No kidding they could remain competitive
I would offer sheet swayman in no time if I needed a goalie. 4.2 million for 2 years only risking a 2nd rounder.

Well Engvall is a giraffe. What do you expect? They're not exactly menacing.

I'm not a Cal Foote hater, but I'm not very high on him either. Sucks to lose him and all those picks because he is probably our biggest piece of value that was in question to get moved, other than prospects or roster players who aren't going anywhere. Can't wait to see how he fits in. Yeah we don't care about picks, but as every year goes by, it's going to get harder and harder to compete at the deadline, which is what this team has done the past 5 years. Bringing in key additions that stick around and make the team much better. McDonagh, Coleman, Gaudreau, Hagel, Paul, Rutta. We'll see how it pans out and what else JBB does from here</div></div>

It's a solid trade for Tampa. As usual most fans view all draft picks are the same. They'll all be future hall of fame superstars. Of those 5 picks JBB gave up you'll be lucky to see 1 make the NHL.
When you have a core like Tampa you can afford to make this trade. Losing 7D Cal Foote isn't exactly a monumental loss. But man how will Tampa ever recover losing that 5th round pick? It's devastating!
Jeannot provides a physical ingredient Tampa lost when the Cap forced them to gut that sledgehammer line they had. Coleman, Goodrow and Gourde. You're not getting Jeannot solely for his goals and points. It's the physical element he brings to augment the skill guys.
That's what Leafs fans don't understand. It's all about goals and assists and points with them. Dirty dangles, sick snipes and fancy stats. Regular season glorification. And they wonder why Toronto never advances past the 1st round. So they'll make fun of Tampa and pretend the Leafs are better.
You see it's okay for the Leafs to trade for ROR. But TB trading for Jeannot is apparently "stupid." Nothing hypocritical there at all! 🤭
Tampa is all about winning Cups. Remember what Stamkos recently said. "We don't care about picks." If Tampa wins the Cup this season, that saying should be put on t-shirts. 🤣
It was quite rich last night when the Jeannot trade happened and Leafs fans were calling Tampa "stupid." Well you'll find out how "stupid" they are when the playoffs start. Good luck with that! 🤭

Only need to be paying attention today to know that they probably wouldn't pursue him. Can't imagine they extend Timmins early just to have him sit on the bench next year.

A Fun Offseason - Including My Personal Kraken Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockyluv21</b></div><div>I think that Hyman can get more in UFA, particularly when there are cap floor clubs like Detroit that are severely lacking in right-handed shots. In that case, Nino would be a great pickup for Toronto.</div></div>
Niederreiter And Hyman are completely different players and Toronto already have enough Niederreiter type players.
This notion of Hyman getting $6M a year on a long term deal is getting a little ridiculous and it's nothing more than Toronto media making a story. So you're telling me that he's almost worth the same as Nylander? Or Pastrnak? Or more than Konency? The reality is he's a hard working guy that was carried by 2 elite linemates. He's 29 and has a history of significant knee injuries that will affect his long term play and his style of play doesn't help that. $6M right now is his ask. Players always start high and teams always start low in talks. It's called negotiating. I'd honestly be shocked if Hyman gets anything more than $5.5M if he went to the open market but I wouldn't be shocked if he signs for around $5M in Toronto with heavy signing bonuses and it's announced right after the expansion draft

I'm now a full time advocate of the colorado model: have 3 blue collar guys making 4 million rather than one guy making 12 million. depth matters bc the stars can go cold/get hurt etc. etc.
eichel would be a different player same problem.
like honestly, is a bottom 6 of galch, soup, the decaying corpse of foligno/simmonds, spezza and engvall a contending bottom 6?? like, idk, it works if the stars produce but we're on year 5 of that not happening</div></div>
I keep getting crap for preferring Nylander over Marner, or Draisaitl over McDavid, $4MM goes a long way in the middle of a lineup.

hes a 24 year old man getting paid 10.93M to play for his childhood team, no excuses but to step up to the plate and he failed to do it. Nylander showed real leadership for half the price. he made way too many braindead plays and didnt make up for it by getting on the board, inexcusable tbh

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ritzy</b></div><div>It's really strange not blaming the losses on bad goals against. Campbell did nothing but good things, happy to have him back next year.</div></div>
(in my opinion) He gave up some bad goals at times, is somewhat shaky with rebound control, and his reaction time isn’t the best (although his positioning is generally excellent). But all in all, he was generally pretty solid, and without question, an absolute bargain at his cap hit.
I would be proud to have him as a Leaf if I was a Leafs fan. He will get better.

New goalie
Do you hate the leafs or ??????????????????
Nylander wouldn't be traded for manson straight up let alone adding in Dermott, let alone taking on Keslers deadspace contract.
We finally got out of all our LTIR contracts and are able to accrue cap space as the season goes on and you want to go and acquire more of it for what seems to be no benefit?
Its not free cap space and the only way we should think about taking backLTIR contracts is if it comes with a sweetener.
