capfriendly to have fun because I still enjoy the game and have friends that coach or former players I coached. People with strong opinions come on here and spew information they got from the media. They rarely have inside and accurate information.
I remember when Ryan O’Reilly wanted out of Buffalo and some guy on capfriendly was calling Ryan a “cancer” in the locker room. Ryan was at my house earlier that day eating his favourite meal that my wife has made for him each time he came over, since 2007. I chuckled when I saw the cancer comment because I knew the individual personally.
I’m not here to puff out my chest or get into arguments with anyone. I’ve been in hockey since 1972 and I simply have a love for the game. If you don’t like Anthony that is fine. All the best and good day!

Since the Canes don't resign KK and Montreal still need a middle 6 center. Montreal offers KK 3 Mil x 3 years, KK accepts and everyone is happy again lol. (Wishful thinking I know, I just like the kid lol)

I would personally run EP40, Zib, Backstrom, and JEE down the middle, and have Backlund as the extra. Or move EP to the wing and Lindholm to the middle. Then have Rakell or Arvidsson as the other winger

USA olympics
A few things, Jack Hughes should probably be replaced with somebody like Brock Nelson, J.T. Miller, Dylan Larkin, or Kevin Hayes (lots of options). It would make sense to replace one of the 6 RHD with a center, the depth there runs dry quickly without any extras. I'd want to find a way to get Pacioretty in the lineup, but that's more of a problem with the team being so evenly spread with great players. Team USA is looking real good!

For me, easily Danault. Speedy center and Generates chances. One of the best two way players in the game right now.

This is a tough one. Danault is very good defensively and someone I'd trust to shut down a top line. But Hyman's just a bulldog, and he's such a unique player. I would probably pick Hyman by a slight margin, but there's really no wrong answer here

I'd say Danault simply because centers are more rare than wingers. Both player are great, but I think Hyman has been benefiting from playing with Matthews/Marner at some point. Give an edge to Danault defensive wise and an edge to Hyman offensive wise. That being said Hyman has been better this year than Danault

I'd say Hyman.
Phil Danault is a great defensive C, and his underlying offensive generation is very good, but he's so completely ineffective when it comes to finishing chances that it totally undercuts his effectiveness.
Hyman isn't the defensive player Danault is (really not even close), but he generates high danger offense extremely well, and what puts him ahead of Danault for me is that he actually finishes on chances. It's all well and good to generate high xG and stuff, but at the end of the day, actually scoring goals matters.

Who means more to their team? Hyman
Who do I trust to shut down a top center? Danault.
If forced to sign one of these tomorrow, who do I pick? Hyman.
Both of these players are product of extreme overrating by their respective media and fanbases, but generally are underrated outside of that.
I think Hyman continues to get better with time, but Danault is declining from a peak last year. His defensive ability got selke votes, but he has looked like a shell of that player this year. Certainly not worth the contract he was asking before this season. Hard to assess who is "better" as it depends on so much. They overlap in some areas, other areas one is more skilled than the other.
I personally think Hyman has a better future than Danault, though Danault has the best overall single season peak.

Best goalies THIS season
You can argue all day about where each of these guys should be in relation to each other, and that's without even beginning to factor in the value of the economic difference between the guys on minimum contracts (Petersen, Lankinen, Driedger) and the heavy hitters (Vasilevskiy, Fleury, Hellebuyck). Suffice it to say that this is surely 10 of the best starting goalies this year, and I at least have no one to add.
Note that three of them still don't have new contracts for next year.
