first time doing this - did not get 21-22 contracts met
Also, I don't know every team at the same level so I may have left someone unprotected I should have protected or missed someone I should've picked.

Potential off-season yes this is super early
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>As good as poulin is in the Q, I don’t think he’s ready for NHL prime time next year. POJ hasn’t been great in the AHL either</div></div>
I don't know that any of them will stick in the NHL I'm just saying they could be given somewhere in the 5-7 game range to play with the big boys and really see what they need to keep working on at the NHL level. I think Poulin has the best chance of sticking around if he can find some chemistry with someone. I think POJ is the least likely to get a shot but giving him a few games probably wouldn't hurt all that much. Addison I think gets a shot for sure if we lose Schultz. With Letang being RHD1 and Marino looking like he can be RHD2 I don't see the pens signing a more expensive RHD that would for sure make the team over Addison.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AFOX10900</b></div><div>Poulin won't be ready (or all that close) next year, he'll follow at best a similar development pattern to POJ (two years in Jr+at least 1 in the A) and neither Addison or POJ are our most NHL ready d spec, that goes to Almari imo, he's looked really really good and time I've watched him, and we'll have Addison Hallander and POJ (and Puustinen ?) all (hopefully) tearing up the AHL next year (with Militec) then possibly all of them could be NHL ready the year after (Hallander Addison POJ* Puustinen maybe and Miletic probably sees some call up time next year) then you have Poulin and Legare a year later</div></div>
Yeah I can get behind that. I wouldn't be entirely shocked if they wanted to give Addison specifically a shot (like the first 5-7 games of the season) due to losing Schultz. I think POJ probably isn't ready but again I think maybe giving him a couple games wouldn't be the worst idea. Poulin is the one who might be able to stick IMO if he can find some chemistry on the big squad. So I think Addison and POJ both wont stay with the team but I think they might get a shot at the start of the season. If Poulin has what it takes to stay then great but if he doesn't I'd rather they send him back down to develop.

I tend to sign them to higher contracts just to account for any fluctuation. I went with $5M with McCann because of the 5-year deal and how well he has stepped up for the pens. Kahun I signed to a contract similar to what rust got. Petterson I find difficult, I think 3.5-4 is fair over 3 years but I could also see the pens wanting to go longer-term with him.

Penguins Thoughts
1. Absolutely agree. I would like to see Jarry get around 30 games this year and really see what he can do. I think in the offseason the pens may need to look at a Jarry or Murray trade depending on what each of their asking price will be but I hope they can keep both.
2. I definitely think Galch with Sid is worth looking at. If he can't find the back of the net I think that the pens will look to trade him by the deadline.
3. 100% agree with that. McCann is our 3C. It's unfortunate that Bjugstad hasn't exactly worked for us but I think he is worth keeping around for a playoff push if a good deal doesn't come across.
4. I think Schultz is absolutely gone after this season with Marino looking the way he has. Definitely worth keeping around for the playoffs although I wouldn't be surprised with a trade if the pens get someone on a cheaper and longer deal.
5. I don't think JJ has been terrible this year. However, I think if you can trade him you have to. There are players that can do what he does for significantly cheaper.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>I don't think it's bad but I don't think they need to do all this.
I'd rather not bring in Benn and let Almari or Rikkola start as the 3rd pairing LHD.
Ennis and Pääjärvi, don't really need to be signed.
Bjorkqvist, Hallander , Almeira, Pavlychev. Any one of those players would probably be better choices.
It's not like they are all 18. The only young player there is Hallander. But he's a strong player on the puck and this team needs to follow other teams in playing their best young players.</div></div>
I agree with Ennis not being needed, but it would still be nice.
Pääjärvi I think is worth a shot, he put up 11 goals and 19 points on a bad ottawa team so i think he could put up slightly better numbers with the pens. But yeah he isn't needed.
I think giving some of the home grown talent a shot is a good idea as well, it's just nice to have a few vets that can play if they aren't quite ready.
But all in all I agree they don't need to do all of this but some of it would be nice to see in my opinion.

Acquiring picks and staying competitive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>biglite351</b></div><div>I do chuckle when people trade Kessel because of age/contract ($6.8M until 34yo) and then do something like give Zuccarello $7M until 37yo. ... and they don't even notice that they are doing it.</div></div>
I didn't trade him cause of his age or his contract. I traded him to get assets, like the title suggests, and then signed Zucc to replace the hole Kessel would leave if he were traded to stay competetive... which again, the title suggests.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mikearky</b></div><div>Toronto does not make this deal because it does not in any way solve their cap issues. It is almost dollar for dollar trade and they still do not have enough to sign all the RFA's.
Pesce last night looked very good with Slavin, not sure they want to break that up.</div></div>
Toronto needs a RHD, They are a good team, they will be by the cap no matter what.
Faulk is also an option from Carolina, I would just prefer Pesce if at all possible.

How is the trade with JJ bad. You give up Jarry and let Carolina move up the draft a few picks for them to take that contract. The Hub trade is pretty fair as well, maybe a little too much. You get younger, shed cap and get better defensively in exchange for an aging Kessel at almost 7M a C level prospect at best and a late first. It might be more fair if you give up a 2nd instead of a first but really its not that big of a difference.

Jets offseason again
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DantheRangerMan</b></div><div>Great fantasy but come on, you can't believe half of these contracts. Patrik Laine will about 2.5 million more. Jacob Trouba you're almost a million short. Kyle Connor's contract will probably be very close to what William Nylander got (6.9 mill). Kevin Hayes was willing to take a hometown discount from the Rangers for 6 mil x 6yrs, he's not going to sign for less with with shorter term. All together you're undervaluing your players by over 5 million. If the Jets could only afford to offer Laine 5.5 mil for 3 years, some team will gladly give up a first, second, & third rd pick for Laine at 8 mil a year</div></div>
I would not give laine that much if I had a gun to my head. And he can only be offered sheeted if he makes it to July 1st. Honestly might even look to trade him. Trouba I don't think deserves much more than I gave him. Connor yeah obviously I gave him too little I even mentioned it, holding out hope he signs for a little less than he deserves. If Hayes wants 6 you can probably give him that.

potential offseason with moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>Kessel maybe an aging player but a 31 year old kessel is still a better player than a 25 year old Huberdeau. Giving up a prospect and a pick on top of it is losing the trade.
If I'm going to ship Kessel out somewhere it's to a team on the cusp of making a push or one that is already making one. That way I get a better return and don't have to pretend I have to add to a trade while giving up the best player in the trade.</div></div>
I disagree. Hub may not put up the goals but he is certainly an upgrade defensively. you're getting younger and shedding some cap as well. I think adding the low level prospect is just that and the first is what puts it over the edge.

I think Kelfbom would be a solid pickup for the pens. I definitely think Maatta could be in that deal as well. Probably Maatta + Bellerieve or something similar. I would also try and acquire Puljujarvi while talking to Edmonton.
