Lots of young guys
This team has a real chance to be a cup winner if all these players develop. Extending the Krebs deal to three years instead of two might be a good idea, as he'll become an arbitration-eligible RFA after two and three years, potentially allowing you to keep him at a cheaper rate with the extra year.
I also believe that OP will likely demand more money even on a bridge deal because it's common knowledge that the salary cap is set to increase significantly over the next couple of years, thanks to the escrow debt that players owe the owners finally being paid off.
Lastly, as the biggest UPL truther, I think I'm finally ready to move on if he doesn't prove himself this year, especially for two years. I'm love the Mittelstadt deal because I believe he's finally turning a corner.
Being a fan of this team is going to be so much fun soon, maybe even as soon as this year.

Sabres have enough goalies. Even if they were in the market for one a 30 year old Forsberg would not be the one they would go and get. I mean this is all moot because the Sabres are not going to trade JJ for pretty much anything after how he played last season and at worlds.

I will let granato decide how to make up the forward lines, and your guess is as good as any.
Buffalo finally balanced their LHD with RHD as a result the Sabres may try to pair RHD with LHD.
With that in mind, Clifton turned down at least 10 other teams and one with higher AVV and longer term.
He also filled in for McAvoy and played top pairing with Lindholm for the first couple of months of the season.
Reading between the lines, the defense easily could be:
26-Clifton as mentioned above solid defenseman had only 4 fewer hits than Dahlin and Samuelson combined.
25-6 Johnson could be the vet mentor for Dylan
23-10
BTW my guess is they are done for now, maybe at the TDL they will be sellers.</div></div>
Do you mean buyers at the deadline? I think they have a reasonable shot of making the playoffs.

None of the trades are bad but I do not know if Buffalo would do them, GMKA seems pretty happy to roll with what they have. Maybe the trade with the Flyers would happen but I would wait until the Hockey Canada investigation files its report. Would suck to get Hart just to have him get suspended.

I think the lines probably start the years as:
53 - 72 - 89 (Top line remains unchanged now that Tage is not hurt)
77 - 24 - 71/22 (Keep the kids together when they can. I think Cozens' defense can carry Olofsson's lack of defense the best. Olofsson traded as soon as Quinn is back)
19 - 37 - 12/13 (Give Krebs the chance to move up and Mittelstadt the chance to have some weapons on his wings)
28 - 17 - 22 (Solid defensive fourth line. I think they load manage Okposo at times and Rousek slides in here)
23 - 26 (Top 16 defensive pair)
25 - Clifton (OP gets a solid defensive partner)
10/61 - Johnson/46 (Mix this line up when they need to based on matchups. I think Johnson might get some load management like Okposo so Stillman/Boosh will work in)

I really do not think that it does. In this market Karlsson holds all the cards thanks the NMC and teams that can afford to pay a 33 year old defenseman who does not play defense more than 50% are probably not interested in trading for him because he will not fit their window. I think his trade, if he is traded, is going to be kind of underwhelming for sharks fans. It will probably be around the Eichel deal if 40-50% is retained.

EK65 Three Team Trade SEA SJS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>It's not even a remotely close comparison. This package is useless trash for Grier. He might as well not make this trade. It's not worth the retained salary. I say that as a PIT fan. Tuch is a useful player that was worth at least a 3rd round pick. More now. Carter is a liability that should be LTIRetired. He would require a pick to trade. Krebs is 1st round high ceiling player. Poulin is a low ceiling player that has floundered in the AHL. Nylander is a 4th liner/AHLer tweener. Rutta is a serviceable bottom pairing dman. Might be worth a mid round pick.</div></div>
Why is it an unreasonable comparison? I wasn't saying anything about the players that were getting traded but I think everyone is overvaluing Karlsson in the current market. SJ is not going to get a lot for a defenseman who 1) not that good at defense, 2) has an albatross of a contract when the cap is stagnant, 3) is 33 years old, and 4) has a full NMC. Realistically SJ is going to get less than what Buffalo got for Eichel and it will fall around something like:
NHL roster player, A B tier prospect, First round pick -> Karlsson (20-40% retention), Later round pick
or
Combination of prospects and higher round picks -> Karlsson (20-40% retention), Later round pick

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gpmack95</b></div><div>Would Granlund + POJ + 1st + 3rd for Karlsson ($4M retained) + 4th work then?</div></div>
I am going to be honest I am not as well acquainted with Pittsburgh's prospects to know what would be a fair deal but that is probably closer. I also think that SJS might want more picks/prospects instead of an NHL player because they are in a more rebuilding stage than Buffalo was when they traded Eichel. Also I think Grier said he was only willing to retain 20 or 30 percent of Karlsson.

Yeah this is my feeling as well, you're probably looking at less than the Eichel package a few years ago. That package was an NHL roster player (Tuch), NHL ready A prospect (Krebs), protected 1st round pick, and a conditional second for Eichel and a 3rd round pick. Karlsson is older and more expensive than Eichel was so realistically it will probably be a NHL roster player, a prospect, and a first for Karlsson with retention and a pick.

Sabres also probably do not want to do that. Nothing is really interesting for them in this deal. The prospects are kind of worthless to the Sabres because of how many prospects are in the system. They might want Petry but definitely don't want Rust blocking their prospects.

Murray already veto'd a trade to the Sabres so you'd have to convince him to waive it which I do not think he will. Also I think Grier said he would only retain up to 25% of Karlsson.

Even if handedness is not being considered the second part of the next sentence matters more. The reports are the Sabres are looking for a RHD defense first defenseman. We have two really good big, mobile, good with the puck, great in transition RHD. Hanifin would be the third best of these on the Sabres, he wouldn’t get any powerplay time and would not be a good fit on the roster.

Sabres are not trading for Hanifin, full stop. He plays the wrong side and is the wrong style of defenseman. The Sabres are in the market for a right handed stay-at-home defenseman which Hanifin is not either.

The Sabres already do not have enough NHL caliber defensemen, why would they trade one to a division rival for a third round pick that is not likely to turn into a 3rd pairing defenseman? There is no guarantee that they are going to get either of the other guys that you mentioned either. They are really only looking for one guy so why open a roster spot?

No chance the Sabres move Boosh. They don't need the cap space and he was good when he wasn't playing hurt. He is a great 3rd pair D who can play up the lineup in case of injury. Finally, they aren't going to help the leafs get a cheap roster player for a 3rd round pick.

I see your point but an offensive minded LHD is not going to be the add. GMKA and Donny Meatballs seem to have the philosophy of letting the kids play and they really like Krebs, I doubt he is getting moved. Also it looks like the Sabres are going to run the same forwards group minus Olofsso next year.

I don't think Anderson will want a two year deal. He's 33 and this is likely his last time to get paid and he will probably do that. If you can get him for 2 years that would be great but I doubt it.
