Realistic Blackhawks Offseason
I already know Jets fans are gonna hate that Zadorov deal. It’s hard to really know how front offices value him. The eye test community hates him and the analytics community thinks he’s just “fine”. Reichel and a 2nd seems a little much for me but I think that the team fit makes a lot of sense. The contracts seem fair to me, Hagel might get less (even though he’s definitely worth 2) and Suter might get more but I think it’s pretty fair. I think you can get more than just Bear for Strome and I also think anything that takes icetime from Boq is not in the best interest of our team. I do think a full year on the top pair in Rockford for Beaudin and Mitchell might be the best plan at least for the first couple months. No need to rush them when their rookie performance was only okay. I also think Kurashev might be an AHL 1C option too. Rather him do that than play on our 4th line because it would be a great opportunity to rebuild some confidence he seemed to lose by the end of the season. Overall, fairly accurate, but I also think the hawks should look to weaponize more cap. They have 15 mil in space after what you put together so I think they can get Neal in the bear Strome deal and also get a great pick or prospect from EDM.

Strome would be a huge get for EDM in terms of getting a very good middle six center. It's not like Bear is some crazy good prospect, but he's a decent player. Do I think he's going to be a 2nd pairing dman? Totally possible, but I think at the worst he's a very good 3rd pairing dman which is still good.

Any time I see "Realistic" in the AGM title I always assume it's anything but, most of the time I'm right, but I have a hard time finding anything really wrong with those trades although I'll wait to see what WPG fans say. They have a very mixed response when you send them LD's. lol

This is a hot take but Crow was a top 10 goalie this past season. Obviously his age and injury concerns should bring his value down a bit. I just don’t think you can really let Crow go.</div></div>
He'll stay a Hawk, he has publically stated he's willing to take a discount to stay

Not entirely. Hawks can give him a qualifying offer for 1 year and still own his RFA rights. Strome isn't arbitration eligible so not much he can do besides sit out.

Kubalik isn't getting quite that much for 2 years, I'd say $4M or maybe $4.25M. Crow won't get that either IMO, $4M is the ceiling on 2 years and if he doesn't sign, Hawks look elsewhere. Also think Mitchell gets paired with Keith and Boqvist with De Haan. Maatta will get bought out if Hawks have to retain $1M; his buyout is $680K
Minor stuff but otherwise this is probably likely unfortunately. Decent roster, probably gets a wild card but not enough to do any real damage.

19-20 Projected Blackhawks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SevenLeg</b></div><div>The top 6 should be :

Not happening. Each line has to have a forward willing to play defense and that 2nd line doesn't; they will score a lot but give up a lot. For that reason, as several beat writers have pointed out, Shaw is a real possibility on the 2nd line.
Top line isn't going to consist of 2 rookie wingers...that's just bad management. Nylander also hasn't shown squat. The guy is going to be in the AHL unless he breaks out at training camp or the preseason but so far has shown nothing to indicate he's a top line winger...or 2nd line winger or should be in a NHL lineup. It's foolish to think that will change until proven so.
Kubalik is intriguing and could be lighting in a bottle but again, giving him top line minutes? I get he had a breakout tournament at the Worlds but that's not the NHL and he's never played on NA ice and of course in the NHL...give him 3rd line minutes and see how he does. I think he's going to be a better version of Kahun and because of that may very well end up being on the 1st line.
More likely lines;
Saad (Perlini/Sikura) - Toews - Kane
Cat - Strome - Shaw
Kubalik - Kampf - Perlini/Sikura (Saad)
Smith - Carpenter - Caggs
Everything I'm reading from the beat writers say Kampf will get the 3C if Dach doesn't make it and most think he won't.

It's nice to finally have some flexibility again. It's already been announced that Kane will spend a lot of his time (at least at first) with Toews on the first line, with the left-winger open and possibly interchangable, although the stats don't like with Caggs playing there.
It 's just painful and hard to swallow having a third line that costs $10 million when the second line only costs under $3 million.

I’m intrigued. I doubt we could get that much for Perlini, even from Edmonton. But otherwise, everything else seems thoughtful and plausible, I like it a lot

I'm going to say yes because it's not a no. He's been decent. I don't think he'll be a top 6 forward, but I could see him being a role player.

Hayes Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeukeBOOM</b></div><div>San Jose lost out on Taveras. They are in a desperate need of a center. Hayes is someone they can sign long term after this season. Hayes fits the mold of a SJS center, big body, soft hands and plays good defense.</div></div>
Yes, they didn't get Tavares, but they have Cotuure, Thornton, Pavelski, Tierney to play center. They weren't looking for Tavares BECAUSE he was a center. They were trying to bring him in because he is a really good player that would have helped the team.
I'm fine bringing in Hayes, and I think he would fit well on the Couture line (as a winger). Timo Meier is not what you are going to give up to get him. That is a huge overvalue of Kevin Hayes. Likely, it will be a guy like Chris Tierney. Tierney is a great 3rd line center, who the Rangers might see as a future #2. The Sharks could see him the same way, but Hayes is a better player right now. Hayes could be the #2 in SJ when Thornton can't do it anymore. Tierney + prospects/picks would be the more realistic route.

You can be over the cap with bonuses. The Hawks have been over with bones for like three years in a row. It carries over to next years cap hit, hence the "other" dollar term.
