$23M in retention, didn't TO pay a first for $6M a while back. Caps going up, so there is inflation, Ek isn't worth 11.5M at age 32 with injury risk, and maybe SJS are generous to get a deal done but that retention alone still costs a ton.

I think it's impossible to move them, have to ride it out. Hopefully their game comes around with the rest of the team. Grubuer looked decent his last game. Better to focus on D and then F. Be opportunist in G if something viable comes up otherwise get the best goalie prospects you can in the system and move on.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>It's crazy to think Seattle or any team gives up so much in the very very long shot sign and trade. Are you calling a Horvat a 1C? He hasn't been in on the middling Vancouver team.
Gee, Kuzmenko gets more than 3.5m from lots of team. I'm a Holl supporter but no way he gets a four year term and 4.6m. I think he resigns with the Leafs or signs with his native Minnesota replacing Dumba.</div></div>
What is long shot about sign and trade, you don't trade unless Horvat signs a contract you're happy with. That is my assumption.
Kuzmenko might get more elsewhere but will he get the same top6 opportunity on a team he likes and selected in the first place.
Horvat could be a 1C on the Kraken and other teams. I would take him over Pierre Luke Dubois for example.

Vancouver needs to improve their D. I would target a big, reasonably fast D who can defend and move the puck. Holl is probably the best guy they can get. Is he worth 4.6Mx4, no but I'm willing to overpay to get him. Bear is a decent all round defenseman but he's smaller, not fast, has some inconsistency. On a good team Bear is a 6/7 like he was in Carolina. Holl can be top4 on a good team as he is now.

What's wrong with Holl, he's playing top 4d on Toronto and doing well. Big, mobile, decent defender. Canucks have to pay a premium as non-contenders and also have to out bid Toronto.

It’s not their time to go all in.. at least I don’t think so. They still have some holes, but guys like Bjorkstrand, and Beniers are also filling some. They could benefit from having a number one defender, but most importantly, a good starting goalie. That’s what I would try and get if I am Seattle.
Not a fan of the Holl signing too!</div></div>
What do they do with Grubuer and Dreidger? What's wrong with Holl, he's a decent all round top4 d.

They do if Horvat signs for a reasonable contract, say 7mx5. Seattle is balanced but lacks high end skill. 1C are not easy to come by, ask Columbus. Horvat is not elite but he's in the range and an upgrade for Seattle.

Depends on whether another team can get Horvat to sign. A playoff rental is not worth the huge haul Canucks fans want to see. Seattle could raise their offer if it's close.

Don't know enough about Provorov but that's a lot to give up. Broberg is looking better every game right now. Doubt the Oil do something like this.

Oilers need the cap in the above plan. Kulak and Jesse have some value, maybe a bit of an overpay and CBJ sends a lower pick back.
The rumored ask for Chychrun to the oil is 2 1sts and Broberg. I would consider it with a different prospect maybe Holloway or Borgeaux, with Kulak and some retention.

Ducks blockbuster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vols94</b></div><div>Sure buy Verbeek is not stupid and would want more then a cap dump, a bust, a marginal former 1st rounder</div></div>
You are correct, I have reconsidered the retention is a bridge too far, Verbeek wouldn't do it. However you do these players a disservice with these descriptions. Foegele and Jesse are a cap dump and bust but they are not marginal players both are above replacement level and JP still has some chance to be more. But Broberg is significant value and that first is looking more like a mid rounder. Anyway just saying could be a little friendlier is all.
Seems like Holland's real target was Klingberg and maybe that's possible, no long term retention required.

You never know maybe Cam would rather try for a championship than be part of a rebuild. 4 years is a lot but one year is almost gone and the return is pretty big. Especially if Broberg becomes a top pair d, those are hard to come by.

We just saw Oil unable to lock down a win last night against the blue and the coach over playing his stars and them being gassed. Toews is still an excellent center defensively, great at faceoffs, still some offense, great leadership. He fits many of the holes the oil have. If they had him, last night probably ends differently.

This is Boston's second, pretty much a high third. The Oil got a third for Yakupov from St. Louis! JP's scoring has fallen off but his defensive game is strong. If anyone wants to take a flyer, the probability is probably higher than a third and JP is ready to go now.

New York Islanders signed Noah Dobson (3 Years / $4,000,000 AAV)
Not a bad contract but it's inline with the <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/browse/active/2023/caphit/all/defense?stats-season=2022&limits=gp-60-90,toi-18-20">going rate</a> (18-20 min TOI/game) for a second line D and he's only played one season averaging 18min/game. Haven't followed Dobson closely, is he really in line with Sergachev or McAvoy?

Solid team, especially like the backend moves. Seattle is weak on RD and Klinberg would help a lot. Would go longer on Dunn if possible 6 x 7 maybe.

Nice team, what about next year when Weager and Bouch get paid. Trading Foegele isn't covering that. In fact overages for Bouchard and Holloway probably take up most of it. We're going to need those cheap dmen, pass on Chychrun, that's a play when the tank is empty.
