<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMcAvoy73</b></div><div>I think there’s a lot wrong this. First up, the notion that Jacobs won’t let any sort of rebuild happen. He’s not a moron. He understands that the way he really makes money is deep playoff runs. The building is going to be full in boston no matter how bad the team is. Is he a jerk? Sure. Is he cheap? Definitely. Does it matter? Absolutely not. He was instrumental in forming the salary cap so it wouldn’t matter. He’s hands off. If Neely tells him they need to rebuild to be competitive, they’re going to rebuild to be competitive. Now, they probably don’t have to do that. They have, in my opinion, the two hardest pieces of the puzzle to find on the roster. 1D all situation D, and goalie.

As for these trades…woof. The common theme with them is that it makes the team worse, both short and long term.

What are you doing trading carlo for a late first? Brutal. Makes the team worse now, of course, and there’s next to no chance that pick is going to have an impact in the next five years.
Debrusk is better than Puljujarvi, though I could see the argument for Puljujarvi’s upside.
Why are you in the market for an over the hill JVR to pick up a couple mid-round picks?

I think you’ve actually found the sweet spot of mediocrity. The team got worse short, and long term, but didn’t replenish any significant assets to put a dent in any retool. Welcome to 9th or 10th place in the east for a few years.</div></div>
I'll give you worse short-term; that's not unintentional. I don't think this makes them worse off long-term, though.

Do you consider any of these pieces traded away are they key to the Bruins future? How much more valuable do you think they are compared to the returns they got? Maybe instead you find a hockey trade somewhere, or maybe it's prospects instead of picks, but I don't think the return's are going to be much greater than this. This team has long been in need of an influx of prospect talent. A casualty of being perennially in the hunt. This was me trying to recoup some of that. Whether or not the FO can hit on these picks is another discussion.

They're not competing for the Cup this season, and have given no indication that they'll rebuild. However, as you did say yourself, they already have the most important pieces already in place. Add in ~$30m in cap space to get a true #1C, lock up Pasta and Sway, and this team (fully healthy) is back "in the hunt" next season. And with picks/prospects to spare. That was the idea anyway.
