Nice idea to get Dubois and Hellebucyk. I don't think you would get one of them for that package, let alone both, though.

I agree that Asplund is too good to sit. My thinking is just that Bonino is an upgrade over Eakin. How the lines shake-out is TBD as injuries happen. A healthy Asplund will play 70 plus games on multiple lines with multiple partners.
I think you are right on the cost for Demelo. Hard to know Portillo's value.

FAIR Eichel trade to NYR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>Sabres shouldn't trade Johnson or give the Rangers anything other then Eichel.</div></div>
Fair enough. But my view is that the trade proposed here is more than what the Sabres will get for Eichel from any team. One of the pieces, other than Kaako, would need to come out.

FAIR Eichel trade to NYR
The return is almost precisely what I want in an Eichel trade. It provides a potential elite player in Kaako, two good potential futures in Schneider and the 1st and it also addresses a couple of immediate needs (centre depth and goaltending). I think it is likely one piece too many though; as a Sabres fan I had proposed the same return from the Rangers with the Sabres adding left shot d-prospect Ryan Johnson.

Sabres' fan here. In general I can't say that we, as a group, lack patience. We do occasionally lack patience with our prospects though. Of the 5 draft changes presented on this armchair GM team, only Comtois in exchange for Davidsson is a done deal. We may need to wait a decade to make a final call on the other 4.

You may be right. I suspect though that I don't need to remind you that the Avs have $25 million in cap space and need to re-sign Makar and Landeskog and find a Stanley Cup capable goalie. They also have 3 draft picks in 2021. Something has to give. Maybe the value isn't quite there in my proposal. The Avs will need to move someone other than whomever they lose in the XD.

You might be right. I do think you could get Compher for a mid-round pick.
I would go Buffalo's 2nd and a 5th. I think 32 OA is high for Graves, so 32 OA and a 5th for both would be good value. It gets the Avs some needed picks and cap space.

Sabres fan here. I make that trade. 3OA has real value and I like Steel. I think Steel still has offensive upside and there is no way that he would start in Buffalo behind Asplund at centre. If so, he moves to right wing.

2021-2022 MN Wild Go For Eichel
Sabres' fan here. I love the Wild as a trade partner for Eichel.
I would add Rask (no retention) to the trade with Buffalo, the Sabres send Montreal's 3rd to the Wild and the Sabres get both 1st round picks (Pit and Min).
To the Wild: Eichel and Montreal's 3rd 2021
To the Sabres: Dumba, Fiala, Rask, Minnesota's 1st 2021 and Pittsburgh's 1st 2021.

If you want to get crazy and one-stop shop, add Reinhart and Dumba to the deal.
To the Wild: Eichel, Reinhart
To the Sabres: Fiala, Greenway, Rask, Rossi, Dumba, 1st in 2021.

Sabres fan here.
The Sabres will have cap-space and a need for centres who can play in 2021-22. What if they replaced the 2022 1st with Rossi and added Rask to the deal.
Fiala, Greenway, Rask, Rossi, 1st in 2021 for Eichel.
This is on the assumption that Rask holds negative value in a trade otherwise.

As a Sabres fan, I make that trade.
I would prefer Stephenson over Glass, if possible.
Before the trade I am working out a deal to send Lehner to Pittsburgh for Jarry+. Lehner doesn't have to go through a moment of being a Sabre again. Jarry would be a decent 1B to a re-signed Ullmark.

Yeah, the Oilers need goalies. Therefore, if Koskinen was worth a 3rd round pick the Oilers would just be keeping him.

Eichel trade wild side
That's a good effort for Eichel, I think. You are probably at least one good piece short though.
Greenway for Olofsson is likely a fair 1 for 1, with two players who are good at different things.
Beckman is what the Sabres would need to justify taking back Rask. While Rask had a nice bounce back year, before the playoffs, he is more likely to revert to being a $4,000,000 healthy scratch than he is to being a player who can fill top 6 centre minutes for the Sabres.
That leaves Rossi and 2 firsts for Eichel. That's a good start, but I think you are at least one really good piece short, likely Fiala or Dumba. The Sabres would probably want Boldy of course.

I'm not suggesting the Blues would make the deal, but you are undervaluing Bryson. If the Blues were looking to save cap space next year and wanted a puck moving D-man to replace Dunn in the deal, then Bryson would be a good option. A 2nd and a good young puck moving D-man is a decent return for Dunn. If he was worth more he would have been dealt already.

