there's gray area here. the canucks want a first and a good prospect for him, and won't be interested in retaining or taking salary back unless they can get that.

Depends on whether another team can get Horvat to sign. A playoff rental is not worth the huge haul Canucks fans want to see. Seattle could raise their offer if it's close.