Sabres fan here.
The Vancouver trade, maybe. Holtby backing up Ullmark would be ok, though Holtby's #'s the last two years are not great. Virtanen seems like more of what the Sabres already have in their middle six wingers.
The Calgary trade is a definite yes, but is not close to what Calgary would need to move Tkachuk. Take out Calgary's 1st coming back to Buffalo and the value is still off.

Trade Deadline and Off-season part 1
As a Sabres fan, I'm ok with the FLA and STL trades, though I'm not thrilled about sending Risto to a team that is likely in our division next year.
It's a big no from me on the NYI and TOR trades.
Komorov doesn't do enough good things at this point to warrant taking him for a year. If it was expiring, sure.
I'm not giving Ullmark up for a late 2nd round. I understand the Sabres aren't in the mix this year and that UIllmark is a UFA. Still, they have many young players who have not had a lot of winning at the NHL level. Finishing the season playing .500ish hockey the rest of the way with Ullmark will be more valuable to those players than the 60th pick in the 2021 draft.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>Add tuch. You'd have to add money anyways.</div></div>
I agree. Though this is a projection to 2 years out, the picks are 21 and 22, so the trade is happening before this year's draft.
Vegas is the sleeper team for Eichel. If they fall short of winning the cup, I think there may be a move to add a franchise-level centre. The proposal here is good, but falls a couple of pieces short I think. Glass, at this point, carries some risk. Krebs is nice. The two firsts are likely to be in the bottom 8 of the draft and quite likely in the 28-32 range. These are good, but coming from Vegas they might as well be two 2nds. I would add Tuch and Stephenson.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dzmets</b></div><div>Who is it that the Sabres should be afraid of Seattle taking in the expansiond draft that they should want to retain salary and give up a second round pick? Miller can be serviceable for one more year as the 6/7 the dman if Seattle chooses to select someone else or the Sabres cannot move an asset.</div></div>
Well, the Sabres as of now need to decide between 7-3-1 or 8-1 in the expansion draft. Barring a trade, 7-3-1 would require they expose Risto, Jokiharju or Borgen on D. All I think they would prefer to keep over Miller. If they go 8-1 and protect those 3 D-men plus Dahlin, then they would need to expose either Mittelstadt or Olofsson along with Thompson. The Sabres might prefer to just expose Risto or Borgen. My view is that they would prefer to keep both. I could be wrong.

Slow and Steady
Thanks for the comments guys. A few points in response:
- The Colorado trade is based on comments on other forums from Avalanche fans. Whether Sakic views things this way is another thing, but there seems to be interest there in getting rid of Compher's contract. At this point, Hall perhaps does not return a first; maybe he does if they take back Compher. For the Sabres, Compher's contract is not hard to swallow and he is a decent bounce back candidate.
- This is not worse than this year's team. The young players will be a year better. They will have a legitimate NHL calibre coach and NHL calibre goaltending. Eichel should be healthy. Of course, injuries could happen again, but there is no predicting that.
- The lines aren't actual lines. This is next year. Teams don't have 4 lines that they roll with for 82 games. This is a depth chart. Okposo could slide down or out of the line-up depending on how he is playing. Reinhart, Compher and Asplund could all find themselves on the wing at times with Mittelstadt, Cozens or Lazar moving to center. Youngsters not on the active roster like Quinn, Peterka, Ruotsalainen or the draft pick (Beniers?) could have an impact.
- I admit that the 90+ points comment is likely wishful thinking. But that is failing to see the forest for the trees. The point here is not to commit to anything you'll regret later. Since before Eichel was drafted the Sabres have tried one short-cut after another (trading for Kane and Bogosian, trading for O'Reilly and Lehner, signing Okposo as a UFA, trading O'Reilly for organizational depth, trading for Skinner, signing Skinner to a ridiculous contract, signing Hall). It is time to be patient with what the Sabres have. No more quick fixes.

I would not trade Mittelstadt in that deal. Virtanen and Gaudette are what they are at this point I think. Mittelstadt has a chance to blossom still in the next year, I think.
Also, just FYI, the average age of the 4 players in and the 4 players out is the same. The Sabres would not actually get younger, on average.
